$500 to the 1st female and $5000 to the first male? Was this award based on the participation of each category or is there that much of a rift in the equality of cycling events? So much for equality in sports...

This has been a subject of debate at this event for several years now. Some might say that there are relatively few female competitors, so it is justified. Others might say that the the risk involved is equal, regardless of gender, so it is unfair. Both are valid arguments. I guess it is all in your perspective.

i think it's vaild that the guys win more because the simple fact that there is alot more guys i'm not sexist i just belive the more poeple there r the harder it is to win therfore the bigger the reward should be but ya it does seem a liitle unfair

acctually now that i think about it it would acctually be unfair if both wer paid the same amount for winning cause if ther wer more guys than girls then it owuld be easier for the girls to win so that would kinda be giving them an adveantage so i guess it all kinda evens out

the 'number of competitors' argument may be valid, but seeing this won't bring more women to the sport, will it...

good vid. but yeah I was quite suprised by the 500 - 5000 awards but I guess you could argue that there is not nearly half the amount of women racing as men. but still thats a little cheap Razz

they should have it set up as a minimum payout to the winners for both men and women, and have it on a sliding scale the day of the race based on the number of entries in each gender class....thus the more that show for both men and women, the better the competiton, the bigger the prizes.
