sorry to say but i think he didnt know how to jump that big of a jump, because he didnt move in the air, he just landed on his butt
what exactly could he have done other than bail and take the force with his ankles. he already locked the tires, nothing else can be done to bring the front down at that point.
ofcourse he didn't know how to jump exactly this dirt.
as he said later "something went wrong in my head and i thought it was a big air, not a dirt".
if he'd landed it like a dirt, he'd brake something in his body.
but he had only bent his left hussefelt crank and broken a finger on his leg)

wow. there was so much time to ditch the bike and land rolling, if you freeze up that bad you should not hit jumps that big.
I think in moments like those you want the bike to soak up as much as possible. Its was probably for the best he did hold on.
