The Tygerberg Mountain Bike Club is the largest organisation of its kind in Africa. The club was started in the early 1990s by volunteers who negotiated access to Majik Forest
and started to build a trail network in this iconic park. The trail remains today though in a slightly altered form.
The club is managed by a committee of 8 volunteers and a small, dedicated team of employees who ensures the smooth running of operations, as well as building and maintaining the trails. Our current network spans more than 20 farms and gives members over 180km of trails in the greater Durbanville area.
The club is a not-for-profit organisation and all funds received goes either into the club for new trails and trail maintenance, the landowners who graciously allow us on their private land or a myriad of special donation projects in and around our community. These projects include the yearly board auction for the Volunteer Wildfire Services team who battle veld fires like the one that destroyed Jonkershoek and Tokai in 2022, the Durbanville Children’s Home as well as the local schools situated on the farms our trails cross over. Additionally, we make funds available to support the WP Mountain Bike commission to host XCO, XCM and Enduro league races.
The club is open to members and non-members however members enjoy special privileges such as the interlinking corridors between various trail heads allowing our riders to stay off the roads and stay safe as well as various offerings from Rewards Partners and special events.
Trails, well, we originally started as an All Mountain Trail movement in Majik back in the good old heydays before proper forks let alone shocks were invented. As our relationship grew with the surrounding landowners we expanded into many XCO type trails. Now we cater for all disciplines except downhill as the terrain does not allow us to build DH specific trails. We have also built the Hoogekraal skills park where riders of any skill level can practice specific skills till they perfect their craft.
