I'm buying this in the next few days hopefully.......I am a BIG oldschool bmx fan, I know they have a snapping tendancy...but i wont be too rough on it anyway

i guess this will be partly a fg-fs bike, i plan to roll down the skatepark now n then with it and do some roll backs and general fun stuff
(thinking out loud a bit here)
with ratio's i'm thinking of using either 42:16 or 17, 36:14 or 15, orrr 44:17 or 18, basicly either 62 or 66 gear inches
bit of a Dilemma, i already got a mtb crankset with a 42t 3/32" chainring, or i could buy a 1/8" 36t chainring, i also have a road crankset i could use the 42t 3/32" chainring to, both 170mm i think
i could get a 44t 160mm crankset which i would probably have to get shipped from america but 160mm would be nice
^Would you not need a smaller gear if you're using it off road?
I'm gonna slow down my Mongoose a bit, take off the drops, put some fatter tyres on. Whats the minimum tyre size to run on a fgfs? Not gonna be doing anything massive, just a few drops and hops about the place.
i have 28c rear (32 wont fit) and 32c front on mine and its fine for generally curb hoping, go for 32c i think
thought your ratio was already quite low?
on mine that would be a really low ratio for me i think, especially 62 gear inches, i also want to use it on the streets to you see, ill have to try it before i decide because i have no idea how it will feel
but i read on another forum the average ratio for people who do fg-fs is like 60 to 70 gear inches
Yeh my ratio is 44-18 i think, so drops and slim tyres are a bit wasted, and I'm tired of my legs spinning madly where ever I go. I think risers and fatter tyres will make me chill a bit more. I have road bike for going fast.
As you go up in tyre size, does it become a softer ride, lower pressure? Would 35c be overkill?
^I thought you were building it up as a mountain bike?
it is a softer ride i think, like with the same pressure as a 23c it will be softer or more forgiving, but you can also run a lower pressure with less risk of obvious things
has the frame got room for 35c?
my bike will be like a multi tool, not to just replace my mountain bike, if i'm in no rush would be cool to just cruise a long and have a bit of fun, riding through parks, on the canal, those random paths through woods or the bumpy paths behind the flats
