30% improvement in pedaling efficiency is a big stretch. Don't know where trail doctor got his info. To quote the great singer-song writer Todd Snider "64 percent of all the world's statistics are made up right there on the spot. 82.4 percent of people believe 'em whether they're accurate statistics or not"
I do believe you can add up to nearly 30% of extra wattage for example on a steep climb, because you can pull upwards with your rear leg, which not only includes extra power, but also prevents the energy from your front foot being wasted in lifting your body instead of pushing the pedal down. Mainly when already grinding (slow pedal rotaton witth a lot of force) in your smallest gear on the last bit of a sick climb.
But this would mean you can add 30% of wattage into your pedals at some point. Not that it will safe you 30% of energy and you will be able to ride 30% longer. It would rather make you ride less long because of all the extra watts you put into your pedals, instead of getting off your bike and walking up the last part (costs less energy)
Sounds closer Mattin. Efficiency wise what I have read clipping in gives you much less than 30%. Also learning to maximize power part of the pedal stroke will gain much more than focusing on pulling up on the pedals. I can out pedal friends in clips riding flats. I have trained this a lot though. Learning a proper pedal stroke will gain so much more than slapping on a pair of clips and yanking up on your back leg. Just say'n
Flashplayer won't work on my stupid Windows 10 laptop, f*ck you windows 10, f*ck you microsoft
I never knew the UK was so flat? Considering they ventured to Fort Williams, not sure how it is flat at all
