OCTOBER 2011
It was a mountain bike journey alongside Anthill Films and riders Andrew Shandro and Rene Wildhaber into the Himalaya of Nepal, for the new film 'Strength In Numbers'. We were there to discover the riding potential that this country had, but even more so to explore and discover how the sport of mountain biking has found a home and passion amongst the locals. It is a fascinating experience to travel across the globe into the most remote villages and stumble onto a local core mountain bike culture that is newly, passionately, entrenched in riding mountain bikes in their home range - the Himalaya. This is the collection of photos that I gathered while amongst these new friends. We set out to discover how our sport of mountain biking is developing in Nepal. A trip like this does not happen without endless support and hospitality from the locals, so a mandatory shout-out to all those that pointed in the right direction, showing us the time of our lives:

Mads Mathiasen at Himalayan Trails, Nirakar Yakthumba, Upendra Rana and family, Thagendra and Tenzing Gurung, Shayam Shrestha, Mandil Pradhan, Suresh Raj Shakya, Ganga and Jamuna Thapa, Jitendra Chaudhari, Vincent Shrestha, Purnaman Nakarmi, ridenepal.com and all that I missed....NAMESTE!

I was in Nepal about 13 years ago before I had a bike, so was walking this type of trail. Sterling's beautiful photos have brought a lump to my throat. Nepal is truly an incredibly beautiful place. Its landscape and people etch themselves into your soul. A country I will never forget and one I crave to return to. This time with the bike though. That riding looks epic! And wha'ts the soundtrack? Really like it.

So beautiful. The further you get away from civilization, the nicer things are. Says a lot about humanity...

What an amazing place, hopefully riding spots will continue to develop, and the whole riding community too. I'd take that over whistler any day.
