I've been going to Royal Hills for a couple of years now, they are close friends and I helped them out a lot with the building of the MX tracks and the bike tracks etc. They kinda let me build whatever I want to build. These lines where just sitting there waiting to be filmed. I built the lines two years ago. We filmed it before but I had some unfinished business with this spot. Last year I made a lot of changes to the line and I added a couple of new features. I really wanted to reshoot the lines and what's a better way to do it than to invite the FEST crew. Riding these lines alone would be boring so I just thought let's turn it into a FEST. -Nico Vink |
A big Thanks goes to everyone that helped out. I could not have done this on my own. All the guys that helped digging and watering; Piere, Paul and Stoica from Royal Hills for letting me do this on there land. Scott sports for the backup, All the filmers and photographers, Gaetan / Shaperideshoot, Nicola Pescetto, Trond Hansen, Lisa Paarvio Photography, Hector Bicycle Nightmares and ALL the riders that came out. -Nico Vink |

Not just for verification, but to see how the comments & votes go. Where are all the no helmet haters now? Ya buncha fvckin' buttnuts!!!! Any time a BMXer is seen not wearing a helmet all the MTB pussies on here piss themselves in a rage fit but a guy sends a 250 lb. MX 60+ feet without one & he's "got massive" balls? Ô.o Can't argue there. Got a tiny brain too.
When you're that famous in a sport, you HAVE to show the example.
Coverage:
Photos were good. The writing was incredibly lacking... No real stories from the event; a serious lack of captions on each photo (even of who is who while in the air, riding, etc.). Overall this coverage seems as lacklustre as the media hype around this particular event...
I'm sure it was a cool venue with a cool group of dudes but 1 bike check, next to no storytelling, and no rider history/commentary/interviews on the terrain or the place or the vibe of the event. How long did it run for? WHERE EXACTLY WERE THEY? Who's yard is it? What's the f*cking story? Don't tease us with images and leave it up to the readers fill in the rest... because I don't know about anyone else, but I don't care enough to fill in the blanks. "Clicks back to Homepage".
And is it me or did it seem like there were only 4 other mtb athletes in this? Sorge, Maaken, Lacondeguy, KJ (and Vink, of course)... Maybe PB coverage could explain why the field was lacking or how the awards are given (criteria at all or do they all sit around singing kumbayah and pat each other on the back and give each other a Gold Star?)
But you're right there's a lack of story telling.
Yes it would have been nice to have a bit more substance to the article but I'm sure someone worked pretty hard just to bring you the photos so maybe next time you could be a bit more diplomatic with your comments.
