Wos Up Kyle. Congrats on the win. I was shopping the other day for food and amongst other things bought some Rice Crispies. I got up the other morning, had a bowl and could hear the snap and crackle but definitely no pop. Id like your opinion on whether I should return them for a refund. I enjoyed them an all, but if a product boasts something on the packaging shouldnt the product hold up to that boast. Let me know, thanks
Every thing else I bought was OK.
I definitely got some pop in mine. Maybe its the kind of milk you are using. Here in the US the milk is heavily processed. Perhaps you need some growth hormone rBST in your milk?
I do believe your pop was probably stolen by SirLyle himself. It's the wheaties of all FMB riders. Unfortunately pop gets carried away and morphs into snap and crackle.
I was curious about this too. First run was huge and clean but it seems like you had a few places where you had tricks planned. I really wish those second runs went down. I wanted to see McCaul's second run. Same with Zink. Would have been sweet to see him murder the whole mountain and not worry about that flip.
I was planning on doing a fast more stylish run at the top.. maybe tripiling down on one of my drops mid way then adding in a table on my hip by the boner long, then a super seater on the last hit.
Would have been rad to have everyone's 2nd runs but it was just not in that cards. No matter what all the riders rode amazing and couldnt be more stoked.
Looking at some crashes and how big jumps on rampage are getting do you think this event is getting a little out of hand ? I mean we all do enjoy watching you guys hitting all those sick drops and doing crazy tricks but this year i was honestly concern that Zink might die in case he fail this sick backflip.
Dear Mr Strait, Do you believe in cause and effect? For example, when you busted that no-hander off the sender I accidently shouted "No F*cking way!". It's possible (but not confirmed) that my 7yr old daughter may have heard (although she was in bed at the time). It's not beyond reason that she may take that sort of language into school, ruin her education and ultimately hinder her job oppertunities. As you were the one who has potentially caused this ripple effect, how does that make you feel? PS Zink and Kelly also caused further outbursts, so it's possibly not all your fault.
No questions, Kyle. Just wanted to say you have a lot of fans here in Monterey, CA. Your win at Sea Otter has the locals cheering for you every time. Had the wind not been blowing and you got that 2nd run, we all know you'd thrown down something sick or gone out trying. Good on you, too setting a good standard for the groms by supporting Zink and the other rampage guys. See you in Monterey in '14!!
My question is, what should I do; I've got a GF, but lately I think she is cheating on me. She doesn't answer my calls, she is goin out only with people I don't know. She often comes home late at night, with I taxi, but even though I can hear a car engine, I never actually see the cab and she alway walks the last meters on foot. A few days ago I picked up her phone to look at the time , but she got very upset, saying that I interfered in her privacy , so I decided to finally get to the bottom of this thing. Last night she went out again and I decided that I will hide and wait somewhere, to find out who will bring her home at night. So, when I was hiding behind my car for some time, I noticed that there is rust on my rear fender. Now I wonder how to remove it, so it won't spread somewhere else? Should I use silicone or change the fender? Thank you for your reply!
Its a double wide.. But, you have to be over 5'5'' to ride it. Was going to invite you over but figured you wouldnt be able to get up to the pad. maybe ill hide you in in a box
First congrats! My question: where you and the others riders involved in the decision of not doing a second run at rampage ? How do you feel about it, are you disappointed not having able to do a second run (maybe even more amazing) ?
Probably not, the World Cup level is way up these days. Stevie would be so bummed if I went out and smoked him too, I'll save our friendship.
I think there is a time and a place for all wheel sizes.
I had my helmet on for almost the whole time at the top waiting.. There were three occasions when I was 10 seconds from drop in while waiting for tv crew and helicopter.. then the wind came back up.
I have a question ! at your winning run you had a gopro camera on your helmet ! was it fimling ? : 1) If it was filming where can i find that video ? 2) If it wasn`t filming why the f*ck did you not filmed the most epic moment of your life ?
I hope so ! because if you remember the 2012 gopro videos ... they were amazing ! i really wanna see this badass going downhill at rampage ! but if you look closer, my question is the only one that doesn`t have any answer from Kyle.... Mabye he doesn`t want to answer .... anyway if you know eny gopro video from rampage you can reply here because i couldn`t find eny of them (sorry for my bad english, i`m not a native speaker)
Kyle congrats on winning the Rampage your run was impressive, but people have commented that Magarry's flip was the winning run.. I think there's too much of an emphasis on tricks in Ramapge, not on technicality of line or difficulty of terrain ridden. How do you feel about tricks vs tech terrain?
I think that it is great to have the tricks if your missing gaps in your line. But for the most part Rampage is about all around riding and everything should be considered.
