North Shore Bike Shop is proudly celebrating 10 years in business. We have worked hard for our customers to make it to where we are today. We are a group of passionate cyclists who are also customer service specialists. We commit to every one of our customers whether they are comparing run bikes, perusing our sale bin, or returning for this year's top-end custom-built enduro wonderbike. We are a dedicated community involvement shop. We support many trail associations, events, and organizations throughout BC.

We are stoked to continue as Transition Bikes' world's largest dealer! We are also a proud Norco and Brodie dealer. We focus less on getting every possible brand into our store and instead focus on expertise and experience with the brands we proudly carry. We are a mountain bike specialty shop and we are always well-stocked with youth bikes, dirt jumpers, trail and enduro bikes, and downhill bikes. We do NOT sell e-MTBs.

Our service department is tidy, fully-stocked, fast, and staffed with content and competent staff who are eager to see you back on the road or trail. We fix everything bicycle related. Suspension work is done in-house and to factory standards. Our turn-around time is unmatched anywhere else in town. We offer free tune-ups for life to all our bike-buying customers, and many billable jobs carry reduced labour rates. We are a home base for ALL of our bike-buying customers as well as for many people riding brands we don't sell.

Please feel free to check out our Pinkbike profile which contains many exciting buy&sell deals and photos of our previous custom builds. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Matt, the owner, scratches my back so I'll scratch his. Matt's a real friendly guy who's more interested in selling you the right product than he is in selling you any product. He's a family guy and understands you may be on a budget. He offers his own version of a warranty on a lot of things, such as free truing on wheels he built if I recall correctly. Go check out his shop!

I searched all of the Fraser valley/ Vancouver area for XL bikes to ride, they were the only ones to have a floor models to try out. Matts customer service was top notch, creating a custom build for my tight budget. Out of it all I got a bike of my dreams and puts a smile on my face every time I throw a leg over it. Thanks Matt Smile

The first time I visited NSBS, I was very excited by the selection of all my favourite products. It's refreshing to be able to go to a shop and be able to touch and feel the goodies that other shops, simply didn't stock "but could order in." Great service and friendly atmosphere that oozed with passion each time I visited; a great place to share the ride experience. I was ecstatic when I was invited to join the NSBS team. Now a team rider, I couldn't be more excited to share my passion for this little shop just off of Lonsdale on the North Shore. North Shore Bike Shop is awesome.

My first time being in the shop was today and it was a beautiful experience. ANDREW was incredible... He fitted me with FiveTen Shoes, Knee Pads and a few Jerseys. He was full of knowledge and was patient while i tried on every shoe there LOL. And really made sure everything was the right fit before i left the store. One of the best shopping experiences i have ever had. ANDREW THANK YOU

 Friendly staff. Competent mechanical skills.
The only thing that bugs me is that when I inquire about a specific item, they often recommend a different product that is better value. While that may be great for some people, I personally don't want to feel like I have to convince them to sell me the part I'm after.

Fair feedback thank you. Being a small focused shop in a town well-populated by bike shops, we support the products that we have a history with on the trails and in business. Instead of trying to grasp after every single product out there we make recommendations based on brands that have treated us well. As such, we don't sell many items that are popular overall, in part because we don't personally use them and in part because they are well-represented by the other great shops on the North Shore.

So when one calls us inquiring about a product we do like to make the alternative recommendation based on our product lines and experience. We certainly do not want to discourage our customers from pursuing the products you are after, but we don't just want to say "we don't have that" and hang up.

We will try to be more clear on why we recommend the alternative items when we don't have exactly what a customer is looking for thanks.

- Matt

 Best bike shop around .

Needed my wheel tensioned and trued. Expected to drop it off and pickup I a day or two. But they fit me right in and did my wheel as I looked at their new transition and norco. Awesome prices and huge selection of anodized parts at reasonable prices.

They explained the price for the true and also explained how much it would be if they had to replace the nipple I thought was stripped. Both prices were super reasonable and he also went beyond and explained the dents and welds on the wheel being safe and such. It was nice to know he cared about my wheel more than I cared lol. Thanks guys . I'll be back soon !

