Even though he's technically a unicycler, he shouldn't ever be considered in the same group. When he holds his own nuts, you know its going to be gnarly, not some stupid spinny doo-dad off a bench.
Everybody breaks a law sometimes but this guy is just dangerous I bet his crew will set a city on fire after he gets hit by a car or arrested only because he's black.
props wasnt enough. well said. You nailed it. This kid is intentionally causing terribly unsafe and awkward situations for all other road users. That's NOT COOL. It's sad as a cyclist to see this.
its funny how all the non-NY'ers comment on how it doesn't effect others particularly traffic, pedestrians, etc. I've personally seen this crew literally take over the streets/highways in ny and its not fun for anyone else but them. seem fair? now his skills on the other hand....sick. very sick. but its just the wrong way to demonstrate them especially at the expense of everyone else trying to get somewhere. like a job they have or an emergency vehicle trying to get around traffic to save a life or put out a fire without being impeded by the stunt show. not practical imo. i live out here so i can relate. not just speculate. it also gives all the other cyclists a bad rap where they bunch us into one rowdy, non-compliant, rude crew. then trails, bike paths, and designated bike lanes in streets get shut down. a loss for the cycling community. think of the BIGGER picture.... I'm not hating at all, just saying...
Well put - when watching the video, I can't seem to get past the fact that driving, walking, or biking nearby this guy would be incredibly frustrating and dangerous. Sure, he's got skills, but he's likely angering everyone he passes, particularly when he swerves in front of them.
Not to mention he puts his hands on a few vehicles... I don't care if you're white, black, red or yellow, I'm gonna lay someone down if they put their hands on my ride. Skills for sure, but it doesn't supersede the fact that he ignores traffic and safety of pedestrians. No room for these types of videos on PB. You Canadians are better than that....
Thank You Fredro! I work around where he rides at and I live close by, those kids are big jerks. That crew is no good, on or off the bikes. People over seas don't see the problem. They are a gang "blood members." Trust me they are not cool they would jack any bike from anyone here on this forum.. Im sorry to say that those amazing skills are wasted on someone like that. They will step on your car, ride on your car and don't give a hoot. If you don't believe it go hang out on 8th Avenue and 155 to 154 street in Manhattan. I would lock them up if given the opportunity.
are you seriously doubting on: "because he's got skills (which he hasn't because doing wheelies is the lamest shit a five grader can do) then it's ok for him to completely disrupt traffic and endanger everyone around him" just pathetic, this guy is an accident about to happen.
What is that even supposed to mean? Maybe he practices on his day off and after work? Have you ever said that about anyone else who does tricks/BMX? He rides dangerously but it's also dangerous to back flip over a canyon but I don't see anyone criticizing Red Bull Rampage riders.
how is what i said racist? did i say anything about the color of his skin or his race? you all are the ones who are racist by automatically assuming that what i said was racist. if this was any other dude, i would have made the same remark.
also, brandon semunuk is not doing wheelies and backflips on city streets in front of cars. he competes, gets paid, and has sponsors. that is his career. this guy is just a hooligan doing wheelies on city streets and endangering himself and others around him with absolutely zero f*cks given.
Not my opinion, but a lot of people who are racist think that people of color have no jobs and are wellfare suckers, which obviously is not true. people took your 'joke' the wrong way, you can put 1 and 2 together and figure it out.
Typical guilty white people. So phony, one person makes a comment and all of a sudden the white knights have to come out and shame, as if they only have pure thoughts.
Yes, your original comment would not have stirred all this up HAD you said it about other races... but you didn't. You said it about a black man in a public forum. The concept that ANY man would be more "successful" in life if they spent less time fooling around and more time working is true.
But then why are you posting things to a bike website, instead of working hard at being a better person? Were you bored of posting homophobic & racist remarks alongside all your "no-one-understands-me, I'm-an-overprivileged-white-kid", threats of mass violence? Because isn't that what all overprivileged white people do when they are frustrated?
See what I just did there? I don't even need to know what color your skin is, I KNOW WHO YOU ARE, without ever even meeting you. Funny how assumptions. You either didn't know you were making a racist remark (which makes you insensitive to the widely accepted cultural priorities around you), or you knew that you were making a racist remark (which makes you a bigot) and you hoped no one would challenge you on it.
The point is, educate yourself to what's deemed acceptable, or accept that you're a bigot and keep that ***t to yourself.