Yo Kyle, I was there at the bottom of the Sender when you were practising with Zink and in Comp. I have to say it was awesome sportsmanship when you were on the radio with Zink after you guineaed it the first time and in Comp! Major Props bro. Saw your dad there also how sweet was that for you?
I just wanna say the trick I enjoy watching the most are your tabletops. Most elegant movement in a bike ever man; never getting tired of watching them at your nwd 7 videopart!
I think the FMB is good for up and coming riders to be able to get in to the spotlight. It helps with organization, but heres my beef. FMB does absolutely f*ck all for me. I've never signed up, never been part of it, I've kept my eye on it to see if it would help me, but I don't see the point. The events I want to go to, I go to, I don't need to be involved with the FMB though. It is good to have a freeride champ, but it's a waste of time. Guys finishing 7th or 8th in the world aren't even winning back their registration fees. Where's the money going?
I'm with JoCr, no disrespect to Pilgrim, but Crankworx and the Rampage are far more prestigious than the FMB overall title. I would like to see a few more big mountain events so that to win the overall you have to be the most well rounded rider.
How did winning rampage for the second time compare to when you won it the first time? Did the wind put a dampener on it or was it just as good a feeling?
Way to kill it, I'm a wrench sporting GT here in Southern Oregon, I had to let my Distortion go to a kid getting into it to keep the IRS happy, but I need a big bike again, my co-wrench has a Fury 2.0 from 2013 but it's a small and I'm 6'3", I talked to my rep about getting a World Cup '14 on demo, does it feel like a sex machine for freeride? OH yeah, props on making history with a double win, my bench is plastered with wingman pics, always looked up to you man!
do you set up your suspension with stiffer spring rates, faster or slower rebound, than you would for your normal freeriding to accommodate those massive landings you stick @ redbull?
I up my spring rate 100lbs and slow down the high speed rebound. Rock Shox puts a special tune on the suspension that we have been developing for years.
Dude you won rampage, a huge accomplishment, duely noted that you won your first rampage at what, age 17? Or something crazy like that. This question is for yourself and maybe talking on the behalf of others, a few people didn't get a second run. The results would have been changed 100% on and off podium, how did everyone react, and In likeliness to fairness do you think there should have been a second day of riding for the 2nd runs?
It's part of the event, it's fair and unfair all at the same time. Everyone was aware the wind was a factor, but for it to all be fair then everyone should have been able to take a second run. I would like to have taken a second run, but we can't control the weather and the same rules apply to everyone therefore it was fair as well.
Was there any consideration at all in continuing the 2nd runs the following morning if the weather permitted? What would your thoughts have been if they would have offered that as an option, to continue first thing Monday morning, just the riders and Judges to save on overhead costs with the filming crews?
First runs went really well so there was no way that they were going to roll over to monday morning.
I would have liked to get out for my 2nd run no matter what.
Alot of riders said leading up to the comp that the current Rampage site is getting a bit stale. What other places do you think might make for a good Rampage venue?
I think with the the big stuff you saw at the location this year it opened up some doors for extending the life of the comp at that location a couple more years.
I'd work on fixing the event itself before moving it. Gotta suck for the guys that got shorted runs... even if the podiumed. LOL!
Maybe another location wouldn't be quite so windy and those people would've gotten their second runs...as I recall, this is the first time that wind has been an issue in virgin UT
The site now has been run though so hard. I crossed four lines jus in my run. With out building more wood features it will be really hard. I have been walking around that area for over 6 years now. I do not see many more lines that dont run into an uphill for straight into a dead end. To make a podium run at rampage you cant have any of that.
I can see that. Eventually it will be more of the same and will just be about who pushes it the hardest and it's gonna be hard to top that back flip.
I wouldn't be mind seeing it move around. I can see from year to year where people are running this run or that run and it becomes more and more about the wood stuff and I don't think that was ever really the point of the event.
Anyway it goes... figure out how to get everyone their runs.
All I know... props to everyone and best of luck in recovery. Couple big time injuries to come back. You 2 with busted femurs... .just look at what Chad Kagy did coming back from his. You'll be back.
since you are the Rampage MAN what future riding plans do you still want to accomplish?
Also, i just moved from utah to huntington beach. can you tell me or message me fun ( all mountain, free ride, DH) places to ride since i know you a California dude.
Kyle, I was screaming at my tv when you and Zink hit the sender, you guys are f*cking animals. Do you have any filming ideas in the works? Like anything you want to bring out in 2014, as far as new areas or cool projects? And also, dude you are so gnarly on DS, it's kinda scary.
Yes I have been working on a affordable web based full movie this summer that should be out at the end of the year. It called Duck Tape Stuffs.
Hahaha thank you!! I love those bikes.
How do all you guys (rampage competitors) deal with watching peers (and friends) go down so brutally? Is there a mental aspect there that takes some major work to deal with and rise above.
