Pro GRT Round #2 at Fontana
First Jr. Expert Race. Had a great weekend on a Really Technical Course. Crashed in my seeding. Placed 26th out of 34 with only 12 Seconds off Top Ten. Thanks to everyone that supported me!

Looks rough up top, but that smooth uphill part was SOOOOO long. I would hate to pedal my DH bike through that. No wonder a 29er beat Gwinn here.

yeah, looks like they could have cut off the last 1/4 of the track..not much point in that bit.. It had way too much pedaling for 'DH'..

Im not surprised in the slightest that a 29r won on this course. it had roughly 50 seconds of technical track that might demand a full DH bike, and around a 1:45 of smooth pedalling sections. There were way more gains to be had in having a light, efficient pedalling bike than a monster truck. The real question is why was anyone on a DH bike at all?

Because most people aren't Mitch Ropelato. The gnarlier sections definitely looked gnarly enough to me for most people to need the extra help from a DH bike.

Spots of the course look gnarly, but there are many long smooth flatish sections (just judging by the video here). After watching this, I'm not at all surprised that a trail bike won...

Haha no way we were just joking this course was gnarly this is the craziest one ive seen at fontana you have to see it in person gopro doesnt do it justice

But then again the flat is apart of fontana so we are used to it i really dont consider it "part of the course"

Thanks for the view!
I can imagine a 29er is fast there with a Mitch R. on it. Congrats to him.
Split times would be great to have at this track. Better analysys then.
Dont understand they dont cut the track...
Last tech section and finish. So still a big Wall section in in for the classic feeling, haha.
But much nicer to watch the race at the finish area then.
Is it a DH track, if a trail bike can pushed to a win there? Dont know. But at some MX tracks riders on MX2/lites are as fast as MX1 riders. Is it a MX track then?
Or MotoGP at Sachsenring is close to Moto2 times because its much corners.
A DH Track can be to very specific to one theme if this is typical to the area. Short track like Willingen Germany or Pietermaritzburg/RSA or the AUS Worlds Track. In a series of six or better 8 races no problem. But for a World Champs race it is difficult. But at the end, the best rider will win. Finding the best tech set up and bike is part of the game.
