The landscape of the American southwest is an ethereal place. The cathedral towers, deep canyons, and crushed red dirt produce terrain with endless riding possibilities. One is only limited by his efforts to push further. Pedaling along the sun drenched plateaus and in the shadowed canyons, all while sleeping below the stars in the cool night, you can start to feel displaced from the daily grind. That is until the beer runs low, the skins begins to redden and you head back to civilization to refuel. The deserts of the southwest are like a second home for many mountain bikers, providing a sanctuary in the winter months as an escape from whatever ails.

The last few miles of the Porcupine Rim Trail are some of the best riding in Moab. No matter where you started, from Burro Pass in the high elevations to the lower rim, it all ends here, spitting you out along miles of singletrack adjacent to the mighty Colorado River. If you time it right you can have the trail all to yourself, free from the shuttling masses as the light fades.

Traveling south from Moab to Sedona there are many sites along the way. While these diversions are often bypassed to keep riding, we detoured off course and headed into the Canyonlands. We rested our weary legs and spent a few days off the bike wandering above canyons and sleeping under the vast night sky. As the days passed, we became restless as stopping reminded us that our purpose here was to ride.

Sedona's trails are an interconnected maze that weave between the giant sandstone formations that jut up from the landscape. Relying on your own ad hoc knowledge and not carrying a map and a headlamp can get you in trouble. Sedona’s sun-bleached days turn midnight dark as soon as the sun sets. The skies do not hold the amber dusk prevalent in most desert regions. After making this mistake more than once, we tempted fate by heading out late on the Hangover Trail. As the sun set and the trail disappeared beneath our wheels, we were left standing at the edge with no apparent route home. It took some local knowledge to point us down the faceless ledges of the final descent.

The endless vistas of southern Utah makes a person wonder about the trails out there that have never been ridden and are only known to a few rock squirrels and mule deer.

This is not a Yeti-promotion video. This is a biking-promotion video. Nice and I really miss Utah.

The "Proven here" video series never disappoints. They know how to - and always portray the feeling - the feeling of what it is to mountain bike whether it's in the backyard woodlands or large, endless, beautiful landscapes like this! I love their bikes and I love their marketing, I just wish I could afford their bikes!

 +1 for utah! trails errywhere

I love the video's that Yeti puts out, they really are inspiring and right now its inspiring me to quite my job, move to Utah or Arizona and become a riding hobo or busker. I'll sell vortex crystals or shine shoes to have a life like that, I don't care, just get me out of the rat race and onto the trails!

That is what the Yeti's "Proven Here" Video's do for me.

Agreed. Amazing video...one of the best in a long long time

So right, makes you want to get out and ride... really captured the feeling and made it look so fun.

Yeti's stuff is bigger than bikes & advertising: it's Nat.Geo. caliber outdoor photo- & videography. I've shared their best "Proven Here" segments like Iceland & the Kootenays with friends who are painters, climbers, advertising guys, snowboarders... anyone w/ a geniune passion for the outdoors or eye for visual art can connect with this.
Well done Yeti, keep it coming!

@dirtyrig then why don't you? I did, and would never look back. Im broke as a joke but can now live my life how i want to live it.
  • 1 0
@snipes287 I hear you man, its getting very close to that and it would be the second time in my life I've made a move like that. The first time was when I was younger and basically spent about 5 years living out of youth hostels throughout Europe bar-tending, hiking (MTB wasn't really a thing back then), backpacking and living the life, I was dirt poor but happy as a pig in shit!

I want there bikes so much more because I don't feel as if they are even trying to sell me something.
They're just like "hey here's some of the most killer trail riding around, and check out that million dollar view, by the way we know, that you know, that our product kicks ass, so anyways we're going to f*ck these chicks in a sedona out-house because we're Yeti".

Thats how most modern advertising works...
  • 2 0
I want THEIR bikes. Sorry had to correct myself.

