Pinstripe D3 looks the best. Lets the carbon goodness show through!
  • 62 2
The helmet equivalent of a lingerie supermodel.. Lets you see just enough of the exciting stuff without being a slut!
  • 15 3
The new Carbon D3-s look different... They have an 80's flaire.. I liked the 2013 ones be-tter but the new A1-s and D2-s look awesome!
  • 28 21
I actually like Fox's offerings better this year.

Great, getting negrepped for having an opinion. Where would we be without Pinkbike..
  • 11 3
 Bonkywonky. Sack Up.
  • 1 2
Is there xxl, 64cm, 25inch size?
  • 2 0
I agree, CF is the best looking, but I prefer the previous pinstripe job. Glad I got mine last year.
  • 5 0
You weren't expecting a reasonable, balanced and accepting response were you? I mean, come on, this is pink bike...
  • 1 0
Technologically advanced aerospace carbon/composite shell construction. Dude! this helmet is the shit!
  • 1 0
Define 'aerospace grade'.. I once had a dirt jump frame by On One, which was made from claimed 'aerospace grade' steel and it was heavy as shit. Still a really nice handling bike but anyone can use that term.
  • 26 0
Those new A1's look a lot better.
  • 3 0
Those A1's are gorgeous. Too bad I just bought a helmet, might have to buy another one.
  • 2 0
I heard there's Aaron Gwin signature model coming
  • 2 1
 Its already out.
  • 26 5
Eww.. Im a huge tld fan, all my gear is tld and i stand by them 100% in terms of quality and look.. But damn tld.. U guys f*cked up on the d3 paint this year... Aside from zinks and the pinstripe II... The rest are notttt nice..
  • 13 2
For sure... I preferred TLD to Fox, but I think it is going to change. That Gwin replica looks like a really cheap paint (sorry). Please TLD, go back when you still were making the medusa series...
  • 3 1
Where you seeing the Gwin replica?
  • 2 1
 Check it in the site
  • 5 1
Uuuuuurgh, that's hideous. Why make a 'replica' when it's nothing like what the dude ever wears!?
  • 4 1
It's not a replica, its just a pro model.. But damn I'm glad i have an older D3.
  • 2 1
Plus the eye and wing on the side of the helmets that have that designs, they totally copied the speed wing designs from 2012/2013 and way less detail put into..
  • 4 1
@sam-rodda in response to your "nothing like what the dude ever wears"...I will direct you to an image of his RedBull helmet he raced in all 2013 season, and his signature model that he and Troy designed, keep in mind on his race lid, we are limited to certain use of colors (we couldn't use the purples and oranges that Gwin really loved)....but the nucleus of the helmet is pretty close? www.dropbox.com/s/rks8zepq33xosrl/gwin_insta.jpg
  • 3 0
 Medusa series for life
  • 1 0
@troyleedesigns, yeh, for sure that is very similar. And I seen on his Instagram post it sounds like he had a lot of input to the actual design, which is pretty cool.

I suppose it must be a bit harder when you got someone sponsored by Red Bull where you wouldn't be using the actual brand logos, but it's a shame cos that's like the main factors that make it a replica, IMO.

