The dog is a key component but the movie isn't about the dog. Without the dog this is just another riding video. The dog adds that element that gives the video the "day in the life" feel that they're clearly aiming for.

If you're going to call something old news because one element overlaps something else you've previously seen then you should probably quit looking at bike pictures and movies because riding bikes is so old news...
