Lars N' Bars hits up Whistler with his modified Klunker. Coaster brake purists will be horrified by this video with the addition of disc brakes, but anybody who has shredded Whistler on an expensive full suspension DH bike will appreciate the ability to go full rigid.

I want a 30 sec Tippie bike check on this rig.
  • 14 6
you can t even speak 20 seconds about this bike:

no brakes
no derailleur
no shock
no fork
no shifters

Big Grin
  • 15 2
 pretty sure he has brakes
  • 9 0
yeah my mistake, a usual klunker has no propper brakes thats why...
  • 6 8
those trails are so smooth anyway, why would you need 200mm of suspension?
  • 2 2
It can get really gnarly really fast
For instance,imagine hitting 30 kp/h
Your suspension is taking twice the work

Now youre going for the big jumps
You stop the soft braking and hold on your bars, maybe you pedal once or twice
Now youre hitting 40kp/h

Big jump
Do what ever you want, a whip or tuck...

In the run to the jump you gain about 5 to 10 kp/h

You do a push, the bunny hop technique wich means that
Your suspension runs from normal 40% of work from the run in

Up to 50%
And I am talking of a 200mil downhill bike

Going with a trek slash wich totally looks like a session
You go with 160mil

You are likely to buttom out on the landings...

Turns and drops can eat up to 80% of the suspension

Suspensions are just a little help for controll its easier to go hit the 50kp/h with suspension rather then bikes with out suspension...

Fullys feel like flying, there is almost no direct force transmission

With all this being said
That dude got skills and balls
  • 2 0
Perhaps...my suspension setings are totally wrong and I have to go check em immediately
  • 66 7
you just went full rigid... never go full rigid
  • 35 0
Need to have real skills to go full rigid
  • 43 2
He better checks again his sag %
  • 40 5
How does he sit down with balls that big!!!
  • 43 2
Makes all those guys on dh bikes look like pussies!
  • 28 13
Most of what we see on those videos look like a bmx track, a rigid bike seems like thje best solution for Whistler nowadays...
  • 27 4
bmx tracks arent covered top to bottom in braking bumps.

Nothing more wrong... I wonder how about his health after riding on this rigid bike longer, does not rely matter where, as long as its not a concrete or hard flatten roads. Suspension bikes are not made for someone's whims, they have designed to keep Your legs, ankles, all joints to take less shock on bumps, and to keep you in good position all time.
  • 11 0
@PaTis its just a fun video dude. Chill.
  • 6 0
@Patis he's a downhill racer, and bike industry guy, and you're worried about his ankles?
  • 3 1
@Patis the main purpose of suspension is traction, not to spare your joints! That's why he's struggling on that corner were he takes his foot off. That being said if of course it makes life easier on everything else.
  • 1 2
@twozerosix I didnt know about that Wink

@aks2017 i know what You mean, but i see nothing to do such a thing for fun. Its just metter of my experiance with HT and full's. After 2 years on HT bike now i have problems with right knee, it preety sore to just wath this vid by me xD

@Brunaeus Yes obv thats true, main reason was not healt of rider but traction, but wev got more benefits from suspension.
  • 38 3
I forgot what i wanted to say. It's hard being old.
  • 7 8
I'm pretty sure you meant to say death and enslavement to the goyim.
  • 1 1
he he he, sorry but it was a funny response
  • 3 0
 @grimowen, you're pretty wrong...
  • 2 2
Your sheep not giving you the love making you cranky?
  • 1 1
@bliznyuk Hitler was right. Shepard's delight.
  • 33 1
Fact: Whistler brake bumps are actually formed by coaster brakes.
  • 3 1
Yep... Though luckily it didn't look like the brakes were used that frequently.
  • 32 2
FACT: This bike doesn't have a coaster brake.
  • 27 0
 I just klunked my pants.
  • 23 0
I got 99 problems but suspension ain't one of them.
  • 22 0
 Mad klunk in the trunk!
  • 8 0
 That's some Klunk Funk
  • 20 0
 Imagine casing with that thing.
  • 15 2
With a case that big, you might need a lawyer
  • 15 1
....GTFO I feel like a cannot complain about a bike built since that design. Makes me want to punch someone in the face. That was awesome. We have all fallen prey to marketing. A bike, any bike is for riding. So far, that video showed me the only limitation is me and or my riding abilities. I have ridden all those trails. That was sweet.
  • 2 0
 Correct
  • 1 0
Ok, now please someone do that on a roadie Razz
  • 15 0
My hands hurt just form watching
  • 13 3
Get this man a red bull rampage invitation.
  • 6 1
 FEST!
  • 4 0
 Only if he rides that
  • 6 0
650b, Boost, electric suspension and shifting my balls. If you can ride a bike (this does not apply to me), you can shred while having same or way more fun on a simple bike like this one. Awesome riding skills here!
  • 11 1
 how many flats?
  • 9 1
 No suspension No problem...
  • 14 1
 No teeth.

