that was ace, begining to end was an awesome trailer, looks like its a cool video too.
the end cracked me up.
the end cracked me up.
So why would the forestry department cut down more trees to block the trails, isnt this more harmful to the forest than just letting this dudes build a trail. You should want mountain bikers to be a part of the forest eco system. Mountain bikers like the outdoors and forest surroundings more soo than the Forestry department. Where abouts is this trail network anyways?
I can respect those dudes and all but i build "illegal trails to in the most obvious place ever (a passenger train goes by it every five minutes and there is a walking path next to the jumps and a no trespassing sign in the area)and i dont freak out about it. You dont get shot for moving dirt.
man, you guys in America and Canada get such a hard time. every trail you build is "illegal", and gets destroyed or whatever. In England there are trails all over the place and the only people who give a shit are the national trust/woodland trust, but all they do is like destroy a berm or something because the tracks we are riding are "unsafe" and we could claim compensation against them. there is also the forestry commision but most of their land has established legal trails in it.
melonhead1145 i dunno where u live in England but its nothing like that where i live most of the trails I've built have been knocked down
i live in gloucestershire. most of the trails i build the national trust/woodland trust will only knock one thing down. i don't get that much bother from them but a trail im building at the moment is in an area of woodland that there are no trails so the woodland trust dont do many patrols there
in fife the came down and drove over our trails with diggers and completely demolished evrything
they even cut trees down so that they were lying across one of the tracks
i finally managed to get someone to let me build on his land so i've got some gd trails now, no more sneaking into places to build
"once a trail is established, its very hard to remove" is the best public quote ever documented and will be used as a staple for more trails. Write an email to your state senator kiddies- its a revolution! Awesome video.
? rangers are destroying trails all the time. theres no real way of stopping them. and IF the legal work gets done, then its all regulation and the trail is destroyed by then anyway
Not where I live........I understand your point on 'illegally built' features but there are places that condone it. If you watched and paid attention/comprehended the 'rangers' words you would understand my comment allot more.
If you build trails on illegal lands, either parks or even private land, theres a chance you will get in shit. The park system is getting more accomodating of mountain biking, realizing trails that built properly will do minimal ecological impact. As land disappears, the parks will need to be the places that people can ride.
My local park has a lot of volunteer hours logged by the riders who can have an input on the trails, so its not just some clueless ranger making boring trails. The park's forest rangers used to be the enemy for trail wrecking, but they should now be used in partnership.
man what park are you talking about cause i live in fredericton and i don't know about this trail system or volunteers

wow 'illegal trails' .....maybe you should be doing something more worthwhile, like i dunno, busting people doing actual bad things, not Mountain biking, like really...c'mon!!
Yah, cuz everyone knows that mtn bikers are seen to be worse than a group of skateboarders. I mean, u see a mtn biker gang smokin in a skatepark and u just know that they are up to no good. hahaha, lol. Mtn bikers are as good as gold.

nice video you guys. pleased to hear that you can still ride your trail. i cant say the same for mine
... all riders are now banned from my "illegal" trail spot for ever as we were "trespassing". quite a shame scine we put so much effort in to build everything and now have nowhere to ride
Very sad to hear that you are hosed for riding around your home. Better move! No seriously start small... The sport has surpassed our ability to keep new school trails progressive and open. When you add in a land manager who come across Whistler it's game over. Best of luck and better start scoping naturals.
i need to a group of guys like this in my town. Literally there are 3 of us in this town that have DH/FR bikes. The rest of the guys are xc riders and I hav to travel a hour and half to get the nearest freeride spot. I'm going to try to do this
"once a trail is established, its very hard to remove"
Man thats the best news ive heard in a while, everyone go build trails and thay cant stop us!!!!!!!!
BUt seriously that vid looks like its ooing to be sick, im definetly buying a copy

Well done! Great to see a documentary of a story many of us have lived. I hope the message is for everyone to learn how to do things better - both land managers and trail builders. The key is to address liability concurs and put the onus on the user/biker. As long as the trails are maintained and signed, let progression reign!
Props!

