Westward Ho!

So ardent defense of the east coast bike scene not withstanding, I am officially moving to southern Utah. In fact, i write this from the back seat of my extended cab truck in a parking lot in Salina Kansas. I'm driving across the US to get to my new job. This isn't the first time i've tried to get to this new job. I accepted, backed out, accepted, had my flight cancelled by a blizzard or two, and finally accepted the offer for the third time and packed up the truck to head out.
My pregnant wife and 3 kids will follow out in a couple months once i have a place for them,
I'm excited. I'm headed for the magic land of eternal biking,
I actually intend to settle in Cedar City, putting me an adequate 2.5 hours from my in-laws in Provo, 45 minutes from Brian Head and hopefully my second job (I'll do anything if it gets me sime free lift time) and 45 minutes from Saint George with its year round trails.
I am a NY boy. I mean sure, i was born in Ohio, the majority of my siblings were born in Utah, I met my wife in Idaho and lived a while in Oregon before moving to NY, but my family goes back more than 100 years in a small town in upstate New York. I grew up visiting that lush green land every summer, listening to my dad tell stories and misapply James Taylor songs about it at bed time, and getting home videos of all the fun our cousins were having from my aunt every Christmas. It was home, even if only in my dreams!
I moved my family there 5 years ago. I did school, had three kids, and spent the whole time dreaming of mountains. It helps that there are jobs in the depressed north eqst for a guy with a BA in Psychology.
So finally i am headed west. For the next two months i plan to use this blog as a journal for my adventures. I can only hope it is everything I ever dreamed.
PS, is there anything rideable in the I-70 corridor in Colorado right now?
