Baker's Dozen - 2014 in a Handful of Photos

by Tim Koerber
Going into 2014, all I knew for sure was one thing; I wanted to get back to traveling with my bike and my camera. I never planned to do a write-up about my year, but due to a pleasant surprise earlier this week, I found one of my photos in the Photo of the Year contest, so why not share a few of my favourite images from 2014? Thanks for looking.

POY submissions
The Yukon. I never imaged I would ride bikes in the Yukon. But I did, and it was easily the best decision I've ever made.

 Your favorite riders favorite rider to watch - KC Badger. Matty Aquizap testing out the first set in the Dirty South section while building the Dreamline course.
"Your favorite riders' favorite rider to watch" - KC Badger.

Matty Aquizap has to be the most stylish rider to watch, ever. Here he is testing out the first set in the "Dirty South" section while building the Dreamline course. I would love to get out and shoot more with the Credence Bike crew. Clint Reynolds, Matty Aquizap and Nutter not only build the best trails, they shred as hard as anyone.

The Yukon really does have some amazing trails.

Nitro Circus rider Jaie Toohey with a back flip tailwhip in the middle Dirty South set. Toohey was throwing down ridiculous tricks all week long. Unfortunately his massive front flip tail whips over the final set never quite came together in finals and he would finish the day in 12th.

The Shark Fin. A signature feature of the Dreamline course, it is one of the biggest features I've ever seen. Dennis Enarson was one of the few to trick over it with this huge tail-whip.

Squamish. What more can you say about this place, it really has everything. The people, riding, climbing, and kayaking are all out of this world. Here Dennis Beare gets his slab on after following a map drawn in the gravel.

 I lived in Carcross for a month and a half this summer and rode all over the Yukon, I highly recommend it to everybody.

 Do it. Probably my favourite place that I've ridden so far.

 @todayisthegreatest Do it! Look up Boréale Biking. They run a top notch lodging and guiding business. It was by far the best trip of the year, and the food they prepared was the best I've eaten all year. They also have deals with Air North so you can fly up with your bike relatively cheaply. It will be a trip of a lifetime.

 There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.

 I was wondering what time the sun goes down in whitehorse at solstice?
  • 3 0
 At the summer solstice the sun just dips below the horizon, it gets dusky for a couple hours but never totally dark. Land of the midnight sun

 By far the best map I've ever received, and one of the best on trail interactions to date. I'll remember it for years! Thanks for all you do @davereid! Hoping to explore some more out there this year.
