SR SUNTOUR teamed up with Mike Jones and the fine city of Squamish to share what we all wished was out our front door.

bigquotesRiding in Squamish is always incredible, be it an old classic or one of the many new trails in town. We tried to shoot a mix of real trails that people can easily find on the maps instead of mystery trails made just for filming...it equals a few less loam explosions for the viewer, but if you end up in Squamish you can easily find and ride this stuff yourself. - Mike Jones

 That stoppie turn was SICK!

For reference, the filmmaker has a hard time riding that rock turn at all!

@savagefilms Stoppies (nose wheelies) and nose manuals are one of the coolest things to add flare to any trick of video. Also you need mad skill to pull them off consistently on natural trails. Iv always thought that trick separates the good riders from the great ones. You say you have mad skill? I say lets see you roll that stoppie one handed.

Great riding Mike! Team old man!

@properp Savage films made the vid so when he's saying the filmmaker has a hard time riding the rock at all, it also implies he def can't nose wheelie it.

Pinkbike poll: Would you rather pay for your own fork or be sponsored by suntour?
  • 4 4
 ...

Dupster knows nothing about suntour. They make some pretty damn good forks.
  • 10 5
My Auron is a great fork and I paid for it (maybe not quite retail though....). Pretty light, stiff and plush enough with a nice ramp-up at the end. No stupid CTD etc....just adjust it and forget it.

I had some rockin anodized hubs from Suntour in the 80's on my BMX. 35 years later and they still work and my kid still rides them.
  • 1 0
Suntour did make some ace components back in the day, suntour drivetrain was cream of the crop at one point, strange to think now
  • 8 0
I paid for my own Suntour.
  • 2 5
My next fork might be suntour or x fusion. If they offer it for free, it's a no brainer for me

i wish i was cool enough to ride an off brand shock, but im not. xfusion and suntour are years behind fox and rockshox.
  • 17 2
I'm not sure that they are that much behind. Thing is, I'm no Cam Zink or Peaty. At the level of my riding, top end suspension under me is like formula F1 carbon fenders on a ford Fiesta. It may look good, but its overkill to the point of stupid.

The Durolux got great reviews and is said to be comparable to a Pike and 36, I believe. My Marz completely blows away my RS and Fox forks. I don't think you can just look at a product and assume that if it doesn't have the marketing dollars behind it for a significant presence at WC races, it must be inferior. That being said, they do sell a lot of low end OEM forks for those sub $1k builds and that might tarnish their name, but it probably is only paying for the R&D for their top of the line forks.

That's it, I'm going to Squamish!

*looks at wallet in despair

Nevermind.

and that's even before you get there and try to find a place and pay rent whoops..... you had to buy cause there's nothing to rent

At least your Yankee bucks go 25% farther up here!

 I'm going this weekend, sorry!

You seem to forget the $CAD is a $USD0.74 right now...It's basically 25% cheaper to travel for you
  • 3 0
stones, just do it! I spent 12 days out there in early sept. few days in squampton, a few in the bike park, and a few in pemberton! the riding is unreal in BC!
  • 1 0
Squampton haha, not heard that used in a bit. Was so sketched out having our bikes in a hotel there after what I friends went through.
  • 4 0
 Not 25%, 30%. Today, 1 USD = 1.33 CAD. Frown

rather ride Squamish then the North Shore , plus after the shred yay hit MAGS99 and get a burrito for the ride home
  • 3 0
 Chimichanga Loco!
  • 3 1
Never thought I'd say that, but I agree. The Shore is a pale shadow of what it used to be.
  • 8 0
Squamish has always been better than the shore. Not even close.
  • 4 1
15 year ago different story. GMG, Jerry Rig, Walk in the Clouds, Whatchamacallit, Circus among many others that scared the crap out of me on a regular basis. Unfortunately hardcore trails go against the new Shore creed of trails for all where everything should be doable by everyone, and no ones feelings get hurt because they cant roll something. Rode Squamish back then and it was great, but not at the intensity level of the Shore. Squamish has definately taken the better direction.
  • 2 0
Where in squamish is the trails like those mentioned above. Everything I have ridden there is pretty easy nothing more than the shore has to offer. And with the rebuilding of stunts like pile driver I don't see how the shore is getting easier. I enjoy riding both.
  • 23 0
That place doesn't even look real. once again, BC making riders unhappy with where they live.
  • 19 0
It's cool watching vids I can almost relate to. I don't need to do the Rampage, or a whip off a 60 foot gap, I'd just wanna ride that kinda shit.

Moved from Toronto to the North Shore two years ago and will never live out East again. Welcome to the promised land!!!!
  • 1 0
Thanks See you on the trails
  • 9 0
Toronto to Squamish eh? To prepare yourself I'd suggest that you envision stepping into a time machine and traveling back fifty years to a strange land where the trees are green, the view is endless and the people are friendly - with no hidden agendas. When you get to squamish Try not to punch any strangers in the face if they say hi to you, and if you do- then just explain that you recently moved from Toronto, and it's a colloquial form of greeting in that city. THey will understand as soon as you say Toronto.
It might help your acclimatization process if you go for walks without your phone, shop for carhartts or flannel, and perhaps consider trudging up and down the occasional staircase.

