Breathing Ladders for Better Cardio

How to use breathing ladders for better cardio on the trail.

I've heard about the importance of breathing for a long time and tried to apply this in the last season, but I've found that I get too little air by breathing with my belly, I've got to use my whole ribcage when I'm breathless. Was I doing something wrong, or is it just a matter of inconvience / being not used to this breathing pattern? By now breathing with the ribcage is working fine for me and using mainly the belly provides just too little oxygen...

try expand ur belly first think of a balloon in ur belly and slowly fill the rest of ur diaphragm, another is box breathing think of a square each side is 2 seconds, in breath 2 seconds pause 2seconds, exhale 2 seconds, pause 2 seconds, that is more a relaxing breath but helps to teach yourself to control ur breath.

A good diaphragmatic breath will start low in the belly and end high in the rib cage, however if you start high you can't tap into the belly part of breathing. The idea is to get your nose to initiate and drive your breath but you will obviously need to use your mouth and the your ribcage when going for max oxygen uptake. However, you want to practice belly breathing and breathing ladders are a good way to do that.
