As far as the jump is concerned I'm right there with you, Mega Ramp the majority of the time is a nice easy slide. This was rough, hope he's feeling better and back on a bike soon.
I've been saying for awhile now that mountain biking is the toughest extreme sport around. with a bar between your legs and rocks/roots/trees around, falling is bound to give you some swellers or blue balls.
not to talk shit on arguably the greatest freerider, but what did he expect? everyone else was hitting the canyon gap with the run-in that was lower on the mountain and they were hitting it perfect - but then he drops in from the top at such a more ballsy speed... it only seems natural that he would over shoot it. still insane and can't believe he's alright. such a tough dude
I think he expected to throw down the gnarliest line and win. It's Cam Zink, if everyone else is hitting the smaller line you can pretty much guarantee he'll take the bigger option. Look at the last rampage, after eating shit trying to drop a three on the sender he came right back to do it again because most people weren't even brave enough to hit that line at all. Cam Zink pushes it harder than just about anyone, shit like this is gonna happen
He had landed it 6 times before apparantly in his interview but was battling with the sun and wanted to hit it one last time, he said that he couldnt really see so was going off the previous braking to get the same speed but obviously didnt find the right amount of braking he knew he needed to slow down!
When I heard him mid-flight yell out: "oh oh oh my god", heart went beating at 170bpm. Just watching that made be get goosebumps. Both Cam's (McCaul and Zink) have balls of steel.
Er, isn't that we have brakes?? Sure the higher run in will have more speed, but he need's a brake check to control the speed. As for 'everyone else', that would be Cam then right??
Yeah especially if the sun was in your eyes.
I didn't like the gap for 2 reasons. It had too much buck to it, should have been a bigger jump so they could still clear it, but a little flatter. Designing a mtb jump that small, with that much kick, at those speeds, is asking for trouble.
I also didn't like that you had to sacrifice so much more of the hill in order to traverse over to hit it. Choosing to hit it sorta turns your run into a one hit wonder, so you would have to do a backflip or something crazy on it score big. Thats probably why McCaul didn't get that great of a score when he hit it, though did get stunt of the day. That's my take, if you disagree make some counterpoints clones, don't just insult me as usual.
...and one more thing...get that dog away from him! At least get that thing on a leash! Better yet, how about no dogs allowed on the hill at Rampage...it's only a matter of time before one causes a serious accident running around looking for a place to sh*t, or from getting excited seeing a bike come down the hill and running in it's path. No Dogs next year, ok?
I love the mutts, but dogs are like 29ers, the worst thing about them are their owners!
I do this all the time, but I usually am doing some no handers and big 360s down this stuff. Then my alarm goes off and I head to class to daydream about it.
Insane!!!..Makes me laugh when I see Ads/commercials for the NFL and NBA-the chest pounding, etc..Fans, players etc..act/think it's so "Hardcore", Bad Ass, etc..It's a joke!!! compared to MTB and other extreme sports..and to add insult to injury, Pro MTBikers make a FRACTION of the money that the overpaid Spoiled Brat NBA/NFL players make..What a world..LOL!
well thats beacause more people are watching NBA/NFL games than mtbing. But im glad this sport is less common. When im snowboarding for example alot of people are jerks, but ive never met a biker whos a jerk.
Can you shoot me a source for that stat? That seems super strange. Especially at the pro level. Not that many pro riders are injured that often. In football at least one per game...
they think it's like a stroll in the park with a cruiser. lol, tell a wide receiver to rip one of these lines, they'll shot their tights. even a NBA center can't do any airtime like on rampage....I felt light headed just watching the helmet cam footages.
Have a 280lbs man running a 12 second 100m, hit you in the chest.
I am not saying rampage isn't gnarly. Just saying nfl is pretty legit when it comes to toughness. I wouldn't ask any player to ride any of these lines. But I would ask sink to stand in the shotgun.
This whole NFL comparison is stupid. I love shredding Sunday mornings and getting home in time for Sundays game. One has nothing to do with the other. Bones break and ligaments tear in both sports. It's the preperation and putting your health on the line for the sport you love that people love to watch. To each his own.
well maybe ive never met a rider who is jerk because in my local town we dont have alot of bikers (which is the reason why i currently have nobody to ride with which sucks bigtime), even though i live very close to the alps.
The worst thing a first responder can do is run to the site of the incident.
Running jacks up your adrenalin and increases the potential of making mistakes.
They are trained to walk calmly and quickly.
That gap is huge enough to be scary on it's own but then add a sketchy drop in and rough run up to the lip. Zink is a bad ass! Both of the Cam's are bad asses for sending it over that gap. I wonder what Zink would have done on it once he jumped it a few times and got comfortable. Any guesses?
Heal up fast buddy and get back on the bike to show everyone what you were planning to do.
I was watching it and when he hit that drop I realized that my fingers are instinktively pushing imaginary brakes to stop that madness!! =D ...and it's just a vid... can't imagine size of balls to actualy do something like that...
i hear ya, I know from reviewing some of my own videos that drops and jumps often look much smaller than they are in POV, that jump looked Feckin huuuuge, so it was in fact Rediculously Fecking huuuuuuuuge as hell
Ooooh.... The crash looked gnarly in the pics but to be on the bike with cam just brings it home how high and fast he was actually going! And the crunch when he hit the ground! Ouch!!
I gotta say though after those cringing moments the guy wright at the end that pics up the camera made me laugh....... What a smug twat lol
All the respect to Cam, he is an awsome rider. I know its a split second decision and that crashing is a skill that all the top guys have boxed but he had lots of travel to same him there. Never bail a flat bottom.
I will await all the comments about how he is a pro and knows better, fair play, it just my humble opinion.
His suspension bucked him hard. If he had stayed on he would have face planted. And obviously the bail worked out for him since he sustained no serious injuries.
you know youv over shot something when you can say ahh ahhh omg 2x before you deck out. nice bail though he looks like he kinda rolled outta it with his forward momentum,i think his forward speed saved him from breaking his legs imho. SO RAW Rampage is lethally awesome
Holy shit, as he was going through this my blood was pumping then we did the crazy ass drops and then the jump and my stomach sank. This is crazy, getting a contour.
Holy shit Zink is fucking bulletproof! I'm bummed he crashed because that line looked so sick and I'm sure he would of thrown down. I'm so glad he didn't get seriously hurt. Hope those ankles feel good soon buddy!
This is where and how progression starts. Remember Cary Hart back flip.Or Zink 3ing that huge drop last year concussed. Someone will be tricking that thing soon. Huge props to Zink.
hahaha cam zink is like me, you can tell when im about to eat shit on headcams cos i allways say ahh bollocks!!! or words to the effect haha
admitadly my crasshes are slightly more favourable....
healin vibes cam!!
You can't find shit for footage except for red bulls website. It's the new internet bullshit. Red bull's keeping it locked down....I know they have stacks on stacks of sweet riding somewhere
Here ya go everyone who can't see it! www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=426948390686283
