lux helmets don't stop concussions. your brain stil slams into the inside of your skull and gets f*cked. they stop you from busting your head open.

@brett236 - actually you are wrong. That is what the padding is for. They slow your head in a more controled way. Of course if you use a crappy helmet with no padding than yeah the protect you worse .

It still doesn't change the fact that it will still hit it. might make it so that you can take a bit of a harder impact that normal but you will still will get concussions. helmets were not designed to prevent them, only prevent your head from cracking.

Dude you have no idea. Slowing down your head movement in your helmet makes the change of momentum of your head more gradual therefore REDUCING the chance of concussion (which happens when you hit your head so hard your brain hits your skull).
Hitting your head at slower speads doesnt cause concussions. If it did puting a hat would cause concussions as that is basicly a very weak hit.

it doesnt make that much of a difference though. you hit you head good helmet or not your getting concused. in biking if your gonna hit your head hard enough to get a concussion the helmet isnt gonna help.

Brett's right. Bike helmets (all helmets in general) prevent massive trauma but do not do much for against concussions:

Brett why would I? Piks just uses arguments, instead of pulling them out of his ass. Id still claim that for SOME VERY SPECIFIC crashes heavy padded helmets (the first article is bike helmets overall so I doubt they tested FFs) reduces the risk of concussion. Hell if strong neck muscles can than why not thick padding>

Bmx helmets no but some ff and some open face are not far behind moto. I'd never ride dh in a thinly padded helmet like a spec deviant

either way, having more padding in your helmet does make a different. its what absorbs the impact (to a certain extent) and why you're supposed to buy ba new helmet after any major crash as it will no longer do its job.
