Props Issue 6 - Dave Mirra Interview: We shot this along the Daytona Beach, FL boardwalk during the Play "Contest of Love" weekend in the winter of 1995. Dave was 20 years old and had just gotten over being hit by a car on his bike. He was on the rise to become the icon he is today.

Seeking Nirvana Pt. 1 - Home: This is the mountain village of Whistler, 675m above sea level. Forested with old growth fir and cedar. An important black bear habitat. Criss-crossed by deep valleys making way to endless glaciers. There are few paved roads but instead many miles of intersecting logging roads and dirt trails. It is an El Nino year. We are on the far edge of the Howe Sound, famous for fierce storms, which will make landfall from the west, come December.

I had a skater friend tell me skating is easier than biking. He doesn't know how we do bunny hops and jumps and he insisted kickflips are easier. I cannot for the life of me do anything on a skateboard. Have nothing but respect for the guys pushing street like that. Aaron is a animal.

Seriously, skating is incredibly hard. All those videos you see of guys stomping a rial tricks is just one shot of probably 8 slams they had to take!
  • 1 0
Yeah buddy your friend is crazy lol Skateboarding will always be gnarly. I've been out of the skating scene for a long time, but being good on a board is always worthy of respect.

that last skate video it´s what determination is all about! That guy is a f*cking king!

Your friend is an idiot (nicest way possible). Skating is the hardest sport there is. It baffles the mind.
  • 1 0
I agree with you @scott-towenes but we all got that one friend. its one thing being connected to an object by the hands and feet but standing on a wooden board and hucking stuff on it hurts my head.

I know where your buddy is coming from. I skated from about 13 years old until I was 25 back in the 80's when the sport was super young. I got pretty good for the time. Won some trophies had some minor sponsorship going. Got to a point where I could grind handrails, solid kickflips, big vert skating, etc. Now I'm 45 and a solid rider but I was a way better skater than I am a rider now. I can hit some big drops and tables but not without a good bit of fighting my fears. When I was skating I'd go big with style and confidence. Could have a bunch to do with being young and stupid. Man I miss being young and stupid.

not to be prude, why don't they wear helmets???
  • 2 0
@quinnwd1 I'm not really a skater at all so I can't say first hand. but I'd say it's equal parts a comfort/confidence/"vibe" issue. Good skaters are masters of smashing into pavement while avoiding death. What they do is so hard, its better to just not question them lol.

can we please have the videos of their wedding and the birth of their first child posted when the time comes, thanks.

If she had said No, I'm sure ABC would have recruited him for the next Bachelor filming! Congrats Curtis and Chas!

So weird that the planet is warming and some people don't have enough food. The helicopter was sick though! Seriously, just remember it or have someone sketch it for your next one!

Wow.. Rupert Walker is killing it lately
  • 12 3
I can appreciate the skill involved, it's mind-blowing what he can do, but am I the only one who thinks Ali Boulala comes across as incredibly immature and disrespectful?
  • 5 0
Just wanna say, that was after watching the first video. He came across much better in the Jaws one. Smile
  • 10 0
Think he has matured after a spell in prison
  • 5 0
U gotta remember that Ali Boulala was just a kid when he got sponsored. Went from Sweden to USA without supervision, surrounded by wild dudes and was free to do whatever he wanted. With his personality, some crazy stuff was bound to happened.
  • 1 0
Is it me or does Ali Boulala look like Fred Armisen from portlandia?
  • 2 1
 Boulala is punk!
  • 4 1
@danob watch the Epicly Later'd on Ali. Its amazing, funny, sad, and painful all at once. Even if you don't skate you'll dig it.
  • 1 0
@xprswy Thanks for posting that. I forgot how good the Epicly Later'ds are. Don't judge a book, until you know the whole story.
  • 2 0
I saw the Epicly Later'd on Ali a while back, that was a great piece. Amazing, funny, sad, and painful all at once is a great way to describe it. Seeing him in the Jaw's video made me happy. Happy to see him still around skateboarding in some way, and happy to see him briefly free of the pain of losing his best friend. He really took losing his friend hard on himself, and I worried for him, it was great to see him out and happy.

Ali was wasted on most of the skate shoots he did, he was young wild and out in the usa drinking all the time and living in the moment, he is much more chilled now, pretty sure all the wild shit got to him and then his mate died on the back of his motorbike ali was driving he ended up in a coma i think and come out of it totally beside himself,i seem to remember he suffered some mental illness.
  • 2 0
Yeah, watch Epicly Later'd. It's actually quite a sad story. Dude had immense talent and creativity but had no control over himself. Ended up killing his best friend and almost killing himself while drunk on a motorcycle. Ended up going to jail. He's all rehab'd up but he can't even do an Ollie any more.
  • 2 1
where can I find that laterd shit then?used to be mad on skating in the 80s then dabbled again mid 90s but mx took over ,skating always has had its f*ck ups ,f*ck cant remember his name ,half Asian fella who did massive vert airs was on meth and f*ck knows what else ,he was more like a rock star than a skateboarder cant remember his f*cking name ,probably due to my own vices haha.
  • 3 3
@unleash to find Epicly Later'd, there's these two websites that are incredibly useful when looking for a video that you have the title of, YouTube and Google. Ever heard of them? And I believe the skater you are talking about is Christian Hosoi. Lay off the "vices" man. Damn.
  • 5 1
@csermonet there are these three words that are quite useful when it comes to describing presumptuous upstarts ,ever heard of them?
Look up pretentious sanctimonious prick ,hope that helps ,have a nice day.

Skateboarding has a way steeper learning curve than Biking in general.
  • 3 0
Agreed, spent about 2 years on a board in my early teens, never learnt to ollie , and not through lack of trying, riding a bike is like well... riding a bike, most of us can do that !
  • 1 0
Yes, very steep. I did a lot of skating as a youth so I know what it takes. Probably along the same lines as trials riding. The cool thing about skating is you just need a cheap board and a curb to entertain yourself for hours and learn. Where with a bike to really get good you need access to an overpriced bike and the proper terrain/jumps/etc.

That "Bike Comes to Life" video was weirdly sublime.
  • 1 0
 Very strange indeed
  • 1 0
I liked it, but from the first few seconds all I could think was "Waaaaay too much grease on the headset and BB"
  • 2 0
I think it was done for effect. However, never too much. The excess can always be cleared/cleaned away once installed. Especially with a press fit BB. A huge step backwards in technology in my humble opinion.

Curtis Keene and Chas congrats to You ! Awesome proposal!

 Proposals? Barf
  • 6 0

I can't be the only one that gets those f**king auto-start ads simultaneously start on every video that's using pinkbikes player (10 ads running at once in this post) which is then too much for my computer therefore causing an error leaving me unable to watch them. I'm no computer rocket surgeon - advice anyone?
  • 4 0
 Use an Ad-Blocker Wink
  • 1 0
Sounds way too obvious to work hahaha!.....but I'll try it. Cheers.

Rocksop in an interview a few years ago said skating is harder. Use to do it as a kid, I'd say it's alot harder.
  • 2 0
First video is mostly Red Deer, the dirt jumps and the skatepark!
  • 1 0
Mike Varga rides like a kid mashing the buttons on Dave Mirra Fresstyle BMX.