Do u ever look bak at the video of your self and think f**k that was a good run? Also what does it feel like to be the 1st person to nail rampage twice!!
Thats what should never come to your mind. If you do not feel good about it dont do it. I have pulled out of a lot of things that I didnt feel good about
Hiya Kyle You had a great flow to your run,you made it look like it was a Downhill race.I couldnt help notice that there were bigger mountains around in the background, why wasnt they used?or could be used? Also i ride the Previous Carbon Fury, great bike they made there, have they mentioned to you about a possible Carbon version of the new one? Thanks
1. Do you think they should extend Rampage to more days so you're not forced to run in late afternoon desert winds or risk not getting all of your runs?
2. How do you think things would have gone down had everyone gotten all their runs in?
That was kind of my feeling when I looked at the list this year. Too many riders or too short of a comp. Would have loved to see what guys would have done with more runs. Then seeing the outcome it pretty much confirmed it.
Some guys are out there for a couple weeks anyways. Another day seems reasonable to make sure everyone gets their runs in without being forced to risk afternoon wind. Anyone that's ever been to the desert before knows that you're pretty much guaranteed wind in the afternoon. Usually starts around 2 and ends around 6 with around 4 being often pretty brutal.
That's my vote... fix this event before trying to take it to other countries.
Pretty damned impressive year though. You guys blow me away. Never in a million years did I see things going this way 10-15 years ago. Amazing. Look at Tyler's run. 5th place. That dude went freaking beast mode and stuck that huge drop as clean as I've ever seen anyone stick one that large.
So props man. Stay safe and congrats on the win. Looking forward to next year.
I always had a high respect for what Bender brought to mountain biking, and after riding DH with him, saw he was not just a "hucker" as many people had him labelled
how you guys handle the fear? i mean when you're afraid of a huge drop you never did before or something like that? how you handle the pressure? you have a special training how to react when you fall? greets from germany
You don't let it get ahold of you, you get all the fear out at practice. Take a deep breath and handle that shit! The special training i've had to react to falling is simply eating a lot of shit throughout the years.
haha year the accidents through the years makes the bones harder i guess :-) always stunning to see how you guys fall from 10 meters in the flat and stand up like nothing happens, i fall from 1 meter and broke two rips.... thx for the answer dude, amazing run at rampage!
Hey Kyle! I remember watching you ride since the early NWD movies! Always loved your everlasting (shit-eating) grin and super flowie style! Is there a trick to that? A mantra, pure honesty, or just the fact that you bike for a living that you wake up with a smile on your face every morning? Attitude is huge for any industry - clue us in since yours is the best!
Congrats Kyle! I've always been a fan of your style and ability to crush multiple disciplines. Whats your favorite beer? If you were going to do a different sport, what would it be?
"I don't know, you tell me. We need to have the strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner, and the concentration of a brain surgeon. But we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us, oh yeah did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick? Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."
You gentlemen need to be introduced to the sport of hurling. It's like hockey (well not really but those who like hockey tend to be amazed and intrigued by it) but more exciting and faster. I like hockey but the world needs to see hurling.
It seems that every year Rampage's winner is decided by a feature and not the overall line, do you think that it would be wise to have have two classes in the future. One that is a natural line class and another class that includes features? I thought TMAC had the raddest line of all this year, but I feel that since he didn't hit the big drop he wasn't rewarded as he should have been. Congrats on the W!!!!!!!
Kyle, nice work. do you think the event should be held first thing in the morning? reasons being that the winds are usually low before the sun heats things up, ground sometimes has a bit of overnight condensation to keep the soil more stable, and if weather plays a hand at least there's more available day left to finish if things go sideways? aside from airing live during a more 'primetime' slot in the day, i can't think of any good reason why the event shouldn't be run first thing. just a thought ... your thoughts?
Mr Kyle, congrats first of all! I just wanna know what were your exact thoughts the moment your tire left that massive icon sender? To launch off it is one thing, to take your hands off the bars mid flight is another. How in the world can you remain so calm sending it on that massive launch? Congrats again man!
Hi Kyle!
Just came here to say congrats! I got hooked up on mountain biking after watching the vids with you and I was immensely glad to see you win the Rampage again. Keep up the good work and good luck!
Whenever I'm hitting something faster or bigger than I've done before, on a bike or skis, honestly struggle to get crashing out of my head.. especially at the lip. Most of the time the words F**k it come to mind... Do you remember what you were thinking at the edge of the sender during practice?
hi kyle you were at rampage when there was no slope stlye tricks just pick the biggest lines. do you miss those days.and do you think big mountain and freeride are goneforever now. i am from oldschool just fine the biggest huck and go for it. and i send my congrats to you becoming the only to time redbull rampage champ
"Blackout mode, I hope I'm going fast enough, I hope I'm not going too fast. Lets live."