That photo of the guy about to hit the double drop, that transition always gives me butterflies. The drops themselves are not bad, it is the hairpin turn right afterwards that gets you. You need to take it with some speed, and the second drop adds a bit more acceleration, then the trail just takes a 90 degree turn. I wish they had zoomed out in the video so I could see how they "handled" it.

Did I misunderstand, or did they say this was Porcupine Rim? I just don't remember anything this hairy on Porc. So maybe it's not Porcupine Rim, or maybe it's not as hairy as it looks, or maybe when I ride, I'm just not paying attention to how it looks and just plowing through without much thought. I do love the last 2-3 miles of Porc, though.
  • 3 0
Yea, that's not the porcupine rim trail, I believe that's part of Amasa Back after you get to the top and desend the back side down to the river. I think the trail is called Jackson Singletrack, but me and my friends call it "Death on the Left", lol...
  • 2 0
Yes, dirtyrig is correct. The video shows several places, but a good portion of the first part is the Jackson (Hole) trail that drops down to the river. If you look at the photos on Trailforks you can recognize it pretty.
  • 2 0
I did Jackson once, in the twilight of dusk. It's definitely not a trail to mess with.
  • 1 0
Yeah it's jacksons. Trail kicked my ass, doubt I could clear gnarly turn like they did

Yeti knows how to promote there products! Really love this episodes/videos!

After skiing balls deep pow earlier in the week, I think I'll head down to Moab for some 70 degree (F) weather and desert singletrack. Yes, there is nothing better than Utah in the spring.

 really nice edit!! amazing location!

Fantastic photos! Lucky who lives near a place like this and can ride those trails.

There is plenty of good beer to be had at the Moab Brewery (despite what the sub-heading says)!

Absolutely stunning photography. Not sure I've ever seen photos like this that really capture the atmosphere and what it feels like to ride around Moab.

Holy Mother of all fuck, that was an amazing!! I want to ride in Utah, I want to camp out after the ride in Utah, and I want a Yeti ASR now. Sold

Home sweet home. Incredible work. Damn Joey, back at it again with the white vans!

Southern Utah is my MOST favorite place to be on or off the bike. I go there all the time and is never enough, and feel very lucky to live just few hours away driving from there. One day I'll move somewhere there. Awesome vid.

 This. Is. Mountain Biking.

 Once again truly inspirational work!!

OK, I have to bring this up. In the first photo after the video with the title Southwest - Proven here. I know this drop has been used in lots of pics. It's also been used in Yeti's super nice catalog from back around '09, where I first saw this image appear. Anybody else see that perfectly formed image of a half skull just diagonally to the viewers left of the rider's (Joey) right elbow in the rock formations. Again, I've noticed for years but never heard any mention of it. Maybe it has even been named?? Still, pretty kick ass!!

That tent would smell like balls after a couple days.
  • 2 0
Probably had that smell way before.
  • 4 1
Bloody Nora look at that view. Something worth putting up with Fox News for.

Joey's edits for Yeti get better and better. Haven't ridden in Moab for 15 years and it brought back great memories.
  • 4 0
some of the best photos i have ever seen!
  • 3 0
Again, you guys at Yeti should give Joey a rise every year. Always delivered a nice edit or photos.
  • 3 0
Amazing cinematography, photography and riding. Some right proper exposure in all three!
  • 3 1
from a kid that has never ridden either i have to say this looks like way more fun than sloppy north shore
  • 2 1
It is definitely something every mountain biker should checkout. If you've every ridden north/north-east technical singletrack like say, Pisgah; Moab and Sedona should be easy flow.
  • 1 1
DONT EVEN SAY THAT... I live in Colorado and I would kill for some hero dirt
  • 2 0
Wanted to know how hard can I ride the bike without breaking it, now I know bike will not be the limit
  • 3 0
I had a 2012 sb95 last fall break on me. But mad props to yeti and my lbs... I'm now on a 2016 sb4.5 and I'm just itching to get out and ride. The yeti bikes are amazing.
