bigquotesOK some of this is going to date me, but it will also date Tippie 'cuz he's such an MTB legend! I rode mountain bikes in a fairly "normal" XC style until around 1995 when I was introduced to the movie Pulp Traction and the radical style of Brett Tippie launching himself down insanely steep lines. Suddenly I started seeking out stupid lines to ride and started thinking about burly parts rather than light parts on my bike. I think Garett and James were either biting ankles or annoying elementary school teachers at the time Brett stormed on to the scene, but like me Tippie influenced them at a young age. Fast forward to today when we actually have proper equipment for dropping in. James and Garett have been helping develop forks and shocks with SR Suntour for over a year with us and threw out the idea that Brett tested their suspension, liked the ride, and was interested in running SR Suntour on his bikes. So I'm pleased to announce that Tippie is officially on board SR Suntour. I'm so stoked to be working with a legend like Brett and know that his extensive background in riding bikes all over the globe and hard charging style will help SR Suntour continue to develop great riding products. - Darren Salsbury / SR Suntour

bigquotesTippie is the perfect addition to the SR Suntour team. He is a super inspiring person and has been a huge personal influence for me since I was a young kid watching mountain bike films. It's so cool to see him still in the industry and shredding hard! In doing this, SR Suntour shows a lot of dedication and support to the freeride genre which has helped the sport of mountain biking get to where it is today. This is super cool to see and I couldn't be more stoked! Welcome to the team Tippie! - Garett Buehler

bigquotesPumped to have Tippie on the team! After watching him rip in the videos as I grew up riding it will be cool to do some projects together with Suntour...and non stop laughs. - James Doerfling

bigquotesI am super excited to work with SR Suntour! They have been around a long time making great products for themselves and nearly everybody, and are now making some sweet, high end mtb suspension! I've been rocking my Suntour Durolux on my 6" Slayer all mtn bike and a 8" Suntour triple clamp Rux Werx on my Flatline DH bike for a while now and they are wicked! Solid, plush, light, easy to tinker with, and look cool! I look forward to having a great relationship with SR Suntour and spreading the word to the people! - Brett Tippie

Nice Tippie!...but it still SR suntour

Oh I'm sorry, what suspension company do you ride for?

From what I hear across the pond that SR Suntours forks are really decent and affordable. I'm sure their past hurts them a lot, but I do believe you can do right again unless you're CrankBrothers.....Sorry, you can't help them.

Everyone used to make fun of Xfusion until they started churning forks that are arguably better than the big names for half the price. Give them a chance, its not like competition hurts us.

Dude PLC07 have you ever ridden an X-fustion? they feel ok, but after about a week the crown separates from the steer tube and creaks like there is no tomorrow. They have about as much life as a roll of toilet paper in a swimming pool.

I haven't ridden one under heavy trail conditions but a lot of the reviews are good. I guess the long term quality is quite unknown at this point though.

man, sr suntor rocks!!! here in Colombia its the most popular for its price-quality relation and they are ok if you get the right one, i have sr suntor all mountain 150mm single crown air sprung rux in my hardtail and handles very good assuming im 100kg heavy.

damn suntour has a nice team now, no not dh world cup winning team but none of us ride like that, they have a sick freeride team and thats how alot of us ride (albeit slower and not as big)

Tippie man, what can I say? Back when I was 30 you were inspiring me to go bigger. Now that I am 40 I am even more pumped. Between you, Peaty, and CG, I have 1,000 reasons to get out and shred. Old school dudes are still pushing the envelope!!! And, thank you suntour for keeping the pace!

The Gerry Lopez of Freeride Mountain Biking. Tippie is such an inspiration.