Do they not let you use certain colors either?
  • 13 5
I've been hanging on for the 2014 range as I wasn't massively keen on the choice of 2013 lids left available. However, I would rather go with the Fox lid than any of these. The Yellow Pinstripe D3 from last year was real nice but was harder to get hold of than rocking horse sh*t. Sorry, but I think most of these lids look worse than last years. TLDs were always the most comfortable to wear and the nicest to look at. Not any more IMO.
  • 4 6
Honestly, i think the Full 9 and rampage pro are far better than the D3. My full 9 is much higher build quality than the D3's i've seen/tried on.
  • 2 0
I have had a d3 and now a full 9. I love my full, super comfortable, light, and good looking. Only thing I liked more about the d3 was the ventalation.
  • 11 0
Gwins signature helmet looks like a toy.
  • 2 0
Has a lot of color but I think it looks sweet.
  • 7 0
i was hoping for Zinks signature helmet to be something between slayer/palmer/sensus theme , maybe next year.
  • 1 0
Yeah pretty boring for a guy who backflips the sender, but it does have the classic tld look.
  • 6 2
Wow someone hired a new graphics person, much nicer A1 designs. They look less like they were found in the 70s glam rock department.
  • 6 0
 That orange A1 is pimpin.
  • 3 0
Gutted. I was really excited to see these but i could not be more disappointed.. These all look sh@te apart from the Pinstripe 2. Could they have picked any more colours that clash! WTF!
  • 11 6
every year the get worse !!!!
  • 5 2
Yup! Somehow they are doing it!
  • 1 0
Massive step back from the TLD graphics department. Generally I look forward to their upcoming graphics but over the last couple of seasons things have gone very 70's, and lets be honest, not everything in the 70's looked good....
  • 5 0
coming to a bike park lift line near you......
  • 6 0
 I love TLD!!!
  • 4 0
Awful, but nothing will go wrong with the carbon D3 black which still look great every year !!
  • 1 0
I'm not sure I like the color schemes of the D3 helmets. I am a huge Troy Lee fan, I love their jerseys and shorts, but the aesthetics of these new D3's doesn't impress me that much. Personally, I like the new rampage carbon helmets a lot more than the D3.
  • 1 0
After looking through the entire line on Troy Lee's website, I like the red pinstripe II helmet the best. Its not a carbon version, but it is still sweet! Does anyone know what the safety is like on the d2 helmets compared to the d3 line? Do the D2 helmets meet the same standards as the D3 or are they not as protective as a d3?
  • 2 0
@fastjohn the D2 helmets meet and exceed all of the required safety testing. See our site for more details.
  • 2 0
Thanks a lot, looking like the turbo matte grey d2 will be my next dh helmet! Stoked!
  • 3 0
D3 feels sooooooo much better than the D2. If you can splash the extra $$$ to get it then you should. It feels like you got a roll cage round your dome-piece. Much better ventilation too.
  • 1 0
All the complaints about the paint..just sack up and have one painted the way you want it. TLD's paint department is great to work with and very affordable for the quality. They don't publish it on the website, but they can modify production graphics. I now have a blue pinstriped Palmer chrome with my own name instead of Shaun's, custom designed and fully cleared. And Troy even signed it before it was cleared!! Again totally worth it - just picked up a leftover carbon pinstripe that I'll be sending for some added color.
  • 1 0
I was excited to hear about these A1 helmets when they were came out, wasn't excited about the shiny gold helmet, but I got tired of waiting to get a new color, so I bought the gold. A few decals on it and its all good. Have to say, truly excellent comfort level with this helmet, best I have ever worn. Sweet new graphics, might upgrade when mine gets hammered.
  • 1 0
Neither paper nor internet magazines ever take safety helmet reviews seriously. Safety never gets considered. The articles are ads not journalism. This article is an ad that announces a forthcoming ad - the review that hasn't occurred yet.
  • 4 0
D2 with the yellow stripes looks really Clean

