I feel like I’m at the bottom of a pool looking up, but don’t believe I can make it to the surface.” – that’s how a friend described their clinical depression.

All of us have a friend or a loved one that has struggled with mental health. Maybe they’ve been brave enough to share their experience or maybe they are still doing their best to hide it from you. Maybe they’ve sought professional help or maybe they have yet to find the strength to take that critical step.

Mental health is a complicated subject for patients and the general public alike. Too often the perceived stigma causes those in need of mental health help to hide. Taking the first step on the path back to mental health can be as simple as knowing someone cares and encourages them to seek help.

Since each of us at Sombrio have someone in our lives that has experienced challenges with their mental health, we decided to come together and for Team Sombrio Cartel. We are proud to support the Shoppers Drug Mart “Ride Don’t Hide” ride raising funds and awareness for CMHA BC in support of Women’s Mental Health.

“Ride Don’t Hide” ties into the fabric of Sombrio in many ways. We are a cycling apparel company made up of riders. We are inspired by a world that rides bikes and we live and breathe the two wheel culture.

We know that mental health challenges “hide” amongst our friends and family. We recognize the tremendous benefit that exercise and community have on mental health. We believe that the combination of riding and cycling community is a great route back to mental wellbeing.

We want to do our part to help someone at the bottom of the pool make it to the surface.