 Who is Gerry Lopez?

dang marzocchi seems to be goin downhill. First lopes now tippie, 2 mtn bike legends gone. However they do have brook macdonald. But still especially with the guys starting that new suspension company DVO and most of them leaving marzocchi cuz they didnt like where the company was going. Seems to be that marzocchi is goin out
  • 6 4
The reason alot of people left Marzocchi was because they lost SR Suntour as a supplier, as SR Suntour made all their forks, and if SR Suntour are going to make their own high end forks, why would they want to produce forks for their competitors.
  • 3 1
hmmm didnt know that, thanks for the info! now i just feel like a jerk
  • 9 3
What? The reason these people left Marzocchi was not because Suntour making their forks, it's because Suntour pays better... At the end of the day that's what it's all about
  • 6 2
Suntour stopped producing them, therfore the future is of Marzocchi is extremely unclear, IMO it would a be a huge shame to see Marzocchi go, their forks really where/are on the up. I had a go on some 2012 888 RC3s, and they were the plushest forks i have ever ridden.
  • 3 4
I can't remember the name of the company, but I remember reading here on pinkbike that the three main engineers at Mrazochi have started their own company, and that Marzoci may be no more very soon.
  • 8 0
Marzocchi's future is not that unclear. Suntour was going to buy them, when they decided that they won't that led to a little confusion, but now the current owners (Tenneco) are going to keep them and Hodaka is going to produce the forks, which - to me - seems a decent replacement for Suntour.
  • 2 1
Marzocchi has there moto stuff too. Which seems to be doing pretty well
  • 1 0
the future of marzocchi's *MTB* devision is unclear. but just to clarify marzocchi is not going out of business there other produtcs such as there moto suspension is hear to stay for sometime. soo just to clarify to some, the only thing that might go under is there MTB devision not the rest of there company.
  • 1 0
Yeah its sort of sad really but marz looks like they are about done, sort of like what happened to RS in 02 and manitou in 06 they just have no one to produce their stuff and tenneco apparently doesnt give a s*** about the mtb div

In the 60's you had surfer legends, those guys that every high school kid wanted to be like. In the seventies you had skate boarding and the beginning of pool riding, and for some of us those skateboards and skateboard legends will never die...

Tippie is that kind of legend in mountain biking, he came along before the commercialization hit in. along with Dangerous Dan and the others he has created the stage we all imagine every-time we ride an MTB. He is of the Golden age of mountain biking. Im glad to have watched all of this growth up to this point.

Im not sure I understand SR Suntour equipment? I suppose this is how one brings there name back into the graces of the masses..

Its nice to see he's kick'n shook'n all the way to the banks.

i may be wrong here, but it looks like he's still running a marzocchi shock?

Nop, that's a Suntour Rux proto ( dual crown ) and a Durolux ( single crown ). The Durolux is actually pretty nice for the price.
  • 3 0
I believe he's talking about the rear shock, which still does look like a Marz to me too.
  • 4 2
Yeah just noticed it now, moment of pure retardedness for me just there ... It does look like a Roco WC, as much as their forks improved, the shocks are still not good enough.
  • 1 0
I have a Durolux TAD and I am loving it! There was a spy shot of SR Suntour using a nitrogen-charged air shock for DH, but I haven't heard squat since. Seems that SR Suntour is banking a lot on air spring technology.

flag melonhead1145 (Aug 9, 2012 at 10:11) (Below Threshold)
Air is the way forward, its lighter and more versatile that coil, and these days air shocks are almost as good as coil, they just require more looking after to maintain the seals
  • 3 0
Have you ever tried and compared air vs coil forks/shocks? Pretty damn sure coils aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
  • 1 0
air for xc/am, coil for dh i'd say. unless you specifically race and have access to a tech! Still I like coil better on the big bike
  • 1 0
Nice! A friend of mine also rides the double crown fork, as he rides for Nicolai/Gates team and seems to be pretty happy with it!

 TIPPIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
  • 1 0
is this a dual crown fork by suntour on the first picture ?
  • 1 0
For some reason, that dual crown fork looks light weight!
  • 10 0
Because the guy controlling it is built like a tank?
  • 1 0
SR suntour doesnt even have these forks on there site lol?