WOW...White privilege at its finest. I have never read a comment like this about any white person featured in a edit for enjoying and love to ride bikes. The next time some of you guys look in the mirror (you know who you are) you look at the face of what racial oppression is today. I will leave you with a quote, however white privilege will probably prevent you from understanding even though pinkbike poll list a majority of the forum are college graduates, but never the less. “In America, we are culturally conditioned to believe that (anything) Black is inferior and white is superior. And the manifestation of that cultural conditioning is that blacks are underestimated, undervalued and marginalized in every aspect of life. At it’s core, I think this is the essence of racism today". - Joe Madison
context? the context here is a guy who clearly has too much time on his hands and you went off on a tangent about "white privilege". please, explain to me what you consider to be white privilege in this day and age. because i'm white, i work my ass off, and i don't see any privileges that aren't afforded to people of other races who do exactly what i do, work their ass off. so get the f*ck out of here with your white privilege bs.
Oh so anyone who makes bicycling videos has no job? Maybe doing wheelies is his job you F****** idiot. Notice the SE Bikes shirt and the SE bike hes riding. @novajustin, you can't dig yourself out of this one- What you said was racist and stupid. Man up.
Hey novajustin that was a Racist comment and you know it, so don't sit there and act like it was not, and this kind of behavior will not be tolerated in the mountain bike community or any bike community for that matter.
I hate to say it @schofell84 but the rest of the world often makes fun of America BECAUSE of the over the top nationalisim that is sometimes promoted by the media and internet. (Just my observation, not my opinion).
That might be true but guess what when all the other country's want some kind of help with war or with terrorist weather it be foreign or domestic guess what country everyone calls on? big bad USA.
Classic modern racist. Immediate play the victim, talk about how hard you work, etc. Sure, there's nothing overt in your comment, everyone just hears your dog whistle.
So true ^^ SkipWorkGoRide, but guess what novajustin Yes he is Black or African American to be politically correct but he can wheelie better and probably ride better than you and is getting more exposure than you ever will so how do you feel about your tiny insignificant life now? your lower than the person your being racist about smh, i will mail you a box cutter so you can slit your wrist.
we are all missing the point here. we shouldn't be promoting a bike thief! hahaha there you are, that's a racist comment. what novajustin said could be applied to anyone, the racists where the guys claiming "OMG what a racist pig" when the comment had nothing to do with the skin color of the rider, the equality defender where the ones to assume that the comment was because he was black
@everardo hooligan: a usually young man who does noisy and violent things as part of a group or gang. hooliganism: rowdy, violent, or destructive behavior
now tell me how either of those definitions, aside from being violent, does not apply to this individual?
@ novajustin. "i don't see any privileges that aren't afforded to people of other races who do exactly what i do, work their ass off. so get the f*ck out of here with your white privilege bs." 1. You are not speaking of other races, but of a black person. 2. The comment above is a direct element or correlation of "white privilege", in brief, it is a belief among whites that privilege is afforded to all because it is afforded to them, and that belief supersedes true realities/statistics. If you want to learn something and help end this cycle of conditioning read a book, maybe White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son or The New Jim Crow.
I think that we ALL should be judged by the content of our character and not by the color of our skin. @ finalgear: So now a good life is all about doing wheelies, riding better than someone else and getting exposure? Feel better about yourself now after marginalizing novajustin? Regarding the box cutter comment, You are straightforward more negative than his implied comment. In the overall scheme of things, we are all pretty insignificant...but everything.
@DrthVadr, once again, I never said anything about the race of this guy. All I said was "this dude". YOU are the one who made it out to be about a black guy. YOU are the one who is continuing to point out that he is a black man. As children we are taught to ignore the color of one's skin. If this was a white dude, asian dude, hispanic dude, or ANY other kind of dude on earth I would have made the exact same comment.
Maybe your comment was innocent and maybe it wasn't. Yes, you didn't say anything about him being black, but it's the words that are used to describe a group of individuals is that's harmful.
@ novajustin, it's called implied implication: An implication that leads the reader or listener to draw a conclusion about something that has not been specifically stated. This is a common practice used to cover up racist rants and deflect true intent. I am not saying that is you, but rather the a average pun that a vast majority of whites do subconsciously without malice daily. It is only "wishful believing" that you think you would say that about anyone, but this is me generalizing.
To everyone saying about him not having a job he is a courier so riding around doing his job also lets him practice his wheelies and he also has just picked up a sponsorship from se bikes
If SE is sponsoring this dude they should make it known and take responsibility when his S hits the (radiator) fan. I also didn't see him delivering packages in these videos. Still its not cool to assume his stuff is stolen.