In regards to calculating your speed on a drop such as the Oakley Sender, why don't riders have a way of knowing there ground speed precisely so that they can factor that in to their decision on faster or slower? Like a speedometer. Rather than 100% feel?
I was going to ask this. How is it possible to judge your speed for such a big distance without any way to be sure. I guess it comes down to experience, but still, I always think mostly you guys just clear the lip by a meter or so, even when the landing is so long.
In situations like stunt shows for example, they calculate the exact speed required to make the distance.
I'm having fun runnign through these comments. LOL.
Yeah there were a few articles where Zink was talking about it. Everyone knew it was coming... or new it was suppose to.
when you are preparing for such a physically enduring event like rampage, is there anything specific you do physically? i.e. go to the gym or is it just a case of getting as much time on the bike as possible?
You are certainly a bigger guy on a bike and coupled with those big hits, how does your bike and components handle it? Any particular parts/brands that stand out as better suited for a big hitter?
I have 100% confidence in all my sponsors, GT, Sram, Rockshox, Avid, Truvativ, Novatec, Kenda, HT, SDG, they all set me up with the strongest, lightest, most progressive components in the world. The big boy needs the best.
Obviously you are a well rounded and accomplished rider with victories at Rampage, Sea Otter and other venues over the last several years. Are there any other disciplines that you will challenge yourself with in the future. Possibly enduro or Super D?
I remember you doing those crazy multiple tail whips in NWDs and now you're winning dual slaloms and Rampage for a second time! How are you such a bawss across multiple styles?
your career has been one of the more interesting ones to follow, from racing to slopestyle to big mountain riding, clearly riding all of these styles has benefitted you, which one would you say has benefitted you career wise? and which has benefitted you the most bike control wise? thanks Kyle, congrats on the win
When rampage went on a hiatus after 2004, were you ever concerned about where the sport was heading? Did you think that it would have to come back, or was that just an end of an era?
Hey Kyle congrats on the win dude, as you will probably know lots remember last years comp for the saying "norbs got robbed" and this year iv heard a few say "kelly got robbed" theres always gonna be differences of opinion, some say zinks flip shoulds won others say kellys and other say your whole run was better but what do you think regards to it? Did Norbs get robbed last year? and do you think the results were right this year? (after seeing cam and kelly come down did you still see your self sitting 1st?) And finally if you wanna ad to it - what can the judges do to make it more even??? well done again mate
It's one of the things I've had issue with in recent years. Like more weight went to certain tricks because they look cooler even if they're not more difficult and guys get credit for them even when they're done sloppy and landed sloppy.
They always say... it's style, speed, tech and tricks but I felt last year that way more weight got put on tricks alone. Cam McCaul is the case for that last year. The dude hit it hard, smooth, technical, huge, creative (hit something no one else did) but he didn't do any fancy back flips so he got dropped way low. Essentially... his run was your run this year. You went big, smooth, creative, fast, etc... but you really didn't have a run loaded with tricks... but the other stuff was so high quality that overall you won.
But in other cases it didn't work out for other guys. This year... Tyler McCaul. That dude went freaking off and dropped a HUGE drop as cleanly as I've ever seen. I felt like if you were first... tyler should have probably been 3rd no lower than 4th.
Zink went huge and nuts but did one trick. Kelly... I think he finished right where he should have.
I had it... You. Kelly. McCaul. Zink. Lacondeguy. McCaul. Ferry
But I'm no judge... just seemed inconsistent and I can completely understand why there was no way in hell Zink was not going to podium. That was the most insane thing I've ever seen... and he made it down without falling.... slowly... but he didn't fall. LOL!
But like I said... reward 1 guy for killing the whole mountain and not another...
But honestly... I just wish everyone got all their runs in. I think we would have seen even more insanity and the standings would probably have been different.
But I'm from Santa Cruz... so you know where my bias is. LOL!
Way to kill it and show all mountain skills. I'm glad you were rewarded for it.
Thank you that was the honest reply i wanted dude. No one can really argue with that and i think your right in the sense that it is a big mountain event.
We should have more big mountain events that focus on big mountain and not tricks - until its separate there's always gonna be arguments about who won
Once again well done dude
I once heard you rode with travis pastrana when young, is that true, do you even know him? you are both awesome, congrats for that win ! you totally deserved that, both times!
Yes I rode at his house back in the day. .I think I was 15 and he payed me money to to a tailwhip. it was one of the first ones he'd seen so he had to have me do it.
the tranny under the Oakley sender looked long and narrow and definitely a bit sketchy. Looked like you really had to nail that sucker square and ride it out clean. Was it too narrow, do you think? Logan's crash was pretty hectic... Although from a different takeoff.
