Video: Fall Time Living at Coast Gravity Park

Dec 2, 2014 at 9:04
by Coastal Crew

The Coastal Crew has been keeping busy in the woods of the Sunshine Coast creating the world’s first year-round mountain bike facility in the small coastal town of Sechelt. Funded entirely by the support of the mountain bike community this project is a true testament to how rad our sport really is. Leave the skis in the closet this winter and come ride with The Coastal Crew – this place is open year round.

Only 4.5 stars for Mr. Green- poor show guys!! Ha ha. I honestly want to go here more than I want to go to Whistler. I wonder how much I can get for a lung and a kidney on Ebay.
  • 19 0
That was a lot of style in one video
  • 8 0
Unreal riding. Fast and style for miles.

I can't see their faces but they all look real happy riding there!

Selling a kidney should do it. It's worth about 60-70k, so you'll be doing a lot of laps, on a brand spanking new top of the line bike! Here's a link Razz kidneykidney.com

Brilliant vid, and Norbs didn't get robbed!!!

Sick edit but - sorry, if I was a gambling man I'd say most of those clips were clearly sped up in frame rate. Faking the funk!
  • 5 1
@NYShred none of those shots were sped up man. Its the Coastal Crew, they're just that good
  • 2 1
I am only a few hours from there...whats wrong with me. I need to hit that sit.
  • 3 1
I think that joke sailed over a LOT of heads...I feel you man! :')
  • 3 2
 Norby! (I'm his friend.)

when you are watching a new video for several times in a row you know its a coastal crew edit! these guys never disappoint. always deliver the good stuff. it was a clever move from specialized to bring these guys to their rooster. makes the big s a littlebit more likeable after sueing everybody and their moms. they are brilliant advertising mediums too.
and that unimog is a bad ass shuttle rig :-)
  • 26 1
Dylan's segment was amazing, not to discredit Norbs or Curtis, but man I thought Dylan was crushing it!
  • 23 1
 Yeah man...
they know those trails well...almost as if they designed and built them themselves eh?
  • 5 0
when he knocked that branch of with his rear wheel!!!
  • 6 0
also good to see them on the old demo's!
  • 3 0
Never noticed it before but Dylan's riding reminds me so much of Nathan Rennie. Position on the bike, power etc...
  • 20 0
Holy freakin cow that's the edit that brings me through the winter. Soooo awesome on so many ways.

AND can someone make an article about "Intern". Maybe a photo epic about his person and life. "The rise of Intern" or sth....
I bet he has an interesting personality.
  • 15 0
Just insanely good riding, Curtis' part especially.