I bought an helmet online from NSBS and I must say they give an excellent service. I did my purchase through pinkbike. Matt was very courteous and patient with all my questions and when I called the shop, I've got the same excellent service. He really helped me to choose the right size of helmet and it fits great! Shipping to the province of Quebec took less than 4 open days which is very fast. I am very happy with the purchase and I will definitely buy from them again.

Thanks!

Feel totally ripped off on an online purchase through Pinkbike Buy and Sell. I bought an IXS Trail RS helmet that was advertised as a new/clearing out old stock. Upon receiving the helmet I found it to show obvious signs of use. The forehead area as well as the chin and ear straps are browned with sweat and there are scuffs on the shell, even a corner of the logo scraped off. When I phoned they called it a floor model and guaranteed that it had not been used, that the stains are from trying on only. No effort was made to facilitate a return or exchange, just advice on how to go about cleaning it. Umm thanks? Expected a lot more from a reputable bike shop

My sincere apologies about your disatisfaction with the condition of the helmet. The last two green ones (being a bright colour and being on our showroom floor many months) had both developed some marks and discolorations. We should have been more clear the helmet was not prepared to go to a show-n-shine before you made your purchase. Not sure what else we can offer than 40% discount you received for a few marks on a current helmet. Hope we can earn your business again in the future thanks!

I'm going to add to the "Return Policy" comments above.

In this age of no restocking fees it didn't dawn on me to inquire about one. My experience with other industry and non industry stores added to my complacency in this regard. Every store I've shopped at that has a restocking fee has told or had signage for me to read prior to purchase finalization.

I was looking for an item of a specific colour. There wasn't one on the shelf so the clerk offered to check the storage room. He went back, found the colour I wanted, and brought it out to me. It was still in the shipping bags. It looked exactly right, I stated my confirmation and the clerk acknowledged. This was the one I wanted.

I paid (and saw nor received information about restocking or other fees). When I brought the item home and pulled it out I found colours I didn't want printed on the inside folds. I didn't check in store and I should have. Apparently my trust in the clerk was unfounded.

So I returned to the store, with the item still in the packaging. I presented it to the guy sitting at the counter and relayed my tale. He responded with understanding then stated, "There is a restocking fee for all returns." I stared at him obviously surprised. He quickly followed up with, "Or you can choose another item and I'll swap it out." Swap it out? They didn't have what I wanted the first time I was here. A day later showed no new inventory. The guy at the counter made no suggestions about new shipments. The customer service I paid notably more for (I could have bought near identical shorts at MEC for much less, but I wanted to support my LBS) quickly vanished.

The item was absolutely new, in original packaging. So this isn't a "restocking" fee. This is a "not giving you your money back", fee.

I've made sure to tell everyone I know about NSBS' return policy. Sure, in hindsight I should have asked about the shop's policies and procedures. But I intentionally shopped at a small LBS because of the extra customer service. I trusted this shop to tell me about how they conduct business. They did not.

I learned a valuable lesson. Buyer beware. The staff are helpful, but ask about their policies BEFORE you complete your purchase.

I won't be shopping there again.

Always a pleasure dealing with the staff at NSBS. Matt, John, Andrew and the rest of the crew helped me navigate a new bike purchase, my first full suspension all mountain bike, and got me sorted on what I needed. They patiently answered all my questions while sharing experience and expertise to help refine my decision making progress. I ended up buying a new Transition Patrol(awesome bike) and haven't been disappointed. I've returned on several occasions to have the bike serviced, their turn around time is incredibly fast.

They carry a wide range of bikes, gear, and accessories to keep you covered for all your needs. Couldn't recommend this shop more!

Recently purchased an Enduro bike that came with a defective CCDB Air CS shock. Matt and his staff were quick to deal with it by sending it off to a certified service center. Unfortunately, this had to be done on more than one occasion which was an extremely frustrating experience for me as a customer. Matt more than understood what was required to see this through and took charge of this situation. He could have just as easily kept pushing it off to services shop for warranty work, but instead went above and beyond. Don't know many shops will loan you personal shock so that I can continue riding until warranty repairs are completed. Long story short, I had lost all confidence in the shock that came with my bike which Matt replaced with a 2017 Fox Float X2, all at his cost. I need not say anything else.....