TLD steal their old designs back from 2005, but originals were imho better…

well... i think it's not stealing, more like "coming back to the roots", you know, it's pretty popular now.
  • 2 2
@wert1 You should try and see some of the helmets at a local dealer, sometimes hard to get a full feeling on a helmet from images. But you can also see multiple views of the helmets on our website www.troyleedesigns.com/bicycle/helmets Thanks for digging up some of the helmets from the past.
  • 5 1
It's hard to pick a favourite, looks like I'll have to buy one of each...
  • 2 0
Garbage!!!!!! WTF!! Come out with some Decent looking graphic"s!!!! This is pre-school standard at best.. Hahh Just lost my interest
  • 1 0
I like gwins and cams signatures but the rest I dont like tbh . I own a d3 now its a great lid but if I was buying right now it would be a fox or bell I'm afraid as none if these colourways do it for me.
  • 1 1
The black pin stripe A1 looks great!!
Do prefer the 2014 designs over the 2013, nice and bold remind me of the old Edge & Troxel helmets.
Not a real fan of the cartoony stuff might be aimed at the kids? I know Peaty has characters on his lids but when I think of great TLD helmet designs its the likes of Hill, Palmer & King that have that fast racer bad ass look.
The 2014 kit looks great and I'm going to buy new TLD kit & helmet asap, just need to find a good online retailer.
Nice work TLD!!
  • 1 0
I can't believe how many people are disregarding helmets based on paint. surely aesthetics should be the final and least important concern! if the best quality best fitting lid looked like shit I'd still buy it.
  • 4 1
Sam hill posted a picture wearing royal socks...
  • 2 0
I could post a picture wearing royal socks. As far as I'm concerned I highly doubt there's a clause in Sam's contract stating he must wear TLD socks at all time.
  • 3 1
stikman might have something to say about that
  • 2 0
They need to make a James Doerfling signature model helmet! His lid is so sick!
  • 1 0
Im sad to see the Peaty Sig version go. have had one since the day they launched.
Whats Peaty gunna wear for part of the season til you paint him something Stik?
  • 4 1
Good way to get rid of my extra money
  • 4 0
 Bye bye tax return.
  • 4 5
When will TLD catch up with the likes of One, 100% and Fox in terms of design clean strong lines and bold typefaces are the way forward. Personally I am pretty over their whole eyeball fighter jet thing. I mean what the hell is this www.dirtbikebitz.com/images/products/2013_Troy_Lee_Designs_Gp_Cyclops_Combo_Yellowpur.jpg and this www.racespec.co.uk/acatalog/14_tld_p51_combo1000.jpg
  • 2 0
Puddle, I don't think TLD will be copying those brands you mentioned anytime soon. And the gear you posted links to are from their moto line, not the bicycle line.
  • 4 0
Seems like you have something mixed up puddle, because tld has been on the forefront of innovation and everyone is just catching up/copying them as far as helmet and gear design.
  • 1 0
I don't doubt the fact they have pushed the sport in terms of their products but personally I feel their style is a little out dated. I would much rather (and do) wear something like this www.ridedirectcycle.co.uk/images/one-industries-vapor-stratum-race-jersey-2014-green-p1055-3319_zoom.jpg than the majority stuff tld make. If the stuffs moto gear or not I don't think it matters places like crc still sell it and I wear moto jt racing trousers and know plenty of others that do wear moto stuff.
  • 2 0
If you dont like it, then dont buy it! Nobody on here wants to hear this irrelevant, juvenile opinion that you keyboard monkeys come up with. Out dated??? are you serious? Tld makes the sickest gear out there and know how to grab the market. They make something for everyone. Some people like flashy and others like basic lines, but nobody likes these harrasing complaints about innovation. As riders themselves, they choose to cater to and support everyone, that is why the best riders in the world ride for them.
  • 1 0
You're entitled to your own opinion joepuddle. I am on my 5th lid and I don't ever see myself buying anything else!
  • 2 0
jberg18, Just because my opinion doesn't align with yours hardly makes it irrelevant or juvenile. I also wouldnt call my comments "harrasing complaints" I actually said I dont doubt the fact tld have pushed the sports in terms of products. ( i.e. the Cam Zink lid for rampage) And clearly stated and gave examples as to what I feel is a little outdated in terms of current trends. But Then again this is pinkbike god forbid anyone has an opinion that didn't go along with the masses.
  • 1 0
I don't like all the TLD gear line for this year, but my all time favourite will always be the green/black/yellow shocker gear.
  • 3 0
Oh whew, neon is no longer cool. Thank. Effing. God.
  • 1 0
Yes, this should mean that the 2012 models will have their price lowered even more, and I'm closer to being able to afford a D3!
  • 1 0
Try ebay, I just bought a brand new 2013 D3 (Pinstripe Black) for only 315 dollars, still in box and never worn or used. Even with taxes and shipping to europe, it's still nearly 150 bucks cheaper than if i would have bought it here in Austria
  • 3 0
Bring back the D2 open face!
  • 3 2
Fox and Bell win it for me this year, just not in to the pinstripes and the loud graphics
  • 2 0
Anyone know why Zink's helmet isn't carbon?
  • 1 0
I'm not liking the new paint-job on the new D3's the old D3's look some much better.
  • 3 1
As usual, really nice stuff from TLD!
  • 3 1
They look like NASCAR designs. AWESOME.

  • 3 0
 @pm148
This was a list for HELMET athletes, Troy Brosnan is required to wear the same brand as his bicycle sponsor. Troy Lee Designs is proudly the apparel and protection supplier to Troy Brosnan for 2014.

That red D3 :O ...this year their TLD designs are just awesome !
  • 2 0

  • 1 0
Any word on release dates? About to get myself a new brain bucket and really dig the red A1.
  • 1 0
The carbon helmet is made of carbon/polymer composite so why does TLD differentiate the carbon and composite helmets?
  • 2 0
It's to bad it costs $400+ for a tld helmet...
  • 1 0
Does this mean I can now get a D3 zapp carbon for a bargain? I hope so as I prefer em
  • 1 0
Dunno who is doing the colour swatches at TLD but these are hideous! Yellow and Blue?!?! YELLOW and BLUE! Really!?!
  • 1 0

  • 2 1
Yeah, i know I was just kidding.
The whole internet jumped on that story like a slut on a dick.
Troy Lee Designs does a great job at showing that BAMF side of Sam Hill, which is just awesome.
(By the way that kangaroo thing totally confirms that Sam is the BAMFest rider on the circuit)