Is anyone else wondering why they are riding the old demos still though?
  • 10 0
 shorter chainstays? for the 360s
(Just a theory)
  • 8 5
I believe it's just Spec being cheap. It quite surprises me though, that Norbs had an S-Works on rampage, yet apparently lacks one afterwards..
  • 20 10
Because the new ones are sh*t
  • 19 2
@Scrobb I like how you support your statement right there
  • 11 0
Curtis and Ropo had them for marketing purposes on Rampage for sure.
  • 10 0
i am asking myself why they are still riding the alloy demos? perhaps specialized wont allow them to use the carbon rigs?
and its nice to see that they are still using 26". just saw one edit with curtis and ropelato riding the new 650b enduro sworks.
perhaps it was pure marketing that norbs rode the complete new 650b carbon demo at rampage? you cant have better advertisment for a new rig, but why dont they use it on their video? thousands of people will watch this edit, too. i think they are used to their old beloved wheelsize and that is 26"
  • 18 0
if i would get a alloy demo for free, i wouldn't care about the carbon one
  • 14 0
Because 26" are more playful and thats what you want on these types of trails. Also specialized wants to remind people alloy is still for sale.
  • 7 1
I would prefer the "old" 26'' alloy version over the new one any time
  • 3 2
i agree, old alloy with 26" is the bike you'd want for park riding and free riding. the linkage on the new carbon demo's looks like a compromise, worse suspension for more weight savings.
  • 1 0
@TFreeman The linkage is, in fact, nearly identical in its behavior: linkagedesign.blogspot.ca/2014/08/specialized-demo-2015.html
After riding the new Demo, it is indeed a bit less nimble bike, but still pretty playful to me. But at least they could get the 2014 carbon, I'd say? It saves a whole lot of weight, and all the content produced by Coastal Crew sure makes it a worthwhile investment, to show them carbon haters it can sustain a hit or two.
But apparently, carbon Demos are primarily for their sponsored racers..and kenny smith, for some reason.
  • 2 0
They have their own preferences just like you have yours..
  • 1 0
They might use old specialized demo's as there rentals for the park and just used them because they were available. (just a possibility)
  • 1 0
@PerfectDirtBro Nope, there's no rentals in the park, nor I think there will be in the near future. It's definitely their own bikes Smile
  • 5 1
 Norbs got robbed.
  • 3 1
Or maybe this video was filmed before Rampage and Specialized hadn't given them frames yet?
  • 1 1
@bikesandfun Pretty sure Norbs had the yellow one shortly before Rampage (well, could have changed stickers, but why..)
  • 1 1
Looks to me like two of those bikes are alloy 650b Demos.
  • 16 3
Awesome video, lovely trails. But "worlds first year-round mountain bike facility"??? That's a bit much.
  • 3 1
Exactly. I know of at least one year round bike park and that is in Belgium, with shitty weather and snow and all...
Still maybe the first for Canada. Wink
  • 2 0
If you are talking about malmedy, you are wrong, it is not open all year round for bikes , but only for skiing in the winter. Lately due to no snow it does stay open later however.
  • 11 0
I don't know of anywhere in the UK that shuts for winter , sure the the tarts who don't want mud on their legs and rain on their clothes dont show up but the trails always run
  • 1 0
Ponte de Lima Bikepark in the north of Portugal is open all year long
  • 1 0
If I remember correctly, Malmedy was closed for a maximum of 5 weekends because of snow. But ok, technically they aren't open all year round...
  • 2 0
It was funny how they closed for bikers last year to open for skiers, but no snow fell. So they just reopened for bikers.
  • 1 0
True. Was there very early this year. Can't recall which date exactly.
  • 1 0
It will be the world's first year round lift accessed park
  • 1 0
Do they have a chairlift? I thought they just had landys towing trailers.
  • 1 0
@brycemtb, their website says shuttles, nothing new about that bro. But still a magnificent place to ride I'm sure.
  • 1 0
The plan was to put a lift in, I dont remember when they were saying it may be done.
  • 2 0
A chairlift is being designed and is in the near future. It doesn't make economical sense for them to put one in now because they don't have enough people riding everyday. Everyone would rather put effort into a larger trail network. Plus they have to wait for the park to get a larger following and for Sechelt to adjust to the influx of riders. (I talked with the owners while I was shooting there.)
  • 12 0
someone please make something like this in Aus, or if there is, tell me where ahhhhhhh
  • 9 0
The jump trails there get most of the hype but devils elbow and hand job have got to be some of the most fun trails I have ever ridden. Props to tha crew
  • 13 0
I bet hand job gave you a lot of fun.
  • 31 0
oh, it did, was a little dry though.

That's it, I'm moving to Canada! Any jobs going, I'll sweep the tracks every day or be the coast park bike washer.
  • 2 0
Loads of jobs going in canada if you have a trade like electrician or plumber , a good chunk of the jobs advertised in our local job centre are calling for tradesmen in canada !
  • 1 0
 Anything in the IT area?
  • 1 0
dunno to be honest , check out direct.gov/jobs , loads of canadian posts and australian too last time I checked
  • 8 0
 They call him Norby!
  • 2 0
Sick zone. Just be aware when they load your bikes. Wrecked my buddy's demo frame on a shore rack when the person didn't know how to load it. He has yet to be compensated in any way.

How to use the slo-mo in one video. This vid is costal crew signature and those guy already amazing.
  • 1 1
I'd much rather see the vid with less slo mo.
We've all seen slomo whips now. I'd like to see more at balls to the wall speed.
Tracks in the vid look great fun Smile
  • 1 0
Sure the coast gravity park seems to be a dream place to ride.
  • 1 0
we all know that the coastal crew ride specialized bike it's one of the best pub out there, you watch good riding and specialized bike so unconscious you associated specialized with good riding i don't have an opinion on demo 8 bike because i didn't ride one but after seeing this video you can only have a good opinion
  • 4 0
They just are the best aren't they. Like ever.
  • 3 0
Great video! It would be great to see a bikecheck of all the three Demos with detailed photos.
  • 4 0
Alright BC that's it... Im coming back !
  • 1 0
genuinely want to thank these guys for the content they put out... its riders like these that keep me motivated and infatuated with riding. now back to replaying this 100 times.

  • 3 0
 AAAALVIN!!!!!!

The question is: WILL THEY SWITCH TO 650B !!???? Please NÔ !!
  • 2 1
Looks like Norby and Dunkerton are on 650b bikes.
  • 1 0
That just looks so incredibly fun to me. But I keep being told I'm wrong, fast flow trails with nice berms are apparently boring, "Chunk is where the fun is," I keep being told. But I so want to ride there.
  • 4 1
Norby went for the full pull!
  • 3 0

Dylan Dunkertons frame is soooo sickk, but... what is it meant to be?
  • 3 0
 www.bikerumor.com/2014/04/04/bike-check-dylan-dunkertons-coastal-camo-edition-specialized-demo

the frame looks sick! it is a camo pattern of a cedar tree and he printed vinyl decals of a picture of it to put on his frame. i think it looks awesome and he has the same design on his stumpjumper evo in their "rake and ride" video. coastal crew rule them all!!!
