Rims that last longer than a season for downhill riders or a tire that doesn't require air but uses some thing like a very light elastic foam or at least something that when you do pop a tire for it to support you enough to get down the hill during a race.

Different density foams or foam with air pressure. Also to prevent punctures it would be awesome if something could be made that goes in between the tube and the tire that would be under pressure from the tube squishing against the tire and would seal any holes quickly. Kind of like the concept of tubeless but without the hassle of converting and obviously not saving any weight.

There is an answer to both of your complaint's...
Purchase some mag 30's, double tracks, doublewide, MTX 39....
Why not purchase downhill tubes instead of XC tubes... If you pop downhill tubes, you would really surprise me, unless you totally tear up trail like a pro...
There is a more promising option for DH riders, but they choose not to go that rout, which seems more logical.
Therefore, your argument is invalid.

We're not complaining just brainstorming/thinking out loud.
And everyone one who DH's (and isn't a complete bellend) knows that there's a fine line between light and longlasting/strong and choose to cross it.

I think the first thing I asked my guys when we first met was "Why not use helium in the tubes if weight if everything?". I got a lecture in molecules and bowed my head.
But no idea is stupid and it was a valid question.
Upload the "videos" to the link above, talk is cheap.
