Gnarkansas

Arkansas is often associated with the likes of Walmart and the Beverly Hillbillies, but our northwestern region has a rapidly growing mountain bike scene. This video shows what at typical day of downhill/freeriding looks like for many of us. Come check it out if you are every nearby. Music: "The Ides" - Me Like Bees "February" - The Appleseed Cast

Tim McLaughlin & myself built those DH trails in Cass & Devils den.

Devils den is out .. at least where the old trail was ( Cherry Knob)

Cass could have a rebirth ... Tim & I planned on cleaning those trails up last winter but it ended up being a really bad winter so we never did. ... "But" we still want to ... Byrds Campground (owners) are all for it.

Well we definitely have people that would be interested in helping clear out a new trail. Let us know if you decide to fix it up!

Cool. I know Tim. My wife used to work with him at JDC. That's awesome that the campground is in. What is it that makes Devil's Den out of the question? Like Jason said, I guarantee we can get a pretty big group of workers. I think there may be some potential near white rock where the ATV trails are. It's a bit of a drive though.

The top part of Cherry Knob is Private Property & We had permission back in the day ... They don't want anyone on it now.

When we get our ducks in a row about Cass I'll spread the word ... it would be nice to have help.

Nice vid! Will you guys be at Fat Tire fest? NWA has so much potential, there used to be more really nice trails. Cass, Devils Den. Lots of elevation to play with if the scene was larger.

Oh yes, we are excited for the Fat Tire Fest to get here!

Nice clean video and fun riding. What editing program do you use? Or does anyone else have any suggestions on a good video editing program? A free version would be nice. Someting that allows cutting and splicing would be nice. Thanks again for the video and any help. Cheers!

I actually just used GoPro studio for this. It's a good starter program.

Whats sad is the gnarliest trails that have existed in the state are gone and not even ridden anymore. (Cass, Devils Den DH trails).

I bet we could get those areas reopened if we show enough interest. Do you know where they are?
  • + 1
Yes, the problem is its not just a matter of getting them reopened. Cass has been gone so long it simply doesn't exist anymore. Probably couldn't even find it. Devils Den would show the most potential but it has been ages since it has been ridden or got attention. I could probably follow the trail but it would need rebuilt. Then there is the problem of a large portion of it existing on private land that has since then passed hands to a new owner. Arkansas used to have some burly places to go ride.

Well this past october me and a few buddies went to devils den and the park ranger kicked us out so then we went and shuttled one of their hiking trails (yellow rock hiking trail). Devils den would be the best place again though. Really anywhere in NWA area is. There could be endless DH trails in Bella Vista. Too bad we don't actually get to use all our funding too.

It's steep it's rough and there are big natural features and rocks that can be made into masssive moves on the trail without a ton of effort. I miss that trail. The most scared I have ever been on a bike (in Arkansas) has got to be the first time I hit the upper road gap at DD.
