Hillbilly HuckFEST

The Hillbilly HuckFEST went down again as one of the craziest and most fun Freeride MTB events ever. The essence is pure. It's all about riding big and flowy jumps with a bunch of friends, sick riders and with a unique crowd that is on fire all the time.

Makken hosted the event for the third time in a row, Aasmund Thorsen is the main man behind the machines, doing a great job shaping up the course and the Huckfest crew is always doing a great job with hosting all the riders and organising the whole event, which is made up by concerts, parties, and trail rides.

The FEST riders have been riding, shooting videos and photos all week long. The conditions weren't ideal because it was more wind and rain than the past years, but there were big sessions going down everyday, especially because there is light until 11pm.

The main session went down Saturday at 5pm, where fortunately the wind stopped and the session went crazy.

bigquotesWe stepped up the course this year and it made it all flow allot better! I'm stoked to see where it is going and the changes it makes on the way. the whole huckFEST crew put in allot of effort this year and this would not go down so legit without them, I am grateful! I hope the boys had fun and are stoked to come back for next year. Keep it rolling 26/7. Makken

bigquotesHuckfest is always a blast. The jumps are sizable and sessionable, and the vibe is perfect for a FEST event. The Hillbilly crowd, concerts and parties at the farm sets the perfect surrounding for all time sessions every year, and I can't wait to go back in 12 months. Trond Hansen

bigquotesHuckfest 2015 had it all! Makken set us up with a cabin in Hafjell for four days before the actual Huckfest started, we had free park passes and food taken care of so all we had to do was shred the bike park until we couldn't hold on to the bar anymore! Then we road tripped over to Al for the Week of Huckfest, Asmund and the farm boys had been working so hard on revamping the course and the party barn so that once we got there we could ride and party all we wanted. We had some wind issues when it came time to shred but we powered through and got sick photos and footage with Blur Media and our GoPros. All in all best vibes! Kyle Jameson

not talking about lacondeguy obviously, he got in redbull 9 years ag. Talking about all those thelanders, martins, matt jones n shit, FAR from real free riders

I joke, I joke and I agree with you

Why can't people just be stoked for Makken rather than moaning about what other riders RB have signed? If your Martins comment was aimed at Soderstrom then you need your head looked at: www.pinkbike.com/video/266710

@gavlaa not ofending man, but martin is not a free rider like these guys. He can ride an enduro bike down a bike park doing mac macs and all this gay kick outs and shit, but he's not like makken, lacondeguy, semenuk, aggy and those guys, he doesn't have the real free ride steeze. Hardtrail contest kid. Thats why I'm stoked to see Redbull supporting an athlete like Makken, and athlete that doesn't give a shit about barspins and little kids tricks to be on a top of a ranking. Thats why all these fest guys are the best, they riding for fun and they ride for the REAL FREERIDE !

Pd: Haters gonna hate, but lots of people know about what I'm talking about...