I did see him endangering a lot of people. I see this first hand nearly every day on the streets of Baltimore (bicycles and motorcycles). I think we need some bike parks and motocross tracks in our cities, but then again ...
Go to his block what the hell go ride with his crew.. Polo grounds Harlem Nyc west 155 and 8th Avenue... Just cuz your work don't make you a better person he got to eat. Im not talking shit. I know what they about selling crack taking sell phones etc.. don't forget your bike if its nice enough. I would love to see you foreigners come and ride over here.. lmfao.. They take over the streets in stolen motorcycles and bicycles.
@Msavage10299 what exactly is your point ? I watched their other videos,i know what they are about and believe it or not we have feral youth in the UK , who sell crack, steal cell phones. The USA hasn't got a monopoly on it.The only citizens who have guns over here are the criminals.
Sure, say that the next time you see a bunch of flat land guys riding street in the open city and landing to flat on sidewalks or into traffic. Your jealous cause you can barely ride in a straight line.........
AND STOP FUCKING HATING, BITCHES!!!!
Cause it is the Police in america:Fat,lazy, corrupt and always with a Pack of donuts equipped. Every normal Police guy would have told him that he is a danger for the Public traffic
People drive more carefully in the USA. This is why it looks crazy to us. Notice cars passing the streets with approx. 20km/h. In Poland it is practicly more than 70km/h and I remember it is similar in the Check Republic.
I am not talking about skills, but about speed. In Poland people drive much faster in cities. This is most visible watching alleycat videos. Riding bicycle along streets in my city you are always being overtaken by cars everywhere and missing you by few cm. This way it is either a bike lane to choose or sidewalk.
The American drivers to watch out for are the distracted/oblivious ones. Some teenager will feel a funny speed bump while texting (or putting on make up) and see him flattened on the roadway in the rearview mirror.
That's an impressive way to make your front tire last longer but by the end of the vid I was really hoping for a big crash, car pile up or at least some road rage from getting stuck behind that asshole and his crew.
^^ and he also appeared to be on his way to a call, as he had his overheads on. Cops aren't going to stop for some d'bag blocking traffic on his bike if they are on their way to an emergency. Besides, I am not real confident with the police in Germany, either. It makes me real nervous to see one standing around playing with his submachine gun out of boredom.
This was supposed to be a reply to Yt-shredder in above post.
lol, if he was really skilled he could ride perfectly in traffic, on the rear wheel, without swerving around and nearly hitting people, like a drunk/high Bieber, behind the wheel of an Enzo, on Miami Blvd. Nasty skillage, but he should probly start using some common sense before a large vehicle treats him like a road-bump. Video is deliciously ghetto, but should come with a warning not to be that guy. I'm with Tmackstab....... 'Merica. Hilarious.
The riding is impressive, but at the same time it gives cyclists in general a bad name/rep. No helmet, reckless riding into oncoming traffic, disobeying traffic laws, rude lack of social skills, etc. I live in NYC and I've seen these guys literally "hijack" the streets/highways and disrupt traffic flow, creating absurd traffic and unsafe conditions for everyone. It doesn't make sense at all. Wasted talent. Smh...
first off, I'm not rich. secondly, I'm not white. don't see how either is relevant. my comment on his lack of regards to others in terms of traffic is what i was talking about. reading is fundamental.
@StanMarsh....nice of u to stick up for what u think was being racist, but don't be racist in return. Maybe ask a few more questions next time to find out where they are coming from before jumping to conclusions...
some grimey nyc shit. mustve been before those dudes beat up that guy on the west side highway. cops were cracking down on stunt bike crews, and people riding outside the bike lines. sometimes they park a cruiser in the bike lane, and if you ride around it you get a ticket for not being in the bike line. it's like 150 dollar fine too.
Last time I checked. I think it was the last Friday night and I was amazed by the atmosphere of a square in my town centre. I stayed there for a while riding around to learn it is about 50m limit for me now. My top score is 800m, but it was long time ago and it was on a hardtail. It is definitely more difficult to do this on a heavy downhill bike, or any full suspension frame which balance is influenced by rear suspension movements. Rear brake should be very sensitive, with a precise feel. Saint ..810 brakes don't help much with their immediate stopping power.
I can wheelie for about 1km sometimes less sometimes further, took about a year to learn, hard to learn, easy to perform. However I don't play chicken with buses.
