BC Cup DH Race Schedule Announced

Feb 8, 2012 at 22:10
by Stephen Exley
In less than 90 days the 2012 BC Cups race season will start in Kamloops BC at Race the Ranch. Those that have been training this winter on and off their bike will definitely have the advantage and post the fastest times. To help you plan your summer I have laid out the BC Cup summer race schedule below.

Race the Ranch ~ April 29TH
2012 Race schedule

As always the BC Cup DH Season will kick off in Kamloops at Race the Ranch in late April

2012 Race schedule

Registration will open in March on CCNBIKES.com

Not only is Race the Ranch the first BC Cup of the season, it’s also one of the best attended races of the year – maybe it’s because everyone wants one of those coveted belt buckles and boot mugs! Do you have yours yet?
The variety of riders here is astounding…As you roll into registration some riders are dusting the cob webs that their bikes collected through the long and dreary winter, while others are stoked to put all their hard winter training to the test. The course is jam packed with fast open corners and a few small rock gardens. But don’t be deceived my friends…these wide open corners are dusty and dirty and carrying speed through those rock gardens will mean the difference between a boot mug and a “nice effort.” Registration opens in March…see you April 28th and 29th, 2012…if you dare!

Bear Mountain Challenge ~ July 1ST
2012 Race schedule

Registration will open in March at WWW.CCNBIKES.COM

Collectively known as the Bear Mountain challenge, but individually known as the Bear Mountain DH challenge and the Red Mountain XC challenge, these two races are held on the same weekend each year, making for a great event for riders. As of 2012, the DH race has been run for 16 consecutive years, making it one of the longest running races in BC.

The Bear DH course is a smooth, fast-flowing course and has always been a popular spot for local riders to practice their race techniques, or just go for a good rip. The course includes some great rock gardens, tight banked corners, a pair of double gappers, and some great high speed sections. Photo ops are many and access for spectators is easy. Ad in an on-course announcer, efficient shuttle system, great food, loads of swag for racers and spectators, and a pond for tossing in whoever needs to be tossed, and the weekend will be a blast. The Bear Mountain Challenge, like the name suggests, is just the right mix of fun and challenge, combined with a great atmosphere for the perfect race day.

The XC course on Red Mountain is magnificent! Lush single track through a pristine rain forest on some of the freshest trails around, this course promises to challenge the endurance and the technical skills of every competitor. The course varies from year to year, but always includes some of the most technical XC riding in BC. Big climbs and technical single-track descents make this race a good challenge. Red is maintained by a very dedicated builder and will be seeing a special polish leading up to the race, making for a good, tight course. Both courses share a common staging area at Mill pond in Mission, BC, which is about an hour from Vancouver in the Fraser Valley. Access to hotels, restaurants, and all amenities are just 10 minutes away.

Surrounded by towering peaks of two other mountain ranges – the Rockies and Selkirks – it is also close to six of Canada’s most spectacular National Parks: Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, Yoho, Glacier, and Mt. Revelstoke. The resort is just 1.5 hours west of Banff (145 kilometers) and 2.5 hours west of Calgary (270 Kilometers) on the Trans-Canada highway.

Mt. Washington ~ August 26TH
2012 Race schedule

MT Washington BC Cup and 2012 Provincial Championships

Last year we saw a low snow line that forced the Mount Washington organizers to make some last minute decisions to change up the infamous Monster Mile into something equally as fun! The course got started with an explosive pedal out of the gate to get some momentum into the flats to carry you into the berms. From there you dropped into some roots, some chutes, and of course some gnarly rock gardens. If you escaped the rock garden unscathed you were thrown into a mini 4X track with a few step-downs, some more berms and a few step-ups before crossing the finish line. This course has so many different lines to choose from some faster than others, others more fun…which line are you taking? See you August 25th & 26th, 2012.

Athlete Coach Cory

Coach Cory Leclerc of C4 Rider Training

The C4 Learn to Race (LTR) Programs will be running at select BC Cup DH Events in 2012. The C4 LTR program will be open to 10 riders per BC Cup. The C4 LTR Program will only be available to racers that are pre-registered and competing in the corresponding BC Cup event. Athletes’ parents/guardians are encouraged to attend the Friday information session. Racing regardless of the discipline is often a family experience and a successful race weekend generally starts at home. Part of the focus of the C4 LTR Program is to educate not only the racer, but the support team of the athletes. Basic bike prep, as well as nutritional advice will accompany the take home handouts. After 25+ years of racing the crew at C4 has learned a few tricks that we will share with the P.I.T. Crew (Parents- In- Training). The goal of the C4 LTR Program is to work with 1st time racers, and/or assist newer racers in being more effective on race weekends. Over the years the crew at C4 Rider Training has determined that riders that have a plan succeed. Keeping riders coming back year after year is largely dependent on the amount of success achieved on a race weekend. Smart racers show up prepared, and leave with bikes and bodies intact. This makes parents happy. At C4 a happy parent means another race weekend. Programs will be run in conjunction with existing BC Cup event schedules. Racers will be expected to show up on the Friday morning prior to the BC Cup event for a day of skills updates and race weekend planning. LTR athletes will be assisted and supervised throughout the race weekend in all scheduled practices, as well as the C4 Team course walk. Riders will be expected to check in with Cory Leclerc between race day practice as well as post-race. On race day racers will be expected to check in at the C4 Team pits 30 minutes prior to scheduled practice.

The C4 LTR Program includes:

- Pre-race skills and planning clinic
- P.I.T. Pack (special set of handouts to assist parents/guardians before the weekend)
- C4 Team track walk (Friday evening, or Saturday Morning [event specific]).
- On course Saturday training with C4 Head Coach Cory Leclerc, featuring the C4/Norco Team Athletes
- Supervised Sunday training with C4 Head Coach, Cory Leclerc
- Race Day post-training/pre-race pep talk with individualized advice.
- Race follow up, this is a group activity that happens after the race and before awards.

The cost for the C4 Learn to Race BC Cup program is $150+HST and will be on CCNBIKES.com in March

 Hey Guys,
Could you do me a huge favour and answer the five questions from the attached link? It is about a guided mountainbike tour to British Columbia in Canada! It is mainly a guided tour in British Columbia (riding single trails, visiting bikeparks, enjoying vancouver etc.) for europeen clients to Canada (Vancouver). We want to offer those trips due to the amazing shape and landscape of BC as can be seen in the above posted article Smile

Too few racers and it’s a very expensive event to organize and run. 5 of 7 events this summer are lift access.