@jeremyclark - I kinda think you're missing the point- all I'm saying is you can be stoked for Makken (I am too) without having to even mention 'contest kids'. I don't like to sound like Taylor Swift but it seems like you're the hater. Yeah, Makken is a freerider and it is awesome RB picked him up - anyone who can jump OVER trees gets a thumbs up from me. I love FEST but I'm still stoked when I watch the FMB events. Sorry if that makes me a bad person.
  • 8 0
hahaha that last comment tho. "haters gonna hate" you're the hater @jeremyclark did one of the slope guys steal your girlfriend?
  • 1 0
Redbull has signed "Real Freeride" guys, Berrecloth, Bourden, Cruz, Strait. One of the problems is the lack of bike vids to showcase these riders skills. Hopefully the Fest series will give these guys that exposure that is missing. It seems to with Makken which is well deserved.
@gavlaa you are what we call a "Mountain biking fan" Im sure you also watch "World Cups"!!
  • 6 0
@rockyflowtbay - I love it all. BMX, Skate, Surf... The edit of the year for me so far has been the R Dog In the Know- I just love to see a bike thrown and manipulated with style and precision. I think I also took offense to Jeremyclark because Red Bull are behind so many of the events I enjoy watching in loads of different sports. They basically sponsor me- I sit at work watching their videos all day getting paid so I feel it's only right to stick up for them every now and then.
  • 2 5
@makripper exactlty, thats why i know what I'm talking about. @gavlaa of course it doesn't make u a bad person, just have a different opinion on whats MTB free ride and whats bmx on 26 wheels. Stoked for Makken yes, and OVER seen redbull helmets on those kids and not on the true MTBers like those guys. Hate me, whatever, its just my opinion. Companies should go more on the true mtb free ride side and less on the BMX 26" side. Thats my opinion, it makes me a bad person now? If it does i don't give a shit
  • 3 0
you only think you know what you are talking about which is more dangerous. They do some gnarly as shit and defintely deserve what they get. most of those guys could easily hang with the fest series dudes. have you been to crankworx? that shit isn't small at all in real life. give your head a shake.
  • 2 5
Of course i ve been there buddy, and I'm not talking on whats more dangerous, Im talking on whats REAL mtb and whats BMX with 26 wheels. For you maybe freeriding is do a oppo 3 barspin on a boner log, but for me freeriding is what all those guys (Aggy, Lacondeguy, Doerfling, Zink, Makken…) are doing. Thats why I'm stoked to see a dude like Makken getting the lid instead of another bmxer with 26 wheels as they been geting for the last years. And chill out buddy, coz it looks like some fest guy steal your girl maybe?
  • 4 0
@jeremyclark getting mad and saying riders arent real free riders at a contest on jumps more manicured then a soccer moms finger nails...... yeah that makes sense......
  • 3 0
and real freeriders are guys like brett tippie, bender, richie schely, darren berrecloth..... you know they guys thats started the whole freeride movement...
  • 3 3
@cptstoney man mad respect for those legends of course ! I prefer to see bearclaw on a redbull lid then a kid without front brake bike
  • 8 0
Gees @jeremyclark - I give up trying to make you understand that you can like one thing without hating all others. You're like a dumbass football supporter who is convinced that supporters from rival teams are a bunch of twats when in reality they're all the same as one another (all twats! haha). We're all mountain bikers- stop whining about stuff that doesn't matter- if you're this angry over slopestyle tricks then I'd pay to see your fury over 29ers.
  • 1 2
@gavlaa I'm just tired to see how something that they sell it as freeride is NOT free ride. Tired of see the real freeriders getting dropped from sponsors coz some old dudes are making tons of money making events and using little hard trail kids with the name of freeride to get money from. You not gonna make me understand nothing if you don't understand me either. Go watch some FMB videos and wank your self then
  • 1 0
They sell it as slopestyle. Fest is sold as big jumps. Both aren't freeride at all lol. Just shut it already
  • 1 0
To add to it FMB is just a name that covers a lot of bases. Rampage isn't even freeride. Mtb in general is just wack. Freeride is to ride your bike freely on or off whatever you want loosely based off skiing and snowboarding but there are no freeride comps in skiing or snowboarding. Big mtn, slope, pipe, park, etc. Mtb uses the term too loosely for everything. Fest series is just big jumps. Sick and all but that's all it is. Just another mtb circle jerk.
  • 1 1
they sell it as a slopestyle? Why is FMB freeride world tour and not Slopestyle world tour? Coz they sell it as a free ride obviously , and of course is NOT free ride, is slopestyle. Then the real free riders, the ones they ride freeride and not slopestyle, are f*cked coz they not on the Freeride world tour coz they don't ride slopestyle events that they at the Freeride world tour. @makripper And kids are getting redbull helmets as a freeriders when they slopestylers (most of them they don't even have a full suspension bike), thats why I'm stoked to see a real freerider as makken being added on the redbull team.
  • 1 0
It's 'freeride' because it's more than slopestyle. If fest played their cards right instead of bashing FMB, im sure they could have been part of it. Fest is more like fmx than freeride. Ramage is the only thing that resembles freeride in comps, crankworx whistler does too, but not as much anymore. I think redbull sponsors athletes by local area and exposure. Nick beer is sponsored by redbull but is midpack at world cups. In switzerland he's national champ. Know what I mean? Danny macaskill rarely rides a full suspension and I'd consider him a trials/freeride rider.
  • 1 0
Ps. I'm stoked to see makken get hooked up too. Dude worked his ass off.
  • 2 0
well, its your point of view on that and i respected. But for me, the guys they riding fest series (Even if you don't consider fest as freeride…) are the ones that they really ride freeride everyday instead of bmx stuff with 26" wheels and normally are the ones that are getting less attention on this horrible mtb industry. Fest is not called Freeride world tour for something, coz they respect the real freeride, FMB is called freeride world tour coz they don't give a f*ck about freeride and they just wanna get money of it. Thats for me the difference between Fest n FMB. Riders pushing the limit of our sport VS organizers getting money of the little tricky kids using the freeride name to catch more attention to the sponsors, all fake. @makripper

 Haha "26/7", PERFECT!!!

Kinda feel like the double flip guy shoulda got something. Like the "Uncharted Territory" award or something. Yeah Bizet did one @ NK on a DH, but that was just on a big bike, not on a big jump. Motos & sleds had double flips before DH MTBs. Bizet's was over a small table. This Fest guy got all MX sized about it & probably should get something for that. It's gnarlier than a front on a bicycle IMO.
  • 5 0
I’m not sure I’d describe Bizet’s as ‘over a small table’. Sure, this double flip was big and should (probably will) be recognised, but Bizet’s wasn’t small either.

Either way, I reckon Bizet should ride one of these events. I put him in the same category as Sam Reynolds...can throw huge SS tricks, but is really at home on big jumps on a big bike.
  • 2 1
Bizet wants to ride in Fest series, they just don't let him in.
  • 1 0
 ridethree – really? How come?
  • 3 2
Bizet begged them but they said no, he threatened to smash the place up and went absolutely bonkers. No matter how hard he cried they didn't back down. He tried puppy eyes, he tried yelling that he hated them, he sobbed and pleaded but he just wasn't allowed... Parents are pretty strict in France these days.
  • 1 0
 double back-flop...ow
  • 2 0
@ridethree, are you sure about that ? why wouldn't they let him in ?

because Bizet and Pescetto seem to be good friends, and Pescetto is one of the guys at the origin of fest series, so..?
  • 1 0
Aggy said it in an in an interview in a german mtb magazine
  • 2 0
Crikey. Seems pretty harsh. Was there any actual reasoning?

Had the pleasure of meeting Makken at the FEST stop here in kamloops last year and bullshitted with him again this year for a bit. Such a rad dude on and off the bike. So stoked RedBull picked him up, the viking deserves it!!!

Great report! thanks. If only this guys have the #enduro budget.

 Makken on Red Bull= legit!
  • 2 1
They are the real picture of pure freeriding
