If you use a bit of light oil on the fork/shock seals it 1. Pulls dirt out and 2. reduces friction

No worries, I do it to my bikes after every ride, just put a tiny bit of oil in the seal all the way round the fork, give it about half a minute then compress the forks, when they come back up I guarantee no matter how clean you thought your bike was there will be a little bit of cack left on the stanchions hah