Sorry Matt, but I'm just not a fan. You seem like a nice enough guy but your return policy, which is posted nowhere (not website; not receipt; not in store) and thus when I bring a product back completely as new in it's original packaging (also indiscernible from new) within 24 hours of purchase I would expect a full refund as any retailer I've ever dealt with would allow.

I could understand if the product could not pass 100% as brand new that you might charge a restocking fee, but 20% on a $150 item is nuts, especially when it's brand new. I realize you also offered me an in store credit, but for a $150 item, no, I'd prefer to have my funds returned.

And not responding to the Better Business Bureau complaint? I dunno man...

I rarely ever return anything and I absolutely hate doing so, but in this case the product would not work as I assumed it would due to my set up which was not standard and even something the manufacturer would not endorse use for.

The true test of service is how one deals with the issues that are not the norm. Anyone can say hi and ring up some merchandise. If returns are so rare why not make an exception to preserve a customer? Instead you cut me some slack on the restocking fee so I only had to pay you $15 to allow a refund on the product and I'll go out of my way to never set foot in your shop again. I just do not understand how, as a business owner, that makes sense to you.

And let your return/exchange policy be known. Most people would prefer a refund over an in-store credit. And certainly a restocking fee on a retail over the counter (not mail order) sale to a local is, well, not cool.

Every time I see you on the trail or street I'll remind you you owe me $15, k? It's not much money, but it should not be your money.

It's difficult to respond to non-factual "reviews". Legally you are not entitled to a return so I don't owe you anything. You are saying a straight-up lie about the incompatibility and you know it. I explained it to you when you were having your tantrum in our busy store.

Keep your reviews factual please and you'll help deliver your message more effectively than with these long-winded whiny lies you are spraying. Say the following: "i purchased a product. Being certain it would meet my needs, I did not think to ask about a return policy. Later I decided I don't want the product and asked to return it. The business's return policy was then discussed and I didn't like it. The owner gave me a reduced restocking fee in an effort to placate me. I was still, and remain, unsatisfied. I recommend to other users of this business to enquire about a return policy on items you are unsure of to avoid dissatisfaction."

plus I even told you if you ever do any business of any sort with us we can work out the re-stocking fee in a future purchase. Instead you chose to go on this rambling crusade against my business that I love and devote my life to. I took several steps outside of our legal and pretty standard return policy to help you. You are the one that refused my efforts to help so you can justify being angry. it's funny though cashbout of my pocket wouldnjust make all thisbtrouble dissapear right? I belive that's called extortion, and, unlike our return policy, is illegal.

Hey! You owe me fifteen bucks.

A 'rambling crusade against your business that I love and devote my life to'? That's getting a bit sanctimonious, no?

It's not a crusade. And I know your shop is how you make a living. I have purchased from you before and had every intention of doing so again until that experience.

I did not lie. There was no tantrum. I was civil but simply incredulous to your policy. "Busy" is subjective. Very. Subjective.

Your policy is not the norm. It's an exceptional way of doing business, that I'd be happy to support, just not the first time. That product was 100% brand new and could be sold again to anyone as such. I agree (now) that if unsure on return policy the customer should ask. In my defense I assumed no problem unless otherwise clearly stated. Or stated anywhere, for that matter. Yes, I realize it's legal.

if I were in your position (as I have been more times then you, I can assure you) I would have made the customer feel like a turd for returning it and made them well aware of the return policy and then given them my preferred options. If those did not work then I'd make an exception and refund the customer. I'd have gone out of my way to make an exception against my policy (customer feels like I did something special for them, which I did) and they get their money back (they will not make same error again and tell two friends how awesome I was) and come back to my shop in future.

But what would I know, right? I was throwing a tantrum because i found it cheaper on the net and I am a complete disaster with a wrench so it's not like I could even install it.

Again, I appreciate and respect your policy, but that is no way to introduce someone to it.