Hey man congratulations on the win at rampage, it was sick and I don't even want to imagine how your second run would have been! Here's my question: on Sunday after rampage I was reading the July 2013 issue of bike magazine, which is strategically in my bathroom as reading material during dumps, and you were on the cover and it said "kyle strait, is he the worlds greatest mountain biker?" How does that feel after rampage? Do you think you made the article justice?
Any advice about hitting a big jump or steep drop for the first time? I seem to have a hard time when my nerves get the better of me...Is there some mind tricks that you could suggest to help me stay confident? Thanks
Hey Kyle big congrats all the way from Ecuador, so much flow and style in your run! Since you're the meanest looking mofo in the bike scene, I was wondering if you have ever trained some MMA or BJJ? You'd probably kick some ass! Cheers
I haven't done any training like that but would like to someday. I know that sh*t is bad ass. Zink has alway tried to get me to do it. Maybe this winter
Nice! You should definitely try it, I've been training for some years now, have actually stopped a bit because of biking!
It's also a long term process to get really good at it, but its amazing physical training as well as psychological. keeps you vented.
Again props on the run, I hope I can get that master steez on the bike some the day!
What kind of a career would you want post-professional biking?
P.S. Awesome seeing your run in person, so inspired!! My boyfriend and I left rampage early during all the wind pause stuff to go ride some more before leaving Utah. We were so pumped just to go ride after seeing you all blow our minds every run! I hope the event stays on the west coast.
Bike Mag's July 2013 issue had a story on your coming up in the bike industry. Zink coined the term COS for you because of your dad's involvement in your career in the early years, does your dad still carry weight in your career now? Congrats on Rampage win #2!
My dad has made me to what I am now... He is a giant supporter of me and always be there for me. He has been at both rampages that I have won..
Thank you!
Congrats on the win! Just a question, any advice to give a rider who's just getting back from injury? I broke my tailbone a couple weeks ago and it's been rough No riding. I fear that I won't get any more riding in this year, and by next season I will be REAL out of the loop.
At which point in your life did you realise you were bonkers? at which point did you figure out you were so insane you were a super hero? You do crazy shit really well, most ppl would give up or die before getting there, when did u figure that out?
Hey man. Not a question, just a fan. Been watching you since your first go in Rampage. You rock man, love your riding style. Cheers boss! Congrats on the Win at RBR as well!
Hey kyle hope its not too late to get another question in - The new GT fury this year has done really well in the world cups and Gee has loved his which clearly showed in his results. How have you found it? it is as good as Gee makes out?
Kyle, congrats on the WIN and it was great meeting you! Question....how did it feel to make Brad Ewen yell to the crowd "I NEED A WET WIPE", after you launched off the Oakley sender? You won Rampage twice and also the first to make a full grown man make a mess in his pants from dropping the sender!
Conspiracy theory here. Did you hold up the line at Rampage because you knew if the event got called you'd be the winner. I heard some riders behind you felt they could have run with the wind as it was?
where would you like to see big mountain riding going, how many big mountain contests could there be without taking out the uniqueness of the sport and how many wooden features should there be
First of all congrats on the win, your line was sick! After seeing the video T-Mac just posted on facebook which gives a much better appreciation of his drop which looked huge, was natural and had what looked like a much steeper approach compared to the sender.
He also flipped the feature just above it and still lined up and hit his drop cleanly! It seems the wooden features have taken over in the judges mind and avoiding them lowers your overall score.
Do you think his line should have gotten a higher score?
First off, Tyler rode like a man and I am so proud of him. He went first, which is undoubtedly the hardest thing to do at any competition in the world, let alone Rampage. His line did get a higher score on the second run, for that run to count everyone would have had to have done a second one. It wasn't possible on that day and its a shame Tyler and Andreu's didn't. In the end it's a judeged competition and its based on opinions.
Cheers for the reply! Its a pity the whole thing had to be called, it was obvious everyone including yourself was bummed out. Would really have loved to see you hit that line again, im sure you would had a few more things to throw in with Zink following you up with that flip!
. Props again on the win and serious props to all you guys doing such crazy shit to entertain us! You rock!
Hey Kyle, I was one of the campers at AYR with you this year and was there when you were first riding your GT straight out the box. Riding with you and Jamie was a memory of a life time for sure! I was just wondering, was it hard to get used to the new 2014 model or was it a pretty smooth transition?
Congrats on the win at the gnarliest contest that ever existed among men! What mental preparation do you do when you are sitting on top of the ridge looking at the drop in? SLAYER!
Kyle Strait. You are the freaking man. I had stopped and talked to you at Sea Otter this year and even though you seemed like you had a lot to do and places to be, you had no problem stopping and talks with me and a few others of my friends. Thanks for not letting this get to your head and being a real down to earth dude. You are an inspiration and a machine. Congrats and a I wouldnt complain if you got a third Rampage win, cause youre the guy that deserves it. Thanks dude.