As cool as this video apears it's easy compared with what DH, FR and slopestyle pros can do.
haha best thing is challange a motorbiker to do a no hand ride, see who lasts longer, he can't pedal like us haahahaha. Good skills, but not my type of wheelie that gets me excited
Clicks Video

@bkm303 There are two ways of staying up long. First one, body leaning forwards and backwards and the second one, you pedal stronger when you want it up and brake rear wheel a little bit, when you want it lower. So whenever you feel it is almost like flipping over backwards, just use the rear brake. Heavy braking can save you even when your shirt touches the ground. It all depends on speed and momentum, but it is possible. I sometimes put myself into a difficult situation when I hold something in my right hand and lift the front wheel too much. I can only leave my pedals and jump back to stay safe. It usually ends very low on my feet and still holding the bike.
This bike has a rear brake. It is probably a V-brake or something older. We are used to looking for rotors in judging if there is any brake.
Motorcyclist can brake rear wheel with a rear brake (right foot) or decreasing engine rpm with right hand. The second type of braking is more gentle, this way more usefull in wheelie.
To wheelie a motorcycle kids refer to Doug Damokos. Kawasaki's wheelie king from the late seventies. I have his book somewhere actually. His mighty feathering of the rear brake inspired everything wheelie related. Timing coincided with wide spread adoption of free wheel cassette hubs in bmx racing thus letting us do 'coaster wheelies' which evolved into manuals and then brakeless manuals.
Great to see some attitude from this guy to wind up the PC care bears but his skills are a little bit state of the art 1987.
The reason the moto is so vertical has to do with the fact that there is a heavy engine/gas tank/fork etc. creating a different balance point with the rider weight. Slide some 25lb. plates on your bars and see...ouch! Leverage man.
Hey Enduroelite why do you presume people on this site can't wheelie? You are vastly underestimating the global skill base as well as probably how long folks been on the back wheel. I've seen most of what he's doing in 84/85 done on bmx's by guys smoking ciggarettes. I've been spreading the gospel of manuals and coasters myself since 94. Get out on your bike and don't doubt your ability to learn something .
Try to learn it. It is really usefull when offroading. The first thing to learn is to lift the front wheel with fingers ready to brake. The second thing to learn is to lift the front wheel with arms and pedal stroke at the same time. Third thing to learn is to be able to brake the rear wheel when you are too high and pedal stronger when you are too low. The rest is practice.
The amount of time that you can pull a wheelie or a manual doesn't denote if you're a good rider or not. I am a very strong rider, many of the people I ride with tell me that I'm faster than I think, but because I don't race I just don't concentrate on certain aspects. ( I like having fun! ) I know people who jump really well and do all types of shit in the air, but if you get them in a rock garden they flat or on flat corners they wipe out, both of which I am very strong at. Wheelies aren't the be all or end all, just a part of the discipline. BTW people say a lot of dumb shit to me about MTB. I've been doing it since I was 16 and I'm 42 now ( still look like I'm mid 20s')
Racism doesn't always play any part in it but most of the time its people who feel intimidated by ANYONE, and those are the ones with low self esteem. So low that they would believe, "Well he's black, how long could he have been riding for? What would he know about the sport?". As I said earlier HATERS GOTTA HATE, and to anyone that hates along with them, you don't have much of a spine to stand on your own, now do you?. The funniest part about this is; most of the people I know who can do stuff like this, cant keep up with me, black white or any shade in between. But I still like to see them ride wheelies through heavy traffic.
I am reading your text and trying to understand your point in the background of our earlier conversations and this way I can only conclude that being able to wheelie is not really necessary. It is just helpfull. Furthermore I ride for more than 20 years and I have serious doubts if I could ride any average difficulty trail in Cannada.
I have a finger on the back brake 90% of the time in traffic, on trails, jumps etc because it keeps me from getting killed and... oh yeah, wheelies too! Not on the fixed gear though lol.
It is only worth to take fingers off brakes during an uphill, but it is not even always, because there are situations in which it is safe to brake in some uphill sections.
I often ride without a finger on the brake, I've adjust my levers so that they are in a very accessible position on my bar. That way I taught myself to not "over brake". Great way to learn is to ride DH without a chain, that way you learn hoe to be comfortable at speed in rough sections (cause you cant peddle your way out )
I think its something everyone should try a few times a year.
People like to have levers very sensitive so just a tiny touch brakes a wheel. This is how it is easy to overbrake. When I bought shimano brakes I set them just like that. Now I have them set with wide lever stroke so it is harder to gently overbrake. We can exchange opinions, but it all depends on riders preferences etc.
