The final Coastal Crew Webisode is here and the season is winding to an end. After a great and very successful year we have decided it is time to change up our format and go a bit bigger with things.
Our final episode is about our life style and what we like to do for fun. Follow Mike Hopkins, Photographer Nicolas Teichrob, and The Coastal Crew around Fernie, Rossland and Silverstar.

You know that calling VOD doesn't actually affect a video's chances of becoming 'video of the day' right? Select mods have the ability to add photo's/video's to the VOD/POD list which is compiled over time. They stumble across something they like, they simply add it to the list and its in a que to run as VOD/POD. The reason Coastal Crew etc are likely to get VOD is that Pinkbike mods keep an eye out for users with good content (such as Coastal Crew, Karl Heldt, J Brantley etc etc). Building a good reputation like these guys gets you noticed, and friending mods doesn't hurt either.
Just thought I'd put that out there as it annoys me seeing 'VOD' on every other video from people who seem to think the comments all get tallied up and used as a deciding factor.

Just thought I would add that Bunkey is incorrect. Mods do not determine the VOD/POD. Most of it is an automated process driven by matrices (number of views, number of times faved, etc). I'm sure Radek and Karl can directly effect the selection since they code the site, but "friendly mods" has very little to do with it, if at all...
Actually, the 2 VOD's and 1 POD I've had in the past year have been from getting the content noticed by mods, not through some 'automated process'. I can vouch for that at least.
Being a mod myself, I can tell you that is likely not the case, but they (the mods you mention) may have shown it directly to the site admins. That being said, there is more to it than what you think...
I dunno like, I just messaged Jordan Holmes to see what he thought and he told me he'd add them into the VOD list - this to me insinuates there is a list compiled by various mods. I'm also familiar with the role of Interns employed by web-affiliated companies who file through website content to similar effect. It wasnt a total stab in the dark you see, but more to the point: Lets hit the play button and enjoy this killer webisode

Jordan is a site admin, not a mod. He has a lot more authority on their servers, whereas the average mod does not. Mods just enforce forum rules and etiquette. It would be far too time consuming to just have a handful of people cherry pick video and image input daily for VOD and POD. Way too inefficient. That's why servers have automated matrices that will show them what everyone is looking at on average per category, and THEN actually decide which one goes up from there. You do realize how much content is on this site, right?
i woke up this morning and the first thing i did was go on pinkbike and watch this video, great start to a day and now all i want to do is ride. Great VOD

It would still be very entertaining to put a bunch of top freeride guys (say Romo, Semenuk, McCaul,...) in a world cup and see how well they would perform I believe there would be some very angry wc boys!!

tripods keep shots steady. i doubt they use a steady cam though, it doesn't look like it. They use a canon 7D.
