This is for mountain bike applications and will enable you to mount your MatchMaker compatible Sram shifter to a Shimano I-Spec brake lever. This is for the right shifter. Mounting the shifter to the brake lever greatly cleans up the handlebar appearance and in some cases enables you to get the proper setup between the two, whereas originally the clamps for each other might have interfered with that.