Well, I don't know what "Strava" is, but I assume it is in Canada, so it is not very likely you will see me there soon. It came out I break to much law to be allowed there easily. The Levy guy provoked me, to confess things in comments under one of his articles. I think it was a planned act of intelligence interview, or sort of.
jedrzeja, www.strava.com if you have a smartphone, you can map your favorite runs, it gives you your times and compares it to anyone else that is registered. I was King Of The Mountain for a whole summer, then everyone else caught on.
now I'm somewhere in the 30th place or something. LOTS of fast people out there!!!
I don't have a smartphone. I rarely use a phone at all. To be honest I don't even remember when I left it. It should be somewhere around. Probably the battery is out and it will be difficult to find it.
Still not a pity. The trails I ride are known to me only and I don't want to share them, because of safety.
This guy need a The New York Fahgettaboudit , Designed to be the ultimate lock in the Big Apple where they have the highest bike theft rate . No time for stolen bike , keep wheeliein.
Best i managed was six miles and where was the no handed wheelie?! even i can manage that!, dude is proper good though, and keeping it real for se racing!
Some US cities like Chicago bicyclist have the right of way, which allows guys like this guy to ride how they want.
The cops can't do anything to him unless he's damaging property or posing a real danger to the public, which is very arguable in this case he's not... So wheelie guy wins every time!
Hey, there`s something many of you don't understand from the vid, SARCASM!!
You notice the speed of the video, how he's riding in such a "I don't give a shit about nothing, maybe I'll go see what's happening over here " attitude?
At on point he's resting on the handle bars like he's waiting for the bus to get to the next stop.
Yeah he's riding in traffic, did you see any cars swerving to avoid him? Do you see him brake suddenly to avoid hitting pedestrians or do you see any hapless people running "for their lives"?
This looks like most of the flatland BMX videos that are posted on Pinkbike except, this guy is doing it laughing at the people who think their good.
If its an NYC stunt vid, then where is Wink1100 or JonJon and the boyz? How many yall know what I'm talking bout out there? How many Blox you doin???????
Novajustin.. Not everyone is Brandon Semenuk and grows up in Whistler, has everything you could ever want to ride in your yard. And I'm pretty sure theres a video of Semenuk mob in in the streets of Chicago "endangering himself and others" so save the hate and show this dude some respect for doing a wheelie better than you could ever dream of.
I can wheelie like this. All the coasting and limbless stuff too. Took me a whole summer back in the 80's, but I got it one day. I can tell you, the only time I rode in traffic like him was on a bet. Super late at night in a small town, well 2 small towns, on the 4 foot center line. Bet was for one McDonalds cheeseburger that I couldn't ride one from some road to a bar. It was about 5 miles. McDonalds was closed, so I never got my cheeseburger.
The issue with this guy is all the riding in traffic and that swerving thing he's doing. Sounds heartless, but he's probably gonna be dead soon or end up in a wheelchair for life. Better ways to showcase his talent, that's not the way imo... Oh and whats with the MX bikes and race prep supermoto's on public streets? Does the NYPD ever crack down on that?
HAHA! Dude owns a bike with a perfectly good front wheel, but never uses it, he's a legend. Gets respect from the kids, gets cheered by crowds as he passes, gets cat-calls from the ladies, rides with motorbike crews, is allowed to ride around b-ball courts in the hood DURING A GAME and not get his head kicked in. He even gets a free pass from the cops!
I'm pretty sure the cops ignoring him has nothing to do with the fact that he is black. I do find it quite odd that just cos the guy is black, nearly every comment string has some mention of racism in it.
Video you got to get is when he gets struck.... That will get him mad famous. Hmmmm even a legend. Brotha never going to do things the right way, cuz they don't have to follow rules like everyone else. Its cool to see him swerve in front of your grandmother.. You would be , GO BRO!.
I was expecting more negative comments from sheltered upper middle class white people. Like "Oh my, where are his social skills?" or "Where is his helmet?"
Right, because he summed up the issue of race with that comment. The dude did an awesome wheelie, the video just on Pinkbike has 14,000 views and is already viral elsewhere. Is it not popular? If you see race in everything you are the racist.

I think its something everyone should try a few times a year.
now I'm somewhere in the 30th place or something. LOTS of fast people out there!!!
You are welcome.
Dude owns a bike with a perfectly good front wheel, but never uses it, he's a legend. Gets respect from the kids, gets cheered by crowds as he passes, gets cat-calls from the ladies, rides with motorbike crews, is allowed to ride around b-ball courts in the hood DURING A GAME and not get his head kicked in. He even gets a free pass from the cops!
Dude rides a unicycle? f*cking loser.
Lol, it's a strange old world we live in....