Where is the landing for the lowest drop on the Icon Sender. Judging by the pictures it looks like the flat take off drops directly into the landing of the upper take offs. Did they really build it that small or is there a landing I haven't seen yet? www.pinkbike.com/photo/10201774
Hey, Kyle! With the season dwindling down I'm only hitting the last of a few unsactioned races. Last race I went to was an open class Super-D and I can honestly say I pushed to hard due to the older competition (I'm 16 by the way). I ended up taco-ing my front wheel after the first stage, but I took it off and beat it against a tree for some natural truing and it seemed to do the job and I raced the last two stages. To make a long story short I was wondering if you believe that you can't go 100%, because you usually can't have a clean run pushing that hard. I've always been told you go 95% and leave the the other 5% at home so you have a clean run. What do you think?
Haha awesome getting that wheel back in.
Yes you have to find where you ride comfortable. But, you need to get comfortable riding at that 100 percent pace. You will settle down it just takes some time.
bro ive looked up to you ever since I saw you in a mag, cant remember witch one but you sent it to the stars on a specialized demo on a ski jump on snow!! forever ago probably 2005? not sure but it was stupid big, on snow at that!! if anybody was to be champ 2 years in row it be a super sender such as your self, congrads man. hope to be hucking it at future rampages some day with you. peace brother!!
Congrats Strait!!!! Hey just wondering rampage is such a one off event with nothing else like it in the fmb series or anywhere else, I'm just wondering like how do you guys prepare yourself for the such massive drops an jumps, ur run was so flawless!
That is great. Thanks for answering. You're a true champion and sportsman. The comradery between you and Zink was awesome to see. No reason you cant be friends as well as competitors.
Would you consider hitting up FallFest at Windrock? Direct flight to Knoxville, 2300 feet of vertical, tons of trail variations...burly and you can even build whatever the heck you want!
Get on a plane! East Coast...and you can bring your 4 wheeler, ORV or moto to the same place.
I watched Wades vid of 2001, you were there in 2004. You mentioned that now in 2013 the routes you guys take are all maintained/built to a certain degree.
Sure this is progression, but do you think it adds to the risk? sure you can pull off more when you are more secure in your take off and landing, but how does this add/detract from the event?
Would you like to see more bigger lines built so you can do bigger stuff? Or more natural, therefore more uncertainly, so more skill involved...
I know a big concern is the bigger you guys go the greater chance of injury, most of you seem to show good judgement. All of you are good and the person who is on that day will win. Do you think more natural lines would make the event more interesting and safer?
Also, the closer you guys are to the ground, the less affected by wind...
This one's bigger. The event has progressed so much. It's on NBC now, so many people know about it. Also being a little older I can appreciate it more.
What do you do to prepare yourself mentally for taking such extreme risks? And how do you stay calm to do the things that you know will make it a success.
whats your opinion on the fact rampage was stopped after the wind picked up? I think you definitely deserved the win but if you could have it your way would you want the event to be finished properly the next day?
Kyle, you're obviously a big guy compared to some of the other riders out there. Do you think that helps or hurts you in an event like the Rampage? What in a more standard FMB event like Crankworx (if you were to compete)?
In the picture above, I think you bear some resemblance to Marky Mark. If you had to listen to one of these two, which would it be? "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice or "Good Vibrations" by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch?
A few weeks ago, word on the street was you were planning on running carbon wheels at rampage based on your past experience with them at Crankworx. What did you decide and why?
Yes I was planning on that.. I wasnt able to get them in time to test so I rode my regular Novatec Demon wheels
Its right at 37lbs. I dont want it any lighter.
Your pretty damn good on your DJ from previous videos and post. Are you still progressing with your DJ skills and what is the newest trick you have learned to do on both DJ bike and DH bike?
Hey Kyle dude you won Rampage, that's like every freeriders' dream! My question is what kind of music do you listen to to get pumped for big events like this? Thanks, and congrats!
Congrats on the win, you killed it out there! What advice do you have for someone aspiring to be a big mountain rider? Is there like a certain set of skills you need to have before you go out and ride that kind of stuff?
Congrats on the win! Mad respect for everyone with the balls to ride rampage. Kyle, how old were you when you first started mountain biking, and what got you into this awesome sport?
You know what they say the bigger they are the harder they fall. Your a big guy would you say you could take a big crash as well as a smaller guy like lacondeguy? Also how would you compare t-Mac big step down to the sender.
Hello KYLE!ONE QUESTION.IM 13 AND I HAVE SPONSORS,LOVE FREERISING,DOING BMX RACE AND DIRT!HOW CAN I HAVE A WILDCARS FOR RAMPAGE2014?DOING VIDEOS SHOWING MY TRICKS OR WHAT?THANK YOU!!!ASKING THIS TO YOU BECAUSE YOU WERE AT RMPAGE AT 14!!
