I was gonna vote for the DH guys until I saw that front flip off the drop! That's just ridiculous...
I would say they were both great but i thought the slopestyle guys looked like they were having more fun ( probably due to the upbeatsong and sunnyier open air camera shots). And then he flipped that drop and that was it, that was incredible
Yeah but... tricks dont impress me, i know they should but they just dont intrest me at all. Its like yeah that was sick he did a frontfilp of a drop but id rather watch people send massive moto whips and shred berms, i dunno maybe there something wrong with me :/ But im all sports (BMX, MX, Snowboard) tricks just seem like "meh" to me.
If I was ripping down a trail, feeling super steezy, and some one did a backflip then a frontflip infront of me I would be pissed.
i think to many people are basing there opinion off of one trick (the fronty off of that drop) think what you want to but if that 1 guy didnt pull that 1 trick would you have chosen differently?
if I had to pick from the actual meaning of, 'shred,' it's a pretty obvious meaning that the DHers would win. They litterally shredded that berm to bits!
To me nothing is cooler than blowing through the roughest terrain. There's no foam pit for learning to do that. Anyway, the DHer's did what they were supposed to, go fast and shred through gnar stuff. And the Slopestyle riders did what they were supposed to, do tricks and flow. I liked the DH team more just because thats the style of riding I do and it makes me want to go out and ride. They both get my vote.
the debate was if either downhill or slopestyle could shred the park the hardest, that means downhill wins. Shredding is getting down the hill quickly, sickly, awesome, getting your air, and getting everything done smoother.. Again, that makes downhill win that debate. But i would still say that slopestyle wins, because there is he slightest bit of extra skill in making your way down faster, more tricked out, and plus your doing it on a hardtail (for most, like me) or a bit of backsuspension, so i would say even though downhill is shredding harder, slopestyle is winning, because they are putting in more skill!
I can now say that overall, slopestyle would win!
I hope you agree!
P.S. No offence to the downhill guys, you guys have some AWESOME skill too! it was a close win!

well thats were you are wrong, i didnt see 1 of the slope guys blasting down a rock garden so yea they probs are gonna go faster on large jumps (witch a guy on a full DH could go just as fast). and it takes equal amounts of skill to blast thru a tech section or pull flips and whips. PS. i bet any DH rider could out time any slope rider on the canadian open if your gonna bring speed into this.
That's because downhill is racing lol.... it's all about the time whereas slope style involves skills other than skids and fast cornering... I'd be able to hit a rock garden way before I could backflip, frontflip, tailwhip or suicide no hander... typical pinkbike that dh wins when the slope style was WAY better, oh, and the main reason the dh's were literally 'shredding' the course was because it was sloppy mud whereas the ss were riding on half dry solid mud.....
i would try and explain how much skill it does take to race, but you ride BMX so you wouldnt get it.
naahhh I have a DJ but still like street and park, with rides in the woods if I'm bored, I would try and explain the skill in flips, tailwhips and 360s but you ride DH, so wouldn't get it, although I can skid pretty good
you dont have to explain it cuz i do dj and i bet you can skip pretty good but us DH and FR riders like to drift.
either way DH is winning so im happy regardless of what this guy says and how he thinks the slope style was "WAY better"
both of you shut up. They were equally as good segments, and equally as talented. Just in different aspects. And johnnyschmidt, skidding is locking up a break and letting it slide, they were not skidding. They were drifting, learn the difference.
i wasn't saying that they weren't equally good, i said that both riding styles took equal amounts of skill, i was just defending DH.
I don't get why there needs to be a discussion, everyone has their own opinion and likes a different style of riding
I don't see why you needed to add literally to that, I know lots of people who downhill on hardtails.
id ya a*shole, i do, haha, and every comment from you on this vid is negative to whoever says slopestyle, and you really should stop arguing evcerything, im not gonna call you a troll, but honestly... STFU!!!!!!
^^ya sorry about that...
^^ya sorry about that...
I don't like tricks either (mainly because I can't do them) but I still voted for slopestyle because it just looked like they were enjoying themselves more and generally having a good time with some mates
dh needed less legout, slopestyle needed more train footage. But sick riding by all and good angles and edit. LONGER VIDEO NEXT TIME PLEASE
Firstly, it was a sick video overall. The two riding styles are hard to compare, it is like comparing Chinese cooked chicken with a chicken curry - they are both sick for their own reasons! Awesome vid.
I think that DH "shredded" the park better, slopestyle had some amazing hits with the flips and whatnot but the DH guys just flew through over and around everything with little regard for the confines of the trail. So to me, DH wins this round.

i gotta say ive been riding bikes since i was four.i did bmx since i was ten and now ive grown to big boy bikes. at 23 years old, dh and mtb has been something ive benn doing for years and now its all i do. im in love with tricks and jumps but man it feels good to go fast. i cant say id would pick one style over the other. at the end of the day its all about having fun. thats what i do every time im on my bike. it should'nt come down to which is better. riding is my escape from the real world. i love doing big fast whips. and dream trick to learn once my cast comes off will be a no foot can can. mtn creek bike park just got a bag jump, wooooo! cant wait to hit it. all that matters is that your out there doing what you love.
I vote for slopestylers because downhillers who shred like this you can see in every Bike Park, but guys doing such grazy things you won`t see that often.
I'd say Tom won it by himself. The back to frontflip was tight and then he pulled off the flip-drop. So sick!!!!
Ha Ha....... glad to see the vid makes for some interesting debate, will it ever be settled, doubt it cos actually they are both different skilled discipline's of one great sport that we all love are clearly passionate about!
There is no winning-losing.
It is like asking:
Do you like big boobies or blondes?
Both are awesome, and you can have both. And in many ways!

So you missed ALL redbull joyride 2011 highlight videos? What a shame that you didn't see anthonys...
I thought both segments of riding were awesome, but I just don't get the appeal of looking like a 4 year old in pajamas so I'm going to vote slopestyle for it's coolness factor.
usually...i try to ride freeride, cuz its kind a between these two styles and i like both of them..... but in this case, definitely the slopestyle guys.. they just shred and have fun...
Wow! If the downhill was in the dry it wouldn't off looked so hardcore! but the slopstyle was fair rad. Sorry to say downhill has taken my vote!
The manual with flow in DH section is sick but the hardtail cru win this challenge with so mush style. Good VOD!!
the downhillers didn't do us proud, rode one tech section and then just did whips. More steep gnarly tech!
I would have to vote Slopestyle. Its just so steezy and flow. DH on the other hand is just as insane, i know for a fact i would never do that s**t
I remember when used to ride bikes when i was a kid with whiny kids complaining they couldn't do any tricks or style, so they race their bikes instead.
slopstyle had 17 tricks and the downhill only had 1 my vote gos to the awesome tricks especialy the front flip off of the drop at the end... ...wow

both segmented riding styles have their own demands from a rider, however in this video slopestyle took my vote.

Slope style has my vote because those guys were actually entertaining to watch and they pulled off some sick tricks
