 Yup, finally went and got a camera. SJ4000 (genuine, as far as I know, as there are many variants). Who knew cheap chinese knock-offs could deliver such good quality. It´s got a pretty good dynamic range and a very good light/dark adaptability. Only bright/shade mixes kill it, but hey, it happens to way more expensive gear, too

PS. Original clips are waaaay clearer, but I haven´t managed to figure out how to encode properly for youtube (and for youtube I´ve followed the encoding guide pretty closely) or this site, and I end up with a lot more artifacting from compression than I´d like.

 ah cool, it's about time! the cheap cams are great for what we do, it's not the end of the world if we crash and break cheap ones..
nasty feeling when you are too late to decide which way to go...been there, done that (many times)
i can't help you with the encoding but i know what you mean...