these trails are now the best freeride trails within the teton valley/jackson area, and are extremely well-kept. There's about a half dozen trails now, all legal. Kudos to you guys and the forest service.
Nice work guys! Can't wait to see the whole thing at Sea Otter. I know things aren't always this rosy but the woman in this trailer is hands down one of the coolest and most progressive land managers around and has been instrumental in making this project a reality. Nothing but props for Linda and the Freedom Riders!
yeh man, this is how it is in california all the environmentaists sayin were doing wrong jut cause were maken some trails where its not hurting anyone...fight for ure right to ride!
i ride these trails all the time! i knew there was a story behind it, but not having to out smart the feds! Cool video, cooler trails, awesome in all. VOD!!!
Freedom riders, I love your trails I make it over there every summer to ride them. Actually broke my wrist on your hip down the powerline jump trail haha. Lithium is so far my all time favorite trail. Props on the hard work guys and once again i love ur trails.
JH those trails are the the work of some devoted, hardworking downhillers. those guys are badass and this movie is going to show everyone that mountain biking is here and always will be.
I rode these trails this last summer and when I got to the bottom of a good half-hour solid descent, all I could think about was how I was going to clean the jizz out of my pants. seriously, they are that amazing. props to the teton freedom rider guys for getting this real public!

ya i though that right away to,that is the best one ever same thing just happend to our djs except those are easy to destroy they got plowed
fuck i saw them taring down boykos jumps and the waterfall gap which i was planning on hitting on the weekend
no but he wants to hit it too... and im sure theres other people in the future who will want to hit it...but theres some other decent sized shit up the like 30ft across by 10ft down up the hill and another like 40ft step up that goes up about 5 ft so i will just hit those i gues
yea but there all on private property... and i don't look forward to be fined $2000 just so i can ride my bike in one spot..
they wont fine u they will just tell u to get the hell out how will they fine us if they dont know were we live or our names
ya dude you guys are sooooooo rit. in Marin County where the sport of mountain biking was invented we arn't allowed to ride the single tracks but does that stop us? hell no!

anyone know if some of this stuff is clear yet? I have strong doubts, but I thought it was worth it to ask
All the trails in this video are part of the legal trail system. They are acknowledged by the forest service, on the local maps and designated as downhill bike only.

How is the snow level right now? And when do you expect to ride Jimmy's MOm? I love that trail, rode it last year!!!
Not gonna be riding Jimmy's Mom for a while - we've gotten 80in of snow in the last week.
There's probably about 8ft on the ground there right now...
Maybe end/middle of June?

Parallel will open earlier. More south facing and lower elevation. Its April 3rd and still dumping snow down to 6000 ft. Not looking good for early season riding.

The first one is RJD2 with "Beyond the Beyond"
BTW: I Prefer much more "Someone's second kiss" and "Since we last spoke" from the same artist.

couple of felony charges, probation, banned from all federal property for awhile, community service, sentenced to IMBA trailbuilding school, oh yeah and fines
was in a few magazines several years ago
Brad...you and the Hick Hucksters are referenced in the movie. The brief time I was able to get to know you was incredible. You are an inspiration and pivotal figure in all of this and I hope you are happy that while your outcome was detrimental it helped pave the way for better things to come!
Do you have that magazine B-rad? I'd love to do an update on that for you on PB- the 'What happened to the Hick Hucksters type thing......you down?
Yeah, the forest service and the Teton Freedom Riders have a time line of projects and improvements. We were asked to "clean up" the trail that was adopted by the forest service and now we are able to continue new projects. Since Jimmy's Mom and Parallel Trail were constructed legally from the ground up they are some of the most feature packed trails. Imagine a BMX track for mountain bikes. You can't just go out and start building a new trail though.
Wrong. The forest service is the only reason why these trails exist in their current form. Without them we would be nowhere. I live here and ride and work on these trails and I say big ups to the forest service for giving us the chance to even have this. You are so off bro.
