Silver Star Resort is really looking forward to bringing back the snow DH race to the resort to promote the upcoming BC Cup Premier DH series in 2014 as well as focus the attention on the summer season product at the resort. “We are extremely proud of what we have built here at Silver Star and just because the bike trails are buried in snow doesn't mean we are going to keep that enthusiasm hidden” commented Silver Star General Manager Michael Sherwood.

This two day snow DH event is the first of its kind to be run exactly like a summer DH race and to be sanctioned by Cycling BC. Riders will be given lift access to get to the top of the race course after safely loading their bike onto the Cat trailer.. Once at the top of the race course racers will be descending down the taped track which will include jumps, berms and drops on the ski run “Milky Way” back to the finish line and the mass of spectators in mountain village.

Last March racers dialed in their race runs with some blistering times, shaving over 3 minutes off their Saturday runs due to the overnight deep freeze. The fastest time went to Yann Gauvin from Quebec, with a ridiculous 51.37 seconds! Yann took home first place in the Elite Men's category with style sporting his attractive Mullet on the podium and winning $250 cash & a new Leatt neck brace from Dunbar Cycles. Honorable mention goes to Lee Jackson from Squamish, winner of the Jr Expert Men who threw down a 55.54 second race run.

ontario and quebec have the hard pack slopes compared to b.c. to have the snow races, maybe someone over here will get off there asses and do something this sick, would love to go but its a long trip for something that could be snowed out.

 why don't you?

i tried, the skihill here is not into people biking in the summer on it let alone the winter, too bad going down a packed skihill is amazing fun, as well i live in a place without many bikers to support something like this and again if it snows hard its a waste for the people from toronto or ottawa's direction

that sounds like a downer of a situation all in all. just keep it up and spread the word and i'm sure it'll happen eventually!

I'm sure we could arrange an event like this. 2 seasons ago sir Sam's was hosting a event but bad wet weather caused it to be cancelled.

I want to do this soooo bad... Going to start work in Vancouver Feb 1, but have to be out on an island working for raceprep end of this race! Bummer. Anyone have any recommendations for other races that are fun to do and wouldn't be too insanely far from Northern Vancouver? Or "must-sees" in terms of location/track?!

Allison, you can get a Cycling BC UCI race license and collect BC Cup points and race at any UCI sanctioned event anywhere in the world. Go here to buy one when ready for 2014: ccnbikes.com/membership/Cycling-BC PM me if you have any specific questions. A Cycling BC race license will allow you to race at NW Cup, BC Cups and Alberta Cups without any issues.

Race the Ranch is June 1st. this year, right after Unicorn...
  • 1 0
Typo? Race the ranch on April the 27th not June 1st or is there another kamloops race that isn't sun peaks and the ranch?
  • 1 0
RtR is on June 1st - not April 27th.
  • 1 0
Is sun peaks part of the b.c cup series again? cause that race kicks ass!
  • 1 0

I might actually do this. First DH race in about 4-5 years
  • 1 0
its fun. i did it last year. (im the wipe out in the video at .59.. yellow bike).. there isn't really anything terrible about the course except the lack of stopping power. the course last year was just steep, into a berm, a little steeper, into a berm. the trick is to figure out how not to lose you back end and start fish tailing. i totally recommend the race for your bucket list.

oh.. i just realised we will be in the same division.

also... i was interested in the june race at the ranch. you ever rode the course?
  • 1 0
I hate ridin a bike on snow especially when it isnt packed
Boards are fit for it
You have all my respect guys and i still ask myself "how do they do?"
  • 2 0
already signed up for this and I'm so stoked!!
  • 2 0
Hey Stephen are you gunna be hosting race the ranch this year?

Thought this was going to be a ski-bike race...I was sorely disappointed. I miss the days when DH bikes had 24" rear wheels.
