This past weekend saw a first for both Tracey Hannah and Andrew Neethling - racing, and winning in China at the Greenland DH race situated in Enping, Guangdong. The scene in China has been growing steadily for the last 4-5 years and we were proud to be invited to take part in this race, filled with local pinners and top riders from Taiwan, Korea and Japan who were looking to win big in Asia.

Upon arrival it was clear the organisers had put a lot of effort into the expo - signing sessions with throngs of fan queued up and a slick looking arena with lots of brands on show. Both Andrew and Tracey were unsure of the level of competition they might face so knew they would have to still push hard. With multiple events including the 2X (Dual racing), a Whip Off and DH it was a great chance for Andrew and Tracey to keep their skills sharp between world cup races, and for amateurs to race against their heroes.

When it came down to it, Andrew ended up winning every event on the schedule but was pushed hard by the fired up locals who could certainly ride! Tracey produced a fantastic run in the final to take victory by a clear margin and impressed the fans during Whip Off.

Andrew Neethling: “The fans were great on track, I’ve had an awesome time in China - the organisers treated us like royalty and it's great to experience a new country and culture and see how big the sport is becoming here."

Tracey Hannah: “The experience has been insane, I can’t believe what the country is like - it blew my mind how many spectators came to watch. I’ve loved it here!"

We loved being a part of this event and want to thank all the amazing organisers and fans - we can’t wait to go back!

 I realise it is probably mostly sponsor obligations but it is really cool to see more and more of the big names travelling around and spreading the love Smile Much better than a closeted, turn up for 3 diamond FMB events, then go in to hibernation stylee certain other big names tend to do Wink I can't remember who was interviewed recently, but they said they ride every contest and show for the young kids screaming "do a backflip" at every rider- now that is what being a pro should be all about Smile

 Jordie Lunn mate...True pro.

 yea man if your not on the front page of pink bike all the time why even be a pro rider? im sure pros only ride when they are filmed and the rest of the time they hibernate. hopefully that rider reads this and changes his life around.

 Maybe the reason the big names *cough* are so good is because they can practice in hibernation without the constant pressure of impressing fans.

 @pieters: truly upsetting the amount of hate on this website for that rider you guys are talking about, most consistent and easily one of the greatest riders ever, has done nothing but bring good recognition to our sport and at the end of the day is truly a class act. But I guess as long as he is on top, people are going to want to bring him down. I hope he reads these comments and it fuels his fire to stay on top.

 @jordankurucz: If this is Semenuk people are hating on its ridiculous!!! The man has the midas touch, he is probably not competig AS much as he has more things going on like more revel co productions or the rallying.
Grief for doing his own thing and not what the flock want him to do....fair play Brandon keep going!!

 hopefully people got that my comment was sarcastic. and i bet semunuk doesn't give a shit about these comments or losers who think pro riders are obligated to ride with them

 Glad to see that Pinkbike.com is not blocked by the Great Firewall of China (or are you Chinese posters using VPN?) It's going to be an uphill battle to get extreme sports to catch fire in China because they are quite dependent on social media for edits, extreme shit-talking, making connections, and news. Currently all the sites we take for granted in the West are blocked, including all flavors of Google, and Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WordPress.com, Blogspot, Blogger, Flickr, SoundCloud....the list goes on.

 I'd say that track was a good representation of China at this point... Man made (or child made) and over manufactured... Way too much wood with not enough roots and rocks!

 Well said! that's the current dilemma of China's DH development. The builder/designer might have seen many western video clips or movies, and they think wooden features would be cool, or international style. But they forgot that was a downhill race course, and most of the time, they can't get it right. The design and building are awkward for riders to ride on. I guess we still need some time to get the essence of this sport, in both "software" and "hardware" aspects.
