Formed in 2004 this non-profit club was set up by local enthusiasts to promote mountain biking in Hanmer Springs through the construction of new mountain bike trails. The Club has an excellent relationship with Matariki Forests who own the forest. It has a specific License and Permit, which allow the Club to undertake the trail building work. Without the support and co-operation of Matariki Forests the trail network would not be as extensive as it is today.
Single track riding is what mountain bikers value the most and Hanmer now boasts some of the best in the New Zealand. There are trails here for all levels of experience and they link together to create a great network of rides. For the more adventurous there are now opportunities in the St James Conservation Area for mountain biking and Hanmer provides a great base for exploring this area.
Having trails in a commercial forest means that from time to time tracks will disappear as the forest is harvested. Trails are generally reinstated once the logging is completed. This, together with the new trails currently being developed means the trail network is continually expanding.
