Taking the trip to the road, the chaps are thrown right in at the deep end in the Canadian freeride mecca of Kamloops. After popping up to Sun Peaks for a few days of berm ripping and back in Kamloops, Oe Nagan throws down a few laps of Rio to loosen up and decides on his location to take the flip to dirt, but how will it go?!
Some sweet single track ripping in there. I was hoping they'd hit some of the freeride lines around the area instead of two jump spots but then again dirt jumps aren't really my preference, although that one step up jump looks incredible. It was fun watching his attempts at getting the backie. The filming was pretty awesome also.
I grew up in the loops and head back a couple times a year. I make a point to ride Sugar at least once a season. It's the original DH trail at Sunpeaks (featured in the video) that after some recent love and with today's bikes is an Enduro (cringe) masterpiece. The biggest problem is if you ride it by yourself and go down you'll likely have to wait hours before anyone else comes along.
Rio is also great and my understanding is that the housing going up at the bottom is going to build a through-trail as part of the development. More casual riding in Pineview up behind the Costco is fun, with some excellent new trails built recently. Harper is still good though the "new-style" trail group(s) looking after it deemed it necessary to take out all the wood (solid or not) and it's a lot less DH-oriented now. I heard it may have been an insurance thing, but still disappointing... If you drive up to Harper you should stop and admire the Jah drop from the side of the road (I always do) - it's like viewing mountain biker Mecca.
My favourite thing is if you explore around Juniper/Rosehill you stumble onto these decaying lines and then realize - hey, I saw that in such-and-such a movie!
This couldn't be further from the truth, kpcc will be working on the downhill trails this fall and spring, and they will remain downhill trails.
That woodwork was junk and the ministry of forests wanted it gone. So given the choice between trails and no trails I think losing some janky woodwork is a pretty small sacrifice.
