all you guys are so used to looking at dsl video stuff which on a live event with no redoing it for the camera possible you need a camera that just works.... these do that.... dslr is not practicable fo rthis type of video.
What's with all you haters? The video quality is AMAZING!!! Look at those 16 vivid colors! I'm gonna download these on my blazing 56Kpbs dial-up and save each video across 10 floppy disks. I wanna be able to play it back for all my friends on my 10 inch CRT monitor. And I hope those sweet beats are available on cassette! I could totally jam to that on my Walkman.
I loved it, because its strangeness , becasue the track it is not defined into any label, and for me to watch the rider's trail skils was refreshing in this kinds of events, like when semenuks skids the rear tire after droping, it with this kind of track my frist though was that Strait has and advantage because his race profile but instead Semenuk shown hiden skills
1.) Make shitty music. 2.) Press "play" at live events, and pretend to turn knobs n shit, while looking suspiciously like a (more) whacked out version of an already cracked-out version of Corey Feldman.
I thought that Semenuk was going to go bigger on that last jump. Also I reckon if Zink lands that last jump he doesn't win a sore pair of balls he wins Chatel Mountain Style.
Only the qualifying runs counted as the finals were cancelled due to bad weather, but the riders didn't know this at that point so they were most probably holding back for finals.
Atleast you weren't really too far away from home to go there. Its only a four hour flight from the UK isn't it? I have to wait till I've saved enough money to buy the plane ticket.
And then spend 12 or so hours on a plane with a stop off for anoying people to get on. Then like every plane trip there will probably be a little kid that has decided that its sole purpose is to piss me off for as long as possible. If I'm lucky the parent will help the kid by giving it some type of encouragement whether or not they say keep going they'll do something. Now that I think about it might be easier to just watch highlights on the internet.
Wow great riding by all three guys. All had nice saves, but Zink being able to hold on through that is intense. I would also like to hear what music the Pinkbike audience would have liked to hear for these minute and a half clips. The music has to be fast and exciting which I think the first two videos achieved. I must say though, the song for Semenuk had a really irritating part in the middle. That one was a bad choice.
What people need to understand is that these songs only work if you thoroughly edit to fit them. You can't just layer music with such fast-paced, strong beats over some riding and expect it to fit.
If I need to get pumped bouldering, Skrillex is one of the artists I listen to; I've been to see him live and it was absolutely awesome. But even I hate seeing his music used in bike edits.
Depends. But you need to decide on a mood - or even theme - for your edit, choose an appropriate song, and edit the clips appropriately. Upbeat, chilled, exciting, epic... But epic is very hard to do right.
Yo Pinkbike, we had a Sony prototype slo-mo camera out on the Mountain Style course, and captured most of the Pro and Amateur final runs in lush HD. Full edit coming soon, but for now, here's a teaser of Nick Simcik's practice run in super slo-mo: http://www.pinkbike.com/video/267036/ and GoPro footage of his gnarly corked backflip crash in the finals: http://www.pinkbike.com/video/267035/
Zink went for glory with that flip at the end... ah well. He would have taken it if he landed clean.
What I'm impressed by is the fact that he's still riding the exact same frame that he used to win Rampage 2 years ago. It must have taken an almighty beating every week for almost a hundred weeks, and it still works! That's the sign of a great design and execution. Good on you Pablo! Now when can I have one?
Actually it's not the exact same frame, it's just the same design... He rode a Corsair then, and now this is Hyper Bikes. Pablo designed both frames though.
I dont know why but the Videos looks like old Footage ! Like Rampage 1 ;-) And the Runs are boring as hell. Its ganrly Stuff and i love Big Mountain Events but the Lines of last Year was much better
A lot less tricks than last year, and total crap cameras not to speak aboutvthe barely tolerable music.... and where did the huge booter on the pro line go? I had huge expectations for this event...
Huge difference between Zink and Semenuk, and i don't mean the landing at the end, i mean the speed, flow and tricks. Semenuk really deserved the win, but weird that there wer no better runs than these of zink and strait
The wind was beyond hard and we never got to test out the hip after the stepdown due to weather. We wanted to but never got the chance due to the weather issues, very little practice, and only getting one contest run
why people from pinkbike are canceling my posts???? I said that didnt liked this contest and they erased it!!!! why? this contest is weak no fun at all, track strange small jumps with big bikes looks no sense. this mix of DH and FR wasn't nice, specially if you see the same guys doing bigger jumps with rigid frames and short travel fork
if you go to the bottom of the comments, you will see a line that says "below threshold comments are hidden" if you click on that text it will change to say "below threshold comments are visible"... it hasn't been deleted, it's been set to hide whatever comments have a certain amount of negative props... same thing happened to me once, i thought my comments had been deleted...
super strange event. kin of non sense, I dont like this kind of event, its not DH, its not FR... i think this track could be shorter with bigger jumps. thos smal jumps with big bikes looks patetic
In the format seen, this event was boring.
I know a lot of work went into it but I agree with mudman - it's a weird mix of DH and super manicured kickers. There weren't enough jumps for the slopestyle types, and definitely not natural terrain for DH types. This looks like a strange no-man's land of TV unfriendly confusion.
totally disagree. love this style of comp. personally i get bored of watching pure jump lines. i think this is a rad mix of the big mountain "rampage" style with the trick kickers (and rampage has been heading in that direction already). far more demanding of the riders, which makes it far more interesting, and that's science. it's like a lot of park runs, just supersized. yes i'll take fries with that.
it's one thing to rule at DH or FR or DJ, but to do well here you gotta be able to ride all of the above... podium goes to the best all-round riders, not someone who only focuses on one type of riding...

edit: horrific song choices btw
Honestly, his backflips scare the crap out of me. I always yell NOOOOO! at the screen.

Thank God for drugs, eh?

Poor Zinks nuts.... Just as well they are made of steel! :-)
Awesome runs, and so Zink's landing