I want to know how you were able to afford the house, let alone what line of work you are in which was transferable between TO and Squampton...I would love to follow your lead, but have no feasible idea how.
  • 1 0
best move you will ever make.

be stoned and watch it, i promess it s so magic

Cool vid, dude has skill. BC is my Disney Land. Whistler has great trail riding too. Rode trails for five days and saw maybe a handful of riders. Crazy. Trails are the best ever. Stopped in Squamish and rode the tourist trail Half Nelson which was the closing ride to an epic trip. Truly a great place to ride. Thanks to all who build such awesome trails.
  • 6 1
Why slow down for that footplant? felt way out of character for the video the rest of which was awesome!
  • 2 0
You can hit up Whistler and pay or stay in Squamish for 65 a night at the Chief Motor Inn with a kitchenette. Buy your groceries at Nestors and ride for free. Of course buy your trail Karma at Tantalus Bike shop. Squamish has a few epic days of riding that will make you come back with friends. A couple of days in Squamish and you look at Whistler a bit differently. Pemberton next. Ride On.....good days to all.

Its not why I moved to Squamish... but defiantly a good reason to stay.
  • 9 0
 and definitely too!
  • 5 0
That made me want to ride... Good thing I live in Squamish Wink
  • 3 0
I want to get a summer house in Squamish and a winter place in Moab. Both have amazing climbing and mtn biking. Too bad I'm not pretty enough for a sugar daddy.
  • 2 0
I am ashamed to admit that I've been to Whistler several times and only ever stopped in Squamish to pee at the Tim Horton's. I've gotta correct this mistake next trip out west.
  • 1 0
I dunno, stopping to pee at Tim Horton's isn't a mistake. Just get a coffee and a couple of energy rings on the way out... See comments above about Quest University. Location is amazing, and the trails are so close at hand. Need to get back up there again.

I always enjoy Savage Films videos! Fun to showcase some accessible trails. Squamish is a great place to ride, especially on your way home after several days in the park at Whistler.

Mike Jones crushes it on the trail bikes! That nose wheelie corner was rad
  • 3 0
That noser was one of the few clips that have made me yell expletives at the screen in a long while. Just a sick level of control.
  • 1 0
Rad! Looks super fun! I met a gal at interbikes unloading ramp who worked for PB and she briefly mentioned how much she loved it up there. Now i see what she was saying! Sign me up.

If I ever get back to BC I'm not heading straight back to whistler bike park, I'm definitely riding these trails. They look astounding.
  • 1 0
Squamish, another place on my growing list of places I need to ride.

Any one fancy crowd funding this for me?
  • 2 0
 Yeah! The original Mike Jones.
  • 1 0
Rode the angry pirate last week for the first time. The whole place and the people were amazing!! Can't wait to go back.
  • 1 0
Mike Jones is a mountain biking robot!!! Killing it as usual, such a good rider and such a good ambassador for the sport.
  • 1 0
It did't say that intestinal fortitude was one of the trails even though it was
  • 1 0
I've just got back from 3 weeks of riding all around BC and have to agree. Squamish was a real highlight!

I need to get me some of those sweet sr suntour socks!

the fastest and most talented riding town in Canada, if not the World. There I said it.
  • 2 0
first taco bell/kfc I ever saw was there. 1996. totally irrelevant
  • 2 0
Now its "Mags99" so that goes to show that everything has made drastic improvements in Squamish. Much better the meat out of a pump and fried rat wings.
  • 1 0
Squamish riding reminds myself of the coast. Only people age 25-45 can and want to live there. :/
  • 1 0
Its a bit hard to find and ride but Flowmaster is one of Squampton's best trails.
  • 1 0
 is that in crumpit?
  • 1 0
Its an old trials trail on Mt Crumpit.
  • 2 0
 A dusty Squampton? Who knew?
  • 1 0
tree'd, things move quickly around here.

I want to be there. Why so far?...Damn it Frown

Please for the love of god, stop calling it "Squampton". Thank you all In advance
  • 2 0
Shall we go for Squantanamobay instead?
  • 1 0
 Good Vid Mike!
  • 1 1
could we have the name of the trails?
  • 2 0
The trail names are all at the end of the edit... comes up on screen right after the 'Savage films' logo pops onto screen. Hit pause and you will see them all, then go find them on the Trailforks map at the bottom.

 Going to ride Sq tomorrow

@caradock It is nice to see a video filmed on legit trails rather than "secret" nugs.

Legit stoppie down the rock corner.
  • 1 0
The list at the end missed at least one trail - the big slab at the beginning was on Intestinal Fortitude.

 Looking good Mike!

Squampton is legit! I recommend the Test of Metal to anyone who wishes to have a great time in the land of suffering.
  • 2 0
There is some great races in Squamish. Test of Metal is not one of them. If you are itching to do an XC race, Gear Jammer, JABR are much better races.

parts of that video looked sped up in post
