Quick vid for removal of floodgate feature of Mission control (non DH) dampers. Increases small bump sensitivity.
I'd recommend this mod to EVERYONE available that doesn't use there lockout. Night and day different. Leaves you speechless with stained undies.
so whats the difrents? like exsplain to me what the benafits are? becase i kinda wanna do it to my fork
very nice! now is there a way to make the fork stiffer at all? with out changeing springs? but still keep the buttery smoth feel
can you do this to 426 Pikes? it has a floodgate on the lockout, but the knobs dont look like the lyriks.
Nice little video. I did this about a year ago on my fork and just did it on the girlfriend's. This was way easier than digging through 200 MTBR posts and going by pictures. If you have not done this, do it. I hope the girlfriend does not notice, or it will be one of those, "you did this to your bike a year ago and just got to mine" moments.
Wow i totally wish i had a bike bitch who knew as much as you do and who would be willing to do this and many other repairs and mods to my bike. It's an 09 Norco Hostage. You know it?
I just did it to my solo air 09 Totem it is 5-minute of work. and it is great.
Do u guys know how many oil is in the right leg of totems? i guess 5W ?

Great vid. Thanks.
More vids on mods pls!
Would love to see vids on modding internal ('fixed') floodgates, upgrading dampers in other forks, all that jazz.
Tx again.

Specific suggestions? Here are two.
How about adjusting a Reba Team dual air from 100mm to 80mm or 120mm travel?
Aftermarket comes w spacer and there is one inside already. No info on process though.
How about slapping a BlackBox damper - maybe from Reba - (modded if there is an improvement to be made), w poplock adjust, into a Recon U-turn?
Would prob need dif oil vol in damper leg. Perhaps whilst we're at it a dif weight oil would be better for a lighter or heavier rider than the SRAM design ideal.

Why do it? There are reasons.
RS don't make a fork w 2-step and mission control (like our Lyriks) that will fit on a 'normal' bike that 30yo ladies ride. My Mrs is not going to go big or ride a big bike like me. But she would still benefit greatly from 2-step above U-turn, from dual compression circuits in the Blackbox MC damper versus the regular motion control, also external FG, poplock adjust etc.
A lyrik is not going to suit her bike. And at 100lbs body-weight, esp considering her lack of aggression and relatively low speeds, she doesnt need 32mm stancs never mind 36mm! Or 160mm travel.
But she DOES ride steep rough trails (up and down) in real mtns....
2-step and Mission Control are both great.
There are reasons to do stuff like this.
Avoids buying a Talas until RS has a chance to provide a 2-step MC that does not force ladies to ride 36mm stancs and 160mm+ travel in order to get the same func as their other halves. Or to buy Fox.
Of course she is never going to get 2-step by modding the damper on a Recon U-turn! But it would perform better - until the two-step + MC does appear in a form factor that suits her bike/weight/riding.
A 32mm Stanc'd 90-135mm 2-step MC Reba. Perrrrfect (for her trailbike) whilst I enjoy the Lyrik. What is good for her is good for me, cos me and the Lyrik spend less time stationary waiting for her! Lol.
So, would like to mod the Recon if pos to achieve better performance. Well, at least external gate, (or mod to internal), pref dual circuits.
And the Reba is sitting idle without travel adjust. But, make it 120mm and it has a use on a project.
Thanks again. Love the Lyrik mod.

If we ever meet, beers are on me! The mod is easy to perform after watching the video.
There is no bad surprise. The fork is way way better now! THANKS

Wow can't wait to do this mod. The lower bushings seem to be going in my Totems, is this job possible at home? Tech Tuesday possibly?
I just realized you are the Tech Tuesday...
And I was looking forward to something I didn't already know

RideOn!

If I do this mod, does it reset my current hi and low speed setup? Or do I have to redo them again since the mod would change how the fork reacts? Thanks!
this mod rocks! dude I need a new fork. Oregon and Washington shredding have beat the hell out of my Lyric. Got any Totem Solo Air's lying around you may wanna sell?
The Lyriks fine. Changed the oil a few times, stanchions are pristine... stickers scratched from crashes here and there.
You should see Gordo on his Big Hit Grom, he cold turkey's every drop he can find lol. I always ask him if he wants to scope out the landing first and all I get is "Naa! I'll just do it."

Do I need to raise the floodgate adjustment screw back up after completing the mod? Does it make a difference at that point.

Doesnt have anything to do with the spring side, only damper. Theyre completely separate, so yes, this applies to ALL types of lyrik/totem, as long as they have the mission control damper.
Huge. Not as big as ditching that 2 step cartridge and going to u-turn coil though...same weight, just much better responsiveness.
Thanks man good to hear I looked into coil u turn but tf tuned charge 170 fitted and serviced so might try this for now
You should see it today... no neck beard and hair shaved off! Nobodys recognizing me. Incognito suckas!

Still visibly smaller when its not all swollen hahah, but gonna try to ride "DH" in the next few weeks... been training hard, so hoping for the best!
is that the one which is called the mission control dh or only the new rc2 dh? sorry to be exceedingly stupid...