Not really got a question for you man! Just wanna say to you and zink, ffffuuuuccccccckkkkkkkk yyyeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!! Your both off the scale! A deserved win and cam well deserved a podium. Congrats?,
How many goldfish crackers did you steal from Lydia? I am pretty sure we had an extra bag floating around!! So stoked for you and Zink! What is your longest wizard stick? I have got to 5...
1st way to go on the in !! Awesome ! How do you like the New GT Fury compared to the past carbon model and did it play a large part in your decision to sent it off the big drop ?
ridden with you a few times out at regency with taka. have any regrets from this years rampage? I mean besides winning is there any tricks or lines you wish you would have done? Super stoked for you btw!
Congrats with 2nd Rampage title, sir Kyle! As I know you took part in some UCI DH races, including some World Champs before 2011. So my question is: are you going to participate in any UCI races in future?
So bummed about the wind delay at Rampage, it literally right before your second run. Were you planning to do anything different from your first run? If so, what?
How is your mindset dropping in RedBull and knowing you are going to hit a massive Oakley sender and ride some narly stuff ? Big props bro to you and all the competitors
was it stressful at the top during the wind delay think zink could throw down a gnarly run and take the win or were kind of relieved u didnt have to do that sender again?
Now that you have won arguably the biggest freeride competition in mountain biking, TWICE! Are you going to get some new tricks in the bag to go for a three-peat next year?
Who s tuning / customizing your suspensions for rampage ? Is that a special setting / cartridge or factory stuff ? How many time do your work on it to ride 100% confident ?
1.-now you won the redbull x2 you see more often in the slope style competitions? 2 .- You thought I would like to see you visiting chile? in vca (downhill valparaiso)
Noticed most of your entire kit is American companies...any thoughts on the state of MTB in America. Go deep or not either way nice work on putting the hammer down!
I think the sport is on its way up, there was kind of a weird period there for a few years. The fact that I am supported by American companies is something I have always wanted. I hope to keep it this way and I love to see the rider owned brands starting to gain some momentum.
Toughest time is when I lost almost all of my sponsors in the 08. I to figure out how to love to ride my bike again and build myslef up.. The drive came from not wanting to be just a child star...
Dear Kyle, I've got a question for you. If you could only ride one bike in one place for the rest of you life, where and what would you be riding?Congratulations on the win!
Kyle, do have any advice for a novice jumper? I can manage small drops/tables and the odd small gap, anything bigger I just don't know how to position myself etc
Im 13 and i ride bikes, have sponsors and do teicks and love freeriding! How cain i have a Rampage wildcrad for 2014?Doing videos showing my tricks? Thanks!
congratulations at rampage kyle love your style on a bike, question how often do you ride at highland mountain bike park? and whats your favorite trail?
Being able to drive to Rampage has huge benefits for me, I can bring all my tools, fishing pole, and motos. I would love to see it in America but whereever it is I'll be there.
I would like to get a national title some day before I am out. Also have some other things I would like to do like be a speaker for the brands that have supported me. Brand ambassador.
Yeah I think it should move. Was good to have it here for 4 years, probably makes sense to skip and find a new location. It's needs a new start, so many people in the event, too many built lines. Needs to get raw again.
What about other forms of armour? It really suprises me how you guys use so little protection even when riding the biggest comp there is.. Lecondeguy was one of a few only wearing any form of chest/back protection, most just wear a helmet a knee pads.
would be awesome too see that happen! While watching Rampage this year me and all my biddies were talking about a series for the freeriders. make it happen!
when we were younger it Happened often.... Just being little sh*t kids. it happens. not anymore though. Zink and I have strength contests all the time.
No, I'm thankful for the prize money, but risk and production involved in rampage should have a reward that reflects that. Our prize money across the board is sub par compared to other action sports that are on the same international stage.
Well come on up. Gwinny and Stevie had some good runs at it last year. Besides you gotta sign my freehub mag, even though the claw put a huge signature on it haha
My Niggah! We're all proud of our 2 time RED BULL Rampage local champ!!!!! My buddy rode your used fox 40, from back in the day! Completely blown but still the tits!!!
I fish a lot, but there is definitely a difference between fishing and catching. Ive landed a few legal halibut off the beach here in California, about 25 inches.
Mojo you know theese kids that come up with some supernatural talent at young age? well Kyle was the first case like this that i can remember riding his 24 bycicles bike, pulling some nasty triks for his age. A pure natural talent. Respect for chubbys =)
Last year's model? Or will there be a 2014 distortion? I'm loving my distortion, and I was sad to see it dropped from the lineup this year. More people need to ride that bike and see how awesome it is. Hoping I can afford a Fury one day.
