Well don't know if this is the type of ute you meant?

HDJ79R Toyota Landcruiser 2005 Turbo Diesel 4.2L, yeah the newer models have great engines but shit I can't believe Toyota stuffed up the wheel track so much!

Yeah pretty much post up any Aussie utes, but non of that American "Truck" sh*t, like the f250, etc. No offence to your strange ways but why do you guys call them trucks? A truck is a 'Semi trailer' or 'road train'.

Anyways more utes. Let's try and get all the different makes. So we've got my Commodore, the Malloo (from what I could see), a land cruiser.
So if someone could post up their Hilux, Falcan or what ever ute they have, it would be good.

I fail to see why posting a Landcruiser or Hilux is ok, but not a Ford F250-type pickup.

Because they are not an Aussie style ute. And over here the f250 etc, are pretty much frowned apon and hated. Mainly because of they're size. Sure there are some sold over here, but it's mostly the big Moto-x, speedboat racer, families that need to tow huge trailers and want a bit more room. Personly I don't see why they need them, they could use a Dual cab Hilux and get the some resolt.

I think F250's are favoured by Oldies travelling around pulling caravans or particularly those 5th wheeler thingies. Hardly every day type of cars though, hard enough to park the Cruiser in more major cities like Perth etc!

We had a Hilux as well, it was my car but needed to pay off debt so sold it for a cheap runabout since the Cruiser was the better out of the two, ideally we'd convert his cruiser into a dual cab, best of both worlds then!

I just spent 6 months in australia, never even heard of a UTE before then, kind of a cool concept, reminds me of an el camino. but i would never buy one... get a car, or a truck, a ute is just dumb.

Oh, your playing with fire there, Utes, Dumb. I dont think so. They are one of the smartest style of car ever. Because you can have sow much space to carry things and don't have to buy one of the huge 'trucks' that just guzzels fuel.

What make you think they're dumb?

Yeah when you own a small ranch (we call them farms or if you're not farming anything just a rural property)
and you have to drive 15km or more to the nearest town
and drive an hour or more to a nearest major town
and collect firewood for the winter plus take your own rubbish to the tip
and if you drive at dusk or night time you risk totalling an orderinary car by crashing into a kangaroo
and at least some of the road to your place is not sealed (ie just gravel / dirt road).

Then owning a Ute is not so dumb.

If you live in the bush they are very useful type of vehicle, if you don't live in the bush well there are the performance veriety from Holden etc and if you don't have the whole family with two kids deal then why not have a ute, carry a swag & you've always got somewhere to sleep!

I'm not a farmer but I'd like to see you go tell some Aussie farmer that owning a ute is dumb!

Our previous one was put to work and tomorrow we're collecting rocks with the current one plus a trailer as well (my car can hardly pull the trailer up our driveway when it's full of camping gear let alone rocks!)

It's all personal opinion though, in my opinion those SUV things (cross over 4x4's or whatever) are dumb but hey they suit some people. We had a Forrester XS for a bit and it just didn't suit us, doesn't mean it's a bad car.

ive got to say have a comadore ute is the stuipdest thing you could ever buy, because imo the whole point of a ute is to have a hilux or a landcruser for 1980s that will run for ever you can bash the sh1t out of it and it will continue to run.
where as a ss/ford equvilant/f250 isnt reliable, looks queer, eats fuel, is useles ofroad and cant realy transport f all. asian utes ftw

Fare enough comment. how ever, it is possible to set up a commodore ute it be takin of road. Me and my dad used to have one that we took it places where people wouldn't take a 4x4 hilux. All we did was put in a limit slip diff and raised it a bit. Even with out making any mods you can take them off road quite a bit as long as you know how to drive for where your going.
HSV's/commodores/falcans/fpv's; the reason these are so popular is because 1) you can have a tray-back/tub with a vehicle not much bigger than a sedan. 2) the power to weight ratio is unblievable. 3)if you pack things in there nice a tight (or sensibley) you can fit more in them than in a Hilux/Nirvana (depending on model) 4) they drive around town really well. 5)If you just sensibly they aint to bad on petrol and will last for 400,000km (248.548miles).

And don't forget the tradies that want a good lookin ute, that they zip around town in while carrying all their tool. And most of them will never go off road in their life, so wats the point for them to have a 4x4

But you allowed to think what you like.
