Sweetlines, the women-focused, woman-led mountain bike coaching service today announced the Sugar Shred Camp, a new mountain bike training clinic exclusively for women to be held in Portland, Oregon, on February 28 - March 2, 2014. The event will include one evening of personalized coaching at the Lumberyard Indoor Mountain Bike Park and three days of bike-related events.

Event host Kat Sweet of Sweetlines has enlisted a crew of pro riders and ICP-certified women coaches from across North America to help women improve their “ridestyle” skills, which include jumping, pumping, riding “park,” and riding wood structures.

Interested women riders with at least one year of mountain biking or BMX experience are invited to attend. Riders will be divided into groups based on ability, enabling coaches to mentor and challenge new and seasoned riders alike in a supportive and encouraging environment. Video technology (cameras and video screens) will be leveraged to further individualize the training process and offer riders additional resources for improving their skillset.

The Sugar Shred Camp marks the first stop of the Sweetlines Sugar Tour, a series of 3 bike skills clinics for women. “We set up the Sugar Shred Camp to be a great pre-season start to ridestyle skill-building in a non-competitive environment,” said Sweet. “We want riders to improve their skills and confidence early on, which can especially help them if they decide to participate in other Sugar Tour events that feature ridestyle competitions.”

The coaching clinic as well as a catered dinner will be held on Saturday, March 1, when the Lumberyard will be closed to the public from 4:30-10:30 pm. The 3-day camp will include other bike-themed activities, including a coaches’ meet & greet and “Chick Flicks” movie night on Friday, and a “Ride with the Pros” social ride on Sunday.

Sponsors including Oakley, Deity, Dakine, VP, G-Form, Nutcase, and Race Face have signed on for the event, and prizes will be awarded. There will also be a film crew on hand to document coaches, riders and supporters in a feature length documentary, “The Sisterhood of Shred.”

Kat is an awesome lady and rider! I've had the privilege to know and work with her for a bit now, and I guarantee she can shred harder than most dudes I know. Great coach, I'm sure if anyone attends, they'll have a good time and walk away a better rider!
