Founded in 1982, by a group of Sharon residents, the Sharon Land Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rural heritage of Sharon, Connecticut. Our mission is to act as stewards of our lands through preservation and conservation for the benefit of nature and the community. The Sharon Land Trust protects lands of special scenic, ecological, or agricultural value in order to maintain the rural character of the Town of Sharon.
The Sharon Land Trust owns over 1,400 acres of land. 8 preserves covering over 800 acres are open to the public for passive recreation. The Sharon Land Trust oversees almost 1,800 acres of conservation easements. These lands are privately owned but have restrictions placed on them to prevent over development, ensuring these lands are protected in perpetuity.
