Video: Caersws Downhill is Back

In November last year, we heard the sad news that the Caersws downhill track was closing its doors. Caersws was first raced in 2004 as part of the Midlands Super Series and went all the way till 2014 hosting races. Caersws brought many downhill memories to many riders from rookies to elites and due to this people were sad when they saw that it had closed.


The tracks have been around since the dark ages of British downhill, and since day one have been maintained by local riders including, the one and only Rich 'Bobalong' Jones, the mechanic at the local bike shop. The tracks were known for being some of the best in the country, notoriously fast, technical and fun, playing a huge part in building the wealth of talent that Mid Wales and the Midlands produced over the years, and a place where you always could have fun and not get bored of riding there.


But now it's time to say the doors are open again and this time for good. An army of local riders have been working their socks off to get Caersws back on the racing calendar and to ensure people will be making memories there for years to come. As you could imagine after over a year of no use it was going to be a nightmare to figure out where to start, but the dig crew had a hell of a job on their hands to get one track up and running ready for a race weekend in just two weeks. A group of local riders Jamie Cruise , Matt Brown and Matthew Upson had to work their magic and get a group of diggers together and get the track up and running ready to go. One of the main problems they faced was that people wanted something different. The dig crew have been working hard to make sure the track isn't the same and to give people something new to try out and bring new aspects to the venue.


The field itself was the next big decision, the boys have been up there with the local farmer Ian, digging the new berms in the field. With the love of Caersws and the help of the local riders it is now possible for people to get out up the hill again and enjoy the venue for what it is. The venue itself now has an official Facebook page and Instagram profile pages where the monthly uplift and dig days will be posted. This will allow us to get Caersws the attention it deserves and hopefully get the backing of a race series there next season. Go follow @caerswsdh on both Facebook and Instagram.
