msa was awesome as always! we got some extremely dry/warm/hot conditions! and then i realized how much not in shape i am :p we hit almost all the trails exept the world cup one because it was to much destroyed to be riden.. (closed by msa stuff). i have few hours of gopro stuff...just didn't get a program/computer/time to put it all together! i'll probably go to an iron maiden show july 9 arount quebec and take a day off to ride msa again

I've just given props to the other guys' comments, and I love your zen philosophy of trail riding.

flag buspilot (Jun 10, 2010 at 11:04)
Thanks slackliner. At the risk of sounding like a hippy.. Riding chainless really felt zen-like to me as it kind of left me no choice but to flow 'with' the trail even more than usual on the descent. It also taught me that on the ups you have no choice but to get off and walk which was also a humbling experience. So yea.. a lot to gain from going chainless every now and again !

Real hippies do it chainless AND brakeless, http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5184134/ !!!

another great one! Do these trails in Japan ever end?! Smile

flag buspilot (Jun 10, 2010 at 10:50)
Cheers. Ha ! Not as far as I know. The mountain range undulates for a long way and as long as there are power lines nearby a well maintained access trail is also so pretty much guaranteed .

your self-filming achievements make me think more and more about buying GoPro camera... tempting...

For me its a pretty convenient way to document and share the ride.. compact, simple and robust.
No problems thus far. Would be interested to hear more about some of the other ones though.. Contour looks pretty good too.

Maybe you'll start a new trend: no chain is even more hardcore than single speed!

Thanks man. Yea, a chainless ride every now and again is very refreshing. Recently had a few chainless experiences as I repaired my chain without guide pins ! Got them now though so should be securely 'chained up' for a while.

What is that retaining wall system used there in the beginning of video? I dont see it any where else.........

flag buspilot (Jun 10, 2010 at 11:20)
Good question... I have no idea !
There does seem to be an abundance of different systems in use throughout Japan. Have seen many weird and wonderful retaining wall systems ranging from ugly concrete capping to really beautiful stonework and everything in between. A lot of creativity and experimentation going on as well.. would be great place to visit if your int retaining walls !
