Canon 1000D ?

Around £300. Or wait, save twice this much and get a 50d.

But remember, you can take a brilliant, publishable photo with the crappiest of cameras.

Don't believe the hype!

ive got a 1000d and i honestly wouldnt recommend it to anyone,if your gonna go for a dslr then its worth saving for a decent one. the g10 has lots of similar features plus video and its a more convenient size.

O+

Yes, the g10 is a great camera, but the G11 is better - both camera are great tho. There is a article in photography magazine, i forget the name of it, i think it was amateur photographer, comparing them both. The G11 won but both are mint! :Cool :

yeh, they both seem decent. a good comparison site is dpreview.com theyv got a load of cameras and lenses reviewed in loads of detail.

d40 is big and doesn't take video

sony a230 takes minolta lenses which are good quality and cheap second hand, too bad sony's quality isn't good

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 is what you want, excelent optics, 24mm wide angle is much wider than anything in p'n's class, excelent aperture again better than anything in p'n's: f=2,0-2,8 - for shallow depth of field photos (rider in focus-background blurred), shoots video even in HD

if i needed a second camera to carry around in my pocket i would deffo get that one, it has been on my radar since it was out

might be harder to find thou

i wouldnt get a sony just because lenses and flashes and accessories are expensive but cannons and nikons are good like a 450d or a d90 and some of the nikon dslrs have a video function (live view) which is good for taking out to take biking videos
