I personally donate something better than money: my time and effort. I don't complain somebody needs to do something. I don't wait for somebody to fix something, I fix it. When I see something wrong I bring my own tools and handle it. I'm not stupid, I don't alter trails. Examples of what I've done: mounds of broken glass from smashed beer bottles in Anaheim Hills: I came back with bags, broom, rake, etc. and cleaned up all the shards. Trash along the trail: I bring those disposable plastic grocery bags and pick up the trash & dispose of properly myself. Graffiti: acetone, scrub brush, & rags usually cleans that up. I don't do big graffiti cleanup, though, as I don't want to bring barrels of solvent to a public area. I NEVER see anyone else doing cleanup, so I do it. I figure that's way more valuable than a $5 donation. My time and effort is worth more than $5. I'm not special, just impatient. Somebody, somewhere's got to do it, I figure why not me? Then everybody can enjoy the trails just a little bit more.

Time to update this with something more current. SHARE membership works with local stakeholders and organizations to maintain SHARED trail use, development, and maintenance within Orange County. I’m biased as a member, but the group does what it can as an all-volunteer organization.