Do you ever consider going for a more athletic physique like most other athletes or do you prefer to kick back with a few beers? Do you think being in shape is as important for freeride as it is dh/enduro/xc?
surely brendog! how can there be a competition there? Yh, Semenuk had some amazing skills and a bag of tricks anyone would be jealous of but a world cup rider that throws the biggest one footed whips and huge drifts whenever he can has to be more stylish?

I've got a GF, but lately I think she is cheating on me.
2nd question: what do u think about 27.5" dh/freeride bikes? Would u ride one?
1) If it was filming where can i find that video ?
2) If it wasn`t filming why the f*ck did you not filmed the most epic moment of your life ?
something crazy like that. This question is for yourself and maybe talking on the behalf of others, a few people didn't get a second run. The results would have been changed 100% on and off podium, how did everyone react, and In likeliness to fairness do you think there should have been a second day of riding for the 2nd runs?
Also, i just moved from utah to huntington beach. can you tell me or message me fun ( all mountain, free ride, DH) places to ride since i know you a California dude.
Props on the win and being healthy afterwords.
Also what does it feel like to be the 1st person to nail rampage twice!!
tv.freeride-magazine.com/frontend_dev.php/video/Benderoni%25C2%25B4s-Statement%253A-Deshalb-nahm-der-Russe-nicht-bei-der-Rampage-teil-/2ce4b3779e698899ccc63a62bdb7e35c
heres a statement from benderoni...you get tears in your eyes when you listen to him :-(
when you finished your run, your face was that you where worried for cam sender backflip and started talking with him via walkie talkie.
you were realy worried for him, isnt it?
Getting really better is always close to going to your limits.
Any tipps for non pros to reach this point?
I often have in mind what could happen if I go one step to far ( bad injuries etc).
Big props to your win!
2. How do you think things would have gone down had everyone gotten all their runs in?
props on the second win!
just a quick one - what is Bender like these days? (saw he was judging at Rampage)
I got to spend a day riding Whistler with him some years back and have not seen / heard much of him since
is Bender held in high regard by the new school riders?
I always had a high respect for what Bender brought to mountain biking, and after riding DH with him, saw he was not just a "hucker" as many people had him labelled
good luck with your future plans!
Rob C
you have a special training how to react when you fall?
greets from germany
thx for the answer dude, amazing run at rampage!
-Brendan Shanahan
In regards to calculating your speed on a drop such as the Oakley Sender, why don't riders have a way of knowing there ground speed precisely so that they can factor that in to their decision on faster or slower? Like a speedometer. Rather than 100% feel?
Congrats on the win!
Stay safe and congratulations again!
P.S. Awesome seeing your run in person, so inspired!! My boyfriend and I left rampage early during all the wind pause stuff to go ride some more before leaving Utah. We were so pumped just to go ride after seeing you all blow our minds every run! I hope the event stays on the west coast.
Congrats on Rampage win #2!
First question: do you think your run deserved to win?
Second question: have you ever heard of the riding going on in Brazil? If you have (or not) did you ever considered coming here to ride?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english...
He also flipped the feature just above it and still lined up and hit his drop cleanly! It seems the wooden features have taken over in the judges mind and avoiding them lowers your overall score.
Do you think his line should have gotten a higher score?
What mental preparation do you do when you are sitting on top of the ridge looking at the drop in?
SLAYER!

Also, the closer you guys are to the ground, the less affected by wind...
sorry for my english
Can we hope to see you in some movie ??
Neither Stevie Smith or Sam Hill answerd my question will you?
P.s. How heavy is that Fury?
Sorry for my english i'm a f*cking french!
my questions, what is the best jump to pratice suicide no hander? dirt gaps or stepdown..
we need to hold the seat?
How many goldfish crackers did you steal from Lydia? I am pretty sure we had an extra bag floating around!! So stoked for you and Zink! What is your longest wizard stick? I have got to 5...
would you wanna shred laps sometime this winter in santa cruz? unpoached fresh trails, you'd love em kyle.
What are the chances a nobody like me would get to shred with a top dog like you?
Im down in socal lets handle some senders!
- sorry I see that questions been asked already
Congrats on the win!
Oakley sender and ride some narly stuff ?
Big props bro to you and all the competitors
2 .- You thought I would like to see you visiting chile? in vca (downhill valparaiso)

What will be you advise for the bigginer riders ? what steps need to do firts to have a good evolution?
what bike or frame you can reccomend under 2000$
I've got a question for you. If you could only ride one bike in one place for the rest of you life, where and what would you be riding?Congratulations on the win!
We enjoyed very much your little kid and your company.
Saludos
What injuries have you had over the years and how do you recover from them?
