Never should be vod, poor video, poor content, no editing, if pinkbike are going to choose random things then at least post what happened to the guy. I think everyone forgets there are kids that use this site that may be shocked by this vid, especially if some are mentioning that he died.
It's good to remind people that you can get hurt on your bike, but not using the it at the expense of someone that may be seriously hurt or worse, just for a cheap laugh for some idiots.
Wise up pinkbike, if you can't find something decent, then maybe nothing would have been better.

doug, mtb is a dangerous sport, maybe its good to know that this can actually happen, then they are aware of it.

I think doug has a point here. This shouldnt be VOD. My gf was watching this with me and was shocked, so am I. I have some of surgery behind me, and I can imagine pain after that crash. PINKBIKE shoudnt pick VOD's like that.

FregoS, I'm not saying he did die but why is there "No way he died on this gap"? If it's big enough to paralyze him then it's big enough to kill him. Don't be silly, people die falling off and hitting their heads of kerbs so a 30' odd drop to flat with a bike in between you and the floor is very likely to kill you. I'd be more suprised to hear he walked out of this that died to tell the truth but you can never tell.

Shouldn't be VOD. Negative prop me if you want but when I wake up in the morning and sit down with some fish cakes to watch the VOD I want to get stoked to go out and ride or train for the coming season, not see a fellow rider eat it hard enough that he was probably for a few months. There is a time and place for these videos, but not VOD.

I agree to that, I love close calls or a few little crashes from time to time. Hell I separated my shoulder last season and am still trying to work it off, but I don't want to wake up and see some guy eat massive amounts of shit. There is no way that had a happy ending.
Unless he becomes a pro wheel chair basket ball player, meets the love of his life then learns to walk again and lives the rest of his life with a refreshed out look on life. 
there was a thread about this in MTBR, his friend wrote that he died because he landed on his chest and his ribs pierced his heart.. i think a pressure suit would have saved him..

nobody died or got paralyzed on the gap, that dude did get hurt pretty bad though, from what i remember he broke his jaw or some bones in his face some thing severe and needed surgery. probably ribs too but this was like ... shit 3-5 years ago? a few other people hit it with similar, but less catastrophic results, i think matt brooks hit flat and broke his fork. it was way too gnarly to be rideable, yet every weekend some hotshot would be teeing it up and we'd have to explain what happened the last three times someone hit it and try and convince them not to do it. it's been torn down now.
Everyone saying he died is an idiot, Benton is perfectly fine now, he broke alot of ribs and messed up his face. This is about 4-5 years old! I dunno how this guy got ahold of the video though, thats really random.

its called the hospital gap because hes goin straight to the hospital after that one. and i think its good that pinkbike chose this as vod, it gets people thinking about it, and taking the injury side of it more seriously. pinkbike cant control that you have idiots on here going "woah... huge crash, sweet!" .... look at the contoversy it sparked, it gets people thinking about what actually could happen if youre not careful, and that what they do in the movies (huge gaps ect, is in the movies for a reason, theyre pros, ect ect.

im really disappointed in this. A) this video is so old, i watched it years before i even got into mountain biking. B) the guy did not film it, its a viral video. C) and most importantly, the guy died. he's dead. gone. nada. zip. zilch...what a way to remember him. by posting his death as a video of the day.

I'f he had learned to eject from the bike before trying stuff that big maybe he would have been carried away with broken legs instead of everything....alway take as much precautions as possible when hitting big things guys...

totally agree. a friend of mine crashed like this and broke his collar bone, pelvis and vertebrae. I know that crashing is part of the sport but this doesn't make me feel good about mountain biking

ok im not an expert but ive seen freestyle motocross crashes much worse and most of the time people do survive the worst of them, i looked at this video and with the protective equipment he looks to be wearing i think he standed an ok chance of surviving but yes seriously hurting him self.
but this is just my view as for people who have said he puntured his heart thats a pritty strong chance because his chest looked to of landed on the saddle and with enough force that could of happend.

I lost sleep over this video, no not because it scared me, but because my friend Brett called me at 9:30 am on a Sat to tell me to go watch it.
My personal view on this is rider inexperience. we watch moutain bike videos all the time with hugh crashes.Allot of these jumps are done as a progression. A rider works up to bigger jumps and learns his or her limitations. its an unfortunate thing to see such a serious error in judgmental that can be a life changing. I really hope that the rider was not serously injured or died. Allot of young riders need to see the impact

everyone claims this man died, but i crawled the internet, kamloops, and a few other places for nearly an hour to find an article on any biking fatalities, but to no avail, I have come across nothing. I don't think he died. If he did, then thats horrible. Otherwise, stop making the argument that PB is terrible. I don't think they would post a video of a man dying. If you're argue otherwise, post a URL to back yourself up.
I am a kamloops local and I haven't seen this "feature" nor has anyone died from mountain biking around here. No way PB would ever show a vid of someone's death....that's more of a CTV, CBC, NBC, TSN etc thing.

That jump was the plywood highway on Rosehill, and nobody died on it. I'm pretty sure that was Matt Brooks in the video, and considering I talked to him a few days ago, he is very much alive and still filmimg!

ok im pretty sure that was a vid of a guy i know...he got really f*cked up and has gone through major surgerey and if its the guy i know he's still riddin hard!...just on a 4 wheeled bike/chair contraption because he cant walk anymore....he rips sun peaks in kamloops B.C. quite a bit i do believe and the jump in this video is on rose hill in kamloops
Epic Fail. I had sort of a similar crash a few years back, though not THAT huge. The worst thing is realizing that there´s just too much speed. But why he got off his bike is a mystery to me, staying on would have given him better chances at not getting hurt too bad.

I built this jump and no one died, or was paralyzed on it! He was very injured though, and needed some surgery on his face I believe. I hit it once after this and over shot it to flat as well, but pretty much walked away uninjured. It has since been torn down.

I'm not sure the name of the guy. I think it might have been benton but I'm not certain about that. I was actually riding the same trail the day this happened...just not with them.

That is the reality of an "extreme" sport. It sometimes can be dangerous, and people should be aware of the consequences. We don't see any violent images so as far as kids seeing this , i have no problem with that.

Everyone who watches this video will be awed by it, and the people on here saying it shouldn't be posted on here because it affected you is exactly why it should be posted.
This is the reality of what happens when the crazy stunts we see regularly in VOD's and POD's go wrong, we shouldn't hide from it.