and no legs after longer riding...
  • 8 3
PaTis, stop hating man, why are you hating on this? His skills trump yours, his style trumps yours, he probably shits what you weight. Stop hating man , stop hating........
  • 2 1
For first im not hating i just siply think its stupid to ride on rigid bike in place sush a whistler, or any other bike parks dont even talking about DH trails. For second his and mine skills have nothing to my comment, and You even dont know how im riding so why comparing?
  • 2 0
This video proves that you dont need dual suspension high / low speed dampened vpp nothing to ride a bike at whistler.
There was a time when all you could get was a hardtail with a coaster brake and people still shredded.
Your previous comments show that your envious of something, you should not envy anything.
Give props where props are due, negative comments are not constructive and show that you are insecure with anything that is outside your comfort zone.
Pinkbike is full of little trolls looking to put others down, they should shut up, get back under their bridge and let others gap it.

Oh and yeah, he DOES shred harder than you, any day, anytime, anywhere, any bike, anyhow.
  • 2 1
Obviously You dont even need a bike, go on unicycle! But will you fill good riding on it?
Im starting on hardtail too, but quickly i understand that is a much better to ride on fully suspended bike and enjoy it.
The only thing im jelous is that i have no acces to whistler. DH is my hobby not way to live, and mostly im building trails, and riding on things builded by me, mostly.
Props are given even by me, becouse his skill is amazing, nothing to complain.
Another thing, you called me troll becouse i dissagre with something? So you tellin me to go with the flow and always be happy with everything and not have my own opinion? Im not troll becouse all my comment have teh couse, im not disagree to make you blood preasure higher, but to share my private opinion, post a comment, like everyone do, dsnt matter is it positive or negative. Even if im the only one person who not enjoy that vid, its still not making me a troll.
And at last whats the reason you always comparing me to him, you are gloat like you are him man.
  • 1 1
OMG!! I think you should look at the approvals to your comment, I'm not the only one to think this way. the caption to the video says:

" Lars N' Bars hits up Whistler with his modified Klunker. Coaster brake purists will be horrified by this video with the addition of disc brakes, but anybody who has shredded Whistler on an expensive full suspension DH bike will appreciate the ability to go full rigid. "

THE POINT IS..... He shreds, and he shows it. I can only imaging what he can do on a DH or dual freeride frame.

just stop hating man........

  • 7 2
Someone has to say it: looks like a Session? (Or are we over that?)
  • 1 0
No way does it look like a www.pinkbike.com/photo/1852607.
  • 7 5
cool riding and song choice, but who the hell filmed this? is the rider supposed to be out of frame 60% of the time? is that part of the janky 70s home movie vibe?
  • 7 1
Have you never watched a single Earthed video? When up close putting the bike or wheels in frame as opposed to the rider gives a better feel for the speed. When rider is in frame, you get a sense of rider focus and movement, but not how the bike is carrying speed or moving across the terrain.
  • 20 2
You know, you're right, I'm just not hardcore enough to understand.
  • 2 0
 Janky !?!
  • 1 1

  • 1 0
Ah, @pigman65, it is merely a punny reference to the original poster's pb moniker.
  • 4 0
I broke my fibula on my klunker. Those brakes offend me
  • 3 0
Just goes to show that you don't necessarily need 8 inches of travel all round to hit whistler
  • 3 0
 Rider > Bike. Always.

Most people don't ride as stylish and smooth with loads of travel.
  • 3 0
Brave or stupid... that was fun to watch.

Spent the last half of last season and first half of this season a rigid due to bike build complications. It sucks, but you get used to it, but never did I have to ride anything like Whistler. Dude is a wild man.
  • 2 0
I like me some Klunkers, but that right there sure looks like a "one and done" kind of deal....
  • 2 0
Everybody talks as if rigids are from days of yore. People do still ride them down hills...
  • 1 0
Lars puts his balls where his mouth is, which is not exactly healty but very impressive. Makes me sad my klunker's only duty is to take me to work. Fun commute though.
  • 5 0
I lot of people only wish they could put their balls where their mouths are.
  • 3 1
So much style on so little suspension!
  • 2 0
Old school style chill ride..... ahhh.....
