While this may not be the most technical trick in the book, this is a great sequence for two reasons: the setup is gnarly and it's a self-portrait. Nice work Erik.

Photo sequence: Erik Holperl

look at the differences between 6 and 7, the large tree on the right, the car that suddenly appears on the RHS, the shadows in front of the wooden stop, the lens glare dropping

Magic.., true Harry potter scene right there.... It wasn't really a lady on a bike with a smaller front wheel it was actually voldermort.. Oh and I don't think all these shoots r from the initial sequence either. But I also believe we did not land on the moon, Bigfoot is real, and aliens live in volcanoes.. Lol,

frame 7 looks shopped, I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.
  • 1 0
It's not! It's taken at a different time! See the back of the car on the right? And the front wheel of the lady's bike in frame 1? It's taken either before of after the trick has been done.

I know, but I wanted so much to say this meme...

Wikipedia: "A toboggan is a simple sled which is a traditional form of transport used by the Innu and Cree of northern Canada."

Pinkbike: "A toboggan is a simple trick which is non-traditional form of gnarly used over buffer stops by the self portraitist bikers of Germany."

In this self-portrait piece of art we can see the contemporary concept of motion where the 3rd dimension (height) is definitely the number one intriguing theme in photography. The scene is in a wonderful and peaceful place somewhere in Germany with the rider swimming in a sea of light excecuting a trick with great confidence .It is certainly a work influenced by the Surrealist Movement trying to resolve the contradictory conditions of dream and reality.
The living background (granny on bicycle ) exists only to represent the rider's own desire for perfection (she appears as a judge with the experience and strictness that only an older person can have) and his fears of other bikers' criticism (that's why the granny is riding a bicycle) and dissapears as soon as the trick ends to say that these thoughts are the imaginary part of every rider's trick.

I think the irony is obvious due to ''self portrait'' mentioned in the description ,but maybe it was too much
  • 1 0
 just....... no
  • 2 1
Look at the size of that front wheel on the old lady's bike... I would be impressed of the lady does the same trick. It requires years of experience and as you can see she has the natural white helmet....

"A toboggan is a simple sled which is a traditional form of transport used by the Innu and Cree of northern Canada. In modern times, it is used on snow to carry one or more people (often children) down a hill or other slope for recreation. Designs vary from simple, traditional models to modern engineered composites. A toboggan differs from most sleds or sleighs in that it has no runners or skis (or only low ones) on the underside. The bottom of a toboggan rides directly on the snow. Some parks include designated toboggan hills where ordinary sleds are not allowed and which may include toboggan runs similar to bobsleigh courses."
